Here’s every first-party case and accessory for your Galaxy S21 flagship

Samsung has introduced a ton of accessories for the new Galaxy S21 flagship series. They’re mostly cases but the company has also released a new pair of earbuds, a wall charger at a lower price, new wireless chargers and, unbelievably enough, even an S Pen for the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The Galaxy S21 lineup is now available for pre-order before it will hit the market on January 29 and if you’re looking to pair your new device with a fresh accessory, you’ll have plenty to choose from, especially if you’re on the lookout for a protective case. Here are all accessories that have been introduced by Samsung for the 2021 flagship lineup so far:

Galaxy S21 accessories

Samsung has developed a total of 9 case designs for the base Galaxy S21 model, most of which arrive in more than a single color option. In terms of pricing, the cases range from as low as $19.99 to $59.99. You can refer to each of the links below for additional details offered by Samsung’s online store:

  • Galaxy S21 Clear Cover$19.99: It’s a regular silicone clear case that offers protections against bumps and scratches. It’s a clear case so it lets the original color shine through.
  • Galaxy S21 Silicone Cover$29.99: Similar to the Clear Cover, the silicone case offers protection for the back panel but it comes in four color options.
  • Galaxy S21 Clear Standing Cover$34.99: The Clear Standing Cover is nearly identical to the regular Clear Cover except it has a Samsung-branded kickstand.
  • Galaxy S21 Clear Protective Cover$39.99: The Clear Protective Cover has a clear back panel but features a thicker silicone bumper available in black or white.
  • Galaxy S21 Rugged Protective Cover$39.99: This case has an industrial design with a kickstand and ridges running across the back. It’s available in black or white.
  • Galaxy S21 Leather Cover$49.99: One of the few cases to cross the $39 mark, the Leather Cover is available in black or brown.
  • Galaxy S21 S-View Cover$49.99: The S-View Cover wraps around the back and front of the Galaxy S21 and has a preview window for notifications. It’s available in four color options.
  • Galaxy S21 LED Back Cover$49.99: The Galaxy S21 LED Back Cover arrives in two color options and has an LED array on the back that offers notifications and more information at a glance.
  • Galaxy S21 LED Wallet Cover$59.99: This is the priciest Galaxy S21 first-party case, featuring a flip cover for the display with LED lights and four color options.

Galaxy S21+ accessories

The Galaxy S21+ offers a range of 10 optional fist-party cases. Save for one case, they are similar to the Galaxy S21 accessories except they’re tailor-fit for the larger model, so there’s no need to describe them in greater detail but you can refer to the online store links below:

The 10th case that’s unique to the Galaxy S21+ is the Kvadrat Cover available in violet or gray. It’s made by Kvadrat from recycled PET bottles and the material is 100% compostable.

Galaxy S21 Ultra accessories

Samsung has developed eight conventional cases for the Galaxy S21 Ultra and two unique cases featuring an incorporated S Pen. As many of you know by now, the Galaxy S21 Ultra offers S Pen compatibility, and the accessory can be purchased on its own or bundled with a special case. Here’s the complete list of Galaxy S21 Ultra accessories:

The company is also selling a couple of new S Pen-enabled covers and the S Pen separately. The only thing missing is the optional S Pen Pro that’s scheduled to go on sale later this year.

Accessories for the entire Galaxy S21 flagship family

Samsung is also selling a handful of accessories that are compatible with all three Galaxy S21 flagship devices, including a wall charger, two wireless charging solutions and more.

  • Galaxy SmartTag – $29.99: The Galaxy SmartTag is a new location tracker by Samsung, equipped with a single button, Bluetooth LE, and an internal battery. It works with SmartThings Find and it can double as a remote for IoT devices.
  • 25W Travel Adapter – $19.99: Samsung has removed the wall charger from the retail box of its new flagship series but the company is now selling the 25W Travel Adapter for just $20 and you get to choose between black or white.
  • Wireless Charger Single Pad – $39.99: If you’re ready to give up on wires and buy a wireless charger instead, Samsung’s Single Pad solution is available in two color options and ships by February 12 in the USA.
  • Wireless Charger Duo Pad – $59.99: The Wireless Charger Duo Pad is also available in black or white but it can charge two devices, such as a smartphone and a smartwatch or a pair of earbuds, simultaneously.
  • Galaxy Buds Pro – $200 / $150 with trade-in: The Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds are a Galaxy S21 accessory as much as they are a stand-alone product. Unveiled at Unpacked 2021, the Galaxy Buds Pro are a great match for the new trio of flagship smartphones. The earbuds are available in Phantom Black, Phantom Violet, and Phantom White.

Galaxy S21 Object Eraser vs Photoshop: Does Samsung’s AI hold its own?

We just couldn’t help ourselves. So, here comes your first direct comparison of the Object Eraser feature launching with the Galaxy S21 series later this month and the Content-Aware Fill tool from Adobe Photoshop. The real Photoshop.

Not that we expected Samsung’s Object Eraser to be able to take on the latest desktop-grade Photoshop build immediately from version 1.0. Or v0.5, to be frank, seeing how we used a Galaxy S21 Ultra review unit running pre-release software. It’s just that experimenting with Object Eraser actually emboldened us to do some side-by-side edits. If only to see how far away Samsung currently is from the golden standard in AI-powered pixel removal.

Can the Galaxy S21 keep up with the ultimate photo manipulation AI?

And while there’s no doubt that Object Eraser is a much more limited tool compared to the full power of the Adobe Sensei AI platform, it actually held its own against Content-Aware Fill quite remarkably. Naturally, we were only trying to compare their ability to perform minor raster graphics edits. Not even Photoshop is meant to tackle much more as of right now.

Overall, dare we say Object Eraser did more than well to keep up with an industry-leading photo manipulation AI. Especially given its high degree of autonomy: it only asks for help with making a selection, then proceeds to do its pixel disappearing act all on its own.

As is to be expected from professional image manipulation software, Content-Aware Fill offers much more granular control and can potentially deliver way more impressive results. Assuming you’re willing and able to lend it some of your gray matter, that is.

In order for this comparison to be even remotely fair, we decided to restrict ourselves to a single pass of Content-Aware Fill per image. After all, that’s precisely how big of a shot we gave to Object Eraser, and it stands to reason that one’s success rate with this type of tech largely depends on their ability to make accurate selections. We also refrained from manually adjusting Photoshop’s source pixels for much the same reasons, seeing how Object Eraser doesn’t take such input.

To that end, Samsung’s AI editor was mostly able to keep up with Photoshop in terms of understanding our selections. Its only major shortcoming was its ability to blend colors, as best demonstrated by the duck disappearing act above.

Granted, that’s a pretty important area to lag behind in. And it’s not like color science hasn’t already been solved in the field of machine learning by everyone from Google to FaceApp. So, Samsung hopefully won’t take long to get Object Eraser up to speed in that regard.

Introduced as the photobomber’s worst enemy just yesterday, Object Eraser will hit the market as part of Samsung’s Image Editor accessible from the stock Gallery app on January 29th. It’s not going to stay exclusive to the Galaxy S21 range for long, however.

Samsung hence already confirmed its plans to bring Object Eraser to as many of its devices as hardware (read: neural-processing potential) allows over the next year or so. As for when to expect the start of that wider deployment, the Photo Editor update containing this AI tool will either only target devices running One UI 3.0, or be bundled with Samsung’s Android 11-based firmware.

Another update rolls out to improve Galaxy S20 FE touchscreen stability

Samsung is now rolling out the fourth firmware update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G that presumably improves touchscreen stability. The package carries firmware version G81BXXU1BUA5 and weighs around 263MB with the January 2021 security patch included.

And yes, according to Samsung’s official change log history, this is the fourth update to include touchscreen stability improvements, though at this point we’re unsure if this is just information that was copy-pasted from a previous changelog by mistake, or if the new firmware really is meant to improve the touchscreen.

The Galaxy S20 FE is one of the best smartphones that were released by Samsung last year but a number of users have been unlucky enough to receive units whose touchscreens behave erratically in certain situations. This problem doesn’t seem to be affecting too many users — and even our review unit remains unaffected — but it is something that Samsung appears to have acknowledged as a problem for a few months now.

The G81BXXU1BUA5 firmware update is presently rolling out for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in dozens of countries across Europe. You can download the update by opening Settings on your phone and selecting the Download and install option inside the Software update menu. As always, you can also download the firmware from our archives and install it on your phone manually.

The Galaxy S21 design is the one thing saving the unboxing experience

Samsung has released a handful of unboxing videos featuring its latest flagship series, the Galaxy S21, and although the new device trio has offered fans plenty of reasons to be excited for the near future, the unboxing experience isn’t one of them.

Samsung’s new flagships are being shipped to customers in smaller retail boxes than usual for the simple fact that the standard wall charger and the pair of AKG-branded wired earbuds are no longer included for free. Apparently this is a result of Samsung’s efforts to reduce e-waste, but unsurprisingly, this change also makes for a duller unboxing experience than ever before.

Aside from the smartphone itself, there’s nothing else to look forward to when unwrapping the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, or Galaxy S21 Ultra. You get the phone, a SIM card removal tool, and a USB-C cable so you can at least transfer data from a computer and recharge the device as long as you have a spare wall charger lying around or a powered USB port at hand.

Thankfully, the Galaxy S21 series looks gorgeous and this simple fact might make up for the lack of content and accessories inside the box, at least as far as the unboxing experience is concerned.

Galaxy S21 U.S. trade-in offers are amazing (if you own an S20)

On a scale from “bad value” to “free flagship upgrade”, the Galaxy S21 trade-in offers in the U.S. are… bordering on the latter, amazing. Well, if you own a Galaxy S20, that is. Regardless, the fact that Americans can get $700 in credit toward an $800 Galaxy S21 5G in exchange for a device that could not have cost them more than $1,000 isn’t something you see often.

Not to mention that every other person able to trade in their Galaxy S20 for a $100 Galaxy S21 upgrade probably didn’t pay the full retail price for their current smartphone, in the first place. Reading between the lines, don’t expect the Galaxy S20 range to linger in stores for as long as a typical premium device generation does.

Will we ever see a better year for Samsung trade-in deals?

Of course, the ultimate upgrade offers only apply to devices in impeccable condition. But even trade-in candidates with cracked screens can net you up to $550 from Samsung. And Samsung is offering *the worst* value stateside.

What’s more, T-Mobile has a potentially even better deal that can either net you an extra Galaxy S21 5G for free in a typical BOGO scheme – or allow you a free upgrade from way more than just Samsung’s latest flagships.

Even devices as old as the iPhone X, Galaxy S9, and the Galaxy Note 9 can hence be traded in with T-Mobile toward a free Galaxy S21 upgrade, or $800 off the price of another model from Samsung’s newest flagship line.

At the same time, AT&T is willing to accept Samsung flagships up to the Galaxy S10e in perfect condition in order to upgrade you for free (or last year’s Pixel, iPhone, LG, ASUS, or OnePlus flagships). And Verizon’s offers aren’t too shabby, either; see for yourself:

Samsung just beat Apple’s smartphone design with the Galaxy S21

Samsung has mastered the skill of pumping out beautiful flagship devices so much so that we hardly get surprised anymore. Most new flagships are a gorgeous slab of metal and glass with incredible fit and finish. Every once in a while, though, the company does something that makes us sit up and take notice.

Like last year, Samsung has once again opted to launch three models for its Galaxy S lineup – the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra to be precise. Samsung had made some bold design changes to their predecessors. It did away with some signature design elements to show that it would now be going in another direction.

Samsung drove this point home with the Galaxy Note 20 series. It carried the same new design principles that Samsung had chosen for its flagships. This meant that, among other things, we’d probably never see a return of the center-aligned camera housings on its smartphones. What nobody knew then was that Samsung was merely laying the foundation of an exceptional design element that it would introduce in the future.

Enter the Galaxy S21 series. The luxurious feeling that it gives off is unlike anything we’ve experienced on a Samsung flagship. The Contour Cut camera housing is what catches the eye instantly. Samsung has replaced glass with metal for the camera housing and it feels very premium to the touch.

That’s not even the best part. The way this housing seamlessly blends into the metal frame is nothing short of extraordinary. It feels like an extension of the frame itself, an elegant one at that. It’s one thing to take a major leap in the design department, it’s another to execute it to perfection. The impeccable finish with the curved and polished edges speaks volumes about Samsung’s industrial design capabilities.

While this is a common element across the entire lineup, the Galaxy S21 is a bit of an outlier. It has a plastic back instead of glass but don’t let that fool you. The material that Samsung is using doesn’t make it feel like cheap or tacky plastic. Any doubts that we may have had about the feel were easily put to bed by the Galaxy Note 20’s plastic back. It’s a similar story here.

The Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra are your familiar slabs of metal and glass. They get the best in class durability with Gorilla Glass Victus on both the front and back. Both feel exceptionally premium to the touch.

We like the matte finish as it goes very well with the new colors, particularly the Phantom Silver and Phantom Black colors for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Phantom Black is actually the blackest black color Samsung has made. The company has made an entire video explaining why its new black color is so amazing. Do check it out because you’ve probably never seen someone getting borderline poetic about a color.

One can’t help but wonder whether someone from Apple designed this device. Its iPhones have always felt a bit more polished and refined than other smartphones. Now that might be an odd thing for you to read on a Samsung fansite but it’s difficult to deny that Apple is good at product design.

What the Galaxy S21 lineup proves, rather, is that Samsung knows design and is very capable of beating Apple at it. It made me think of the time when I experienced the Galaxy S6 for the first time. That device was a complete overhaul of Samsung’s design strategy. It showed the world that Samsung could do premium design and that it could do that very well indeed. The Galaxy S21 is a similar revelation, one that makes me very excited for the future.

Many of you will be aware that I’ve sworn by foldables ever since the Galaxy Fold was released. I couldn’t even think of giving up the Galaxy Z Fold 2 as my daily driver. However, I’m so in awe of the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s design and feel that I’m going to use it as my main phone this year, at least until we get the Galaxy Z Fold 3!

Galaxy Buds Pro India pricing revealed in pre-booking deals

The Galaxy Buds Pro might not have been the headliner of yesterday’s Unpacked showcase, but the best wireless earbuds Samsung ever made are nothing to scoff at. And given how much effort Samsung India committed to localizing the event, it’s no wonder that it’s going to participate in the gadget’s worldwide release. That would be January 29th, the same day on which the Galaxy S21 series is scheduled to hit the stores across the planet.

In the meantime, the first pre-booking offers are now live, allowing us to confirm the Galaxy Buds Pro pricing details for India. The premium in-ear headphones will set you back Rs 15,990 ($220) if you place an early order with Samsung – online or otherwise.

The company’s retail partners across India are also accepting pre-reservations as of today. The regular price will be Rs 17,990, or just under $250. EMI financing is on the table, as well, starting at Rs 752.70 ($10) – even on debit cards. As an added incentive, all Galaxy Buds Pro pre-orders in India come with a coupon that slashes the price of Samsung’s 10,000mAh Wireless Powerbank from the equivalent of $50 to $7.

Are the Galaxy Buds Pro worth it?

The price tag attached to the Galaxy Buds Pro is by no means cheap, but keep in mind that the device is meant to be a higher-end alternative to Samsung’s existing earbuds instead of an outright successor. And nothing underlines that better than the sizable price cuts to the Galaxy Buds+ and Buds Live made several weeks back.

Assuming you’re part of the audiophile crowd this device is clearly targeting, we’re happy to report that a $100 difference goes quite a way in the Galaxy Buds family. And Samsung’s pricing is hardly arbitrary, as it’s clearly looking to take on the AirPods Pro, which are typically sold at the equivalent of $340 (Rs. 24,900) in India.
