Of the total ten, five wallpapers sport a darker, more colorful shade, making them ideal for the gorgeous SuperAMOLED display on the Note 9. Samsung will soon launch a 512 GB microSD card

As some manufacturers get rid of the headphone jack and microSD card slot, Samsung continues to include both of them in its smartphone lineup, particularly its flagship devices. To the delight of many users who prefer function over form, Samsung didn’t change its strategy for the recently launched Galaxy Note 9.

In fact, even though the latest Note smartphone comes with twice the internal storage of its predecessor, it still retained the microSD slot. Most phones with a memory slot often tout support for cards up to 2 TB, but this theoretical limit doesn’t mean anything when there aren’t a lot of high-capacity microSD cards in the market. Samsung will soon be joining the list of a few companies that have launched 512GB microSD cards.

512GB Samsung microSD card coming soon

During Samsung’s Unpacked event yesterday, Drew Blackard, Senior Director of Product Marketing, mentioning in passing that Samsung would soon launch a 512 GB microSD card. When paired with the 512 GB internal storage of the topmost Galaxy Note 9 variant, you will get 1 TB of storage in your pocket. You can hear him talk about it during Samsung’s Unpacked event yesterday here.

Currently, a 256 GB microSD card is the most you can affordably get for your smartphones. There are only a few companies that have 512GB microSDs card on the market right now. SanDisk is selling one, so are PNY and Integral. The cards cost over $300 and that’s likely going to be the price point for Samsung’s upcoming 512GB microSD card as well.

How to download Fortnite for Android on your Samsung Galaxy device

The Galaxy Note 9’s launch event saw the appearance of Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, the company that made the massively popular multiplayer game Fortnite. Sweeney announced the release of the Android version of Fortnite onstage as an exclusive for Samsung devices. The game isn’t just exclusive to the Note 9, unlike what the rumors and leaks had suggested, but is also available for the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy Note 8, and the Galaxy Tab S3.

Fortnite for Android will be exclusive to Samsung’s devices till this weekend before opening up to other Android devices. The game’s still in beta and the graphics settings are limited for all of the aforementioned Galaxy devices, but you can otherwise jump in and start playing. Don’t be fooled by all the fakes that have already started showing up on the internet, though. You can only download Fortnite from Samsung’s app store at the moment for it to work.

If you have been wondering how you can do that on your Galaxy phone or tablet, we have a step-by-step guide to help you on your way. Remember that only the devices mentioned above are supported, so the instructions below aren’t of any use for other devices.

How to download, install and play Fortnite on a Samsung Galaxy device

Step 1: On your phone or tablet, open the Galaxy Apps app from the Samsung folder in the app drawer. If you can’t find the app, just enter ‘Galaxy Apps’ in the search field at the top of the app drawer.

Step 2: You should see a banner ad for Fortnite as soon as you open Galaxy Apps. Click on the banner, then tap the Install and Open button to download the Fortnite Installer app. That’s right, the Fortnite app in the Galaxy Apps store is just the installer, and it’s inside this app where you will download the full game.

Alternative: If you can’t see the banner, just click this link on your phone or tablet to directly go to the Fortnite page in Galaxy Apps and press the Install button. If this link doesn’t work, then the game may not be available in your country just yet.

Step 3: Once the app is installed, it should open automatically. If not, just tap the Open button in Galaxy Apps to start the Fortnite Installer. You can also open the Fortnite Installer app from the app drawer.

Step 4: The Fortnite Installer app will immediately start downloading the actual Fortnite game, but you will first have to give it permission to access your device’s storage. To do so, just follow the prompts on screen and press the Allow button when presented with the option.

Once Fortnite is installed, you can tap the Launch button inside the Fortnite Installer app to start the game. You can also start the game by tapping its icon in the app drawer. The Fortnite Installer app can be uninstalled as it is no longer required, although it might be a good idea to keep it installed as it may be needed for game updates later on.

Galaxy Note 9 now available for pre-order in India

Samsung announced the much-awaited Galaxy Note 9 at a special event in New York yesterday. Starting at $999 for the base variant, the latest Galaxy flagship is already available for pre-order in many markets around the world. Samsung India has also joined the list and started taking pre-orders for the new Note smartphone.

The Galaxy Note 9 in India is priced at INR 67,900 (~$987) for the base 6 GB/128 GB variant. The beefier 8 GB/512 GB version will set you back by INR 84,900 (~$1234), which is still cheaper than even the base model of the iPhone X in India. It is available in Midnight Black, Ocean Blue, and Metallic Copper (limited to 128 GB variant) color options in the country. As of now, you can pre-order the Galaxy Note 9 only on Samsung’s website in India, but Flipkart, Amazon, and Paytm Mall should join the list soon.

Comes with many launch offers

Samsung has come up with many launch offers to sweeten the deal for Note customers. Pre-order customers can get a Gear Sport, which usually costs INR 22,990 (~$333), for just INR 4,999 (~$72). HDFC bank customers can get INR 6,000 (~$87) cashback by paying with their credit cards. Under the Samsung Upgrade Program, the company is also bumping up the exchange value of select smartphones by an additional INR 6,000. Buying the Note 9 through Paytm Mall will fetch you INR 6,000 cashback as well.

All these offers make the Galaxy Note 9 more competitively priced than what the list price suggests. Despite the increase in internal storage, the Galaxy Note 9 is priced similar to the Galaxy Note 8 in India at launch. By manufacturing its phones locally, Samsung has been able to price its devices aggressively, compared to Apple at least, in the Indian market.
