Galaxy Note 10 power key can be customized like the Bixby key

The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ do not come with a dedicated Bixby key. Samsung has gone back to its traditional ways and only put volume and power buttons on its new flagships, and Bixby can now be fired up by holding down the power button. Naturally, some of you will be disappointed to see the Bixby button go after Samsung made it possible to remap it to launch other apps, but it turns out the company kept that in mind while designing the Galaxy Note 10 and has added the option to customize the power key.

Double press action can be mapped to any app

As you can see in the screenshot below, you can specify what app you want to launch with a double press of the power key, so it’s no longer just a shortcut for the camera as it is on existing Galaxy phones. And while the power button is assigned to launching Bixby Voice with a long press by default, you can turn this off and use the power button for accessing the power menu. If you do keep it assigned to Bixby Voice, the power menu will be accessible from the notification shade, as we’ve seen on other Galaxy smartphones that support Bixby Voice without a dedicated Bixby key.

Galaxy Note 10 power key customization

And those other Galaxy devices should receive the option to customize the power key as well when Android Q comes along, or so we hope. Android Q will introduce version 2.0 of One UI, and while we can expect some Note 10 — which runs One UI 1.5 — to come to existing Galaxy phones with minor updates (especially camera features), Samsung is likely to keep the rest for the Android Q update.

Are you happy that Samsung removed the Bixby key from the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ and added customization to the power key? Do you think the Bixby key should have stayed since it can be remapped to other apps? Let us know in the comments below!

Verizon and AT&T drop the Galaxy A10e installment plan cost down to $0

The Galaxy Note 10 may have stolen the spotlight this week, but that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about the other devices Samsung has to offer. Hot on the heels of the Note 10 announcement, the Galaxy A10e offered by Verizon and AT&T in the United States has become more affordable.

Both carriers have now dropped the monthly installment fee for the Galaxy A10e from $7/$7.49 down to $0. Normally the phone would set you back around $170-$180 by the end of the 24-month period, but now you can virtually get it for free. You will need a new line to take advantage of the offer. Otherwise, you can buy the phone without a monthly installment plan for $179 and $209 from Verizon and AT&T, respectively.

The Galaxy A10e was launched by AT&T about a month ago. More recently it landed on Verizon’s shelves for a similar full retail price, and also launched through Boost Mobile. The A10e is a toned-down version of the Galaxy A10, having a smaller display, an 8-megapixel main camera instead of a 12MP unit, and a 3,000mAh battery that’s smaller by 400mAh. The phone comes with 32GB of storage which can be expanded by up to 512GB via microSD.

Check out the source links below for more details.

Galaxy A70s shows up on Geekbench with Snapdragon 675, 6GB RAM

The Galaxy A70s has popped up on Geekbench today in what is its first benchmark sighting, showing that it will share some of the Galaxy A70’s specs. The device, carrying model number SM-A707F, is powered by the Snapdragon 675 SoC and has 6GB of RAM. As expected, it’s running Android 9 Pie, and it will probably have One UI 1.1 instead of version 1.5 that is found on the newly announced Galaxy Note 10.

As far as the specs are concerned, those are the only details known at this point. The Galaxy A70 also has the Snapdragon 675 and 6GB of RAM on the base variant, so it remains to be seen what kind of upgrades the A70s will bring. The A70s was rumored to be the first Samsung device with the company’s new 64MP camera sensor, but another rumor denied that possibility later on, saying that the 64MP sensor will first be seen on phones from Oppo and Xiaomi and would only come to Samsung’s A series next year.

However, considering the Galaxy A10s’ spec sheet includes a camera upgrade over the regular Galaxy A10, we can expect the Galaxy A70s to offer something similar. Perhaps the 32MP rear camera will be updated to the 48MP sensor that is featured on the Galaxy A80? It’s hard to say, and it’s also hard to see what else Samsung could do to improve the Galaxy A70, which already has some excellent features, like a big and beautiful AMOLED display and a 4,500 mAh battery with super fast charging.

Galaxy Note 10 hands-on videos show off the latest features

Samsung just launched a handful of Galaxy Note 10 videos to promote the new phablet series using the hands-on format. They touch on the flagship’s refined design, the redesigned S Pen, the camera capabilities and built-in video editor, as well as integration with DeX, Link to Windows, and PlayGalaxy Link.

The Galaxy Note series underwent quite a few changes this year, in terms of both features and design. The flagship is now slimmer with narrower bezels. It has a frame made of stainless steel, a centered front-facing camera notch, and an offset, vertically-aligned rear-facing camera.

The S Pen was also redesigned and boasts new features, including Air actions which can be used to remotely control apps such as YouTube and Camera. And the camera itself has been updated, particularly for the Galaxy Note 10+ model which features a ToF sensor in addition to the standard triple-camera setup. The cameras can also apply bokeh effects to video now.

A fairly powerful built-in video editor has been included too. And for even better productivity, the Galaxy Note 10 benefits from DeX integration and Link to Windows. Both of these features allow users to connect their phones to their Windows 10 PCs and link both platforms for a more unified user experience. This allows for file transfers between devices, and for users to read and reply to messages directly from their computers.

Finally, Samsung also touched on the gaming side of things, and not only by pre-loading the Galaxy Note 10 series with Call of Duty: Mobile. As seen in the video below, the new flagship can take advantage of PlayGalaxy Link to stream a PC game directly to your phone over a Wi-Fi network (similar to the Steam Link app for Android and iOS).

Check out all of these videos and feel free to let us know which one of these features you like the most.

Galaxy Note 10 has dedicated second speaker on top, not an IR blaster

The small hole next to the SIM slot on the top of the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ is a dedicated second loudspeaker, not an IR blaster. When renders of Samsung’s new flagships had first leaked online, many had assumed that extra hole could be an IR blaster as it was not something we’d seen on any Galaxy device ever since Samsung decided to stop adding an IR blaster to its smartphones. However, that’s not the case.

That dedicated speaker should result in better stereo sound (especially with Dolby Atmos enabled) on the Note 10 and Note 10+, along with higher volume levels as we saw on the Galaxy Fold, which also has two dedicated loudspeakers instead of having the earpiece double up as the second speaker. Unfortunately, we were unable to test the Note 10’s audio quality at Samsung’s Unpacked launch because of all the hubbub, but we will be fixing that as soon as we get our hands on a review unit.

And yes, there is an earpiece on the Galaxy Note 10 duo, although it’s extremely hard to spot because of the small bezel. Samsung is also bundling new and improved USB Type-C AKG earphones with active noise cancellation in the box, but it’s not offering a Type-C to 3.5mm dongle in every market, which is sure to disappoint many. The company also has given some dubious reasons for why the headphone jack was removed, instead of admitting that it just wants to push consumers towards buying the Galaxy Buds.

Here are some Galaxy Note 10 wallpapers!

It’s not even been a day since the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ went official (we’re still yawning after all that late-night coverage) and some wallpapers from the devices are already available for download thanks to Max J. from AllAboutSamsung, who was able to grab the images off a Galaxy Note 10 demo unit. In addition to six wallpapers for the device itself, there are four wallpapers that you will see when you fire up DeX mode on a Note 10 or Note 10+.

Like the wallpapers that come loaded on the Galaxy Tab S6, the Note 10 wallpapers show iridescent soap-like bubbles based on all the color options the Note 10 and Note 10+ will be sold in. One of them is a dark shade that should look beautiful on an AMOLED display. The six regular wallpapers have a resolution of 3040×3040 pixels and fit perfectly on the Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy Note 9 – they should also look great on any other Galaxy smartphone. The DeX wallpapers aren’t as sharp, but that’s okay since those aren’t really much different from the regular wallpapers.

Check out all the wallpapers below. Since we’ve had to downsize the wallpapers to make this page load quickly, you’ll have to download the full quality wallpapers as a ZIP package at this link and then extract them on your phone using My Files app or any other file manager app.

Galaxy Note 10/10+ now available for pre-order in India

Now that the official announcement is done, Samsung is wasting no time in making the Galaxy Note 10/10+ available in as many markets as possible. After kickstarting pre-orders in the US and many other key markets, the company is now doing the same in India as well. Indian customers can now pre-order the Galaxy Note 10/10+ on Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm Mall, Samsung Online Store, Tata Cliq, and select offline retailers across the country.

The regular Note 10 is priced at Rs. 69,990 (~$990) for the 8GB/256GB version and comes in Aura Black, Aura Glow, and Aura White color options. The Note 10+, meanwhile, is priced at Rs. 79,990 (~$1,130) for the 12GB/256GB variant and has the same color options as the smaller model. The company has not yet revealed any pricing or availability information for the Galaxy Note 10+ 12GB/512GB version.

In comparison, the Galaxy Note 9 was launched in India for Rs. 67,990, which means even the entry-level Note 10 is priced higher than the launch price of its predecessor in the subcontinent. Moreover, given the significant improvements the Plus variant offers over the regular Note 10, most customers will probably opt for the larger model which costs considerably more than the Note 9 at launch.

The Galaxy Note 10/10+ will go on sale in India on August 23 and customers can pre-order them starting today. Pre-booking offers include Rs. 6,000 cashback on HDFC credit cards and Galaxy Watch Active at a discounted price of Rs. 9,999. If you are planning to pre-book the Note 10, don’t forget to check our coverage of the same to know what the latest Galaxy flagships bring to the table.

Hey Samsung, where is the Galaxy Home?

Samsung has just concluded the Galaxy Note 10 Unpacked event in New York. The event was without any surprises as all the devices shown today have been leaked extensively before their announcement. Some updates about the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Home would have been nice, but the company decided to keep them off the event.

It has been more than a year since Samsung first spoke about the Galaxy Home – its Bixby-powered smart speaker. Technically, this is not the company’s first smart speaker as its subsidiary Harman has released a few speakers with Alexa and Google Assistant integration in the past. However, the Galaxy Home is the first Bixby-powered speaker in the market and the first smart speaker with Samsung branding.

The Galaxy Home was supposed to launch earlier this year, but that didn’t happen due to various reasons. The device is certainly not abandoned as we can confirm the company is actively developing software for it and for the Galaxy Home Mini as well. IFA 2019 is not far away, and there is a chance that the Galaxy Home will make an appearance there if Samsung has plans to launch it this year. And at this point, that’s a big if, even though Samsung officials have suggested the Galaxy Home will launch in the third quarter of the year.

Samsung’s Bixby AI platform was late to the market and continues to lag behind rivals despite all the improvements. The platform can get better only if more customers use it, and that is possible only when there are compelling reasons to use the service. This is a chicken and egg problem with no easy way out. While the Galaxy Home may not be able to solve this on its own, it will at least increase the chances if Samsung can integrate it meaningfully with its other devices.
