Samsung’s Lifestyle TV lineup to come with eco-friendly packaging

Samsung has announced that all of its Lifestyle TV lineup models now come with eco-friendly packaging in efforts to reduce the environmental footprint. The Frame, The Serif, and The Sero TVs come with eco-friendly packaging that’s made from corrugated cardboard.

The eco-friendly packaging allows easier recycling and upcycling of the cardboard boxes for creative reuse. Samsung has used dot matrix design on each side of the cardboard boxes, which makes it easier for customers to cut boxes more efficiently and turn them into cat houses, magazine racks, remote control stands, and set-top box shelves.

Samsung includes small manuals comprising of QR codes, which can be scanned using smartphones to reveal step-by-step information to turn cardboard packaging into useful household items. Earlier this year, the South Korean firm had received the CES 2020 Innovation Award for its new, eco-friendly packaging and promoting the efficient use of resources.

The company is also collaborating with Deezen, a British lifestyle magazine, to encourage other firms and individuals to submit their eco-friendly packaging designs. The global design competition will start on April 6, and the two companies will award the most unique and practical designs. Winning designs will also be used by Samsung for its packaging.

Kangwook Chun, the company’s Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business, said, “Consumers are more likely to purchase from a brand that shares similar fundamentals and values as they do, and with our eco-packaging, we believe that we can provide our customers with a new experience that considers the environment as an important way to express themselves.

Galaxy A51 5G receives Wi-Fi certification, gets one step closer to the launch

The Galaxy A51 5G is now one step closer to the launch. The upcoming smartphone recently received the necessary certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance. The phone is expected to be launched in South Korea and a few other countries where 5G networks are available.

As per the information available in supporting documents on Wi-Fi Alliance’s website, the Galaxy A51 5G (SM-A516N) features dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac and Wi-Fi Direct connectivity. The phone also seems to run the Android 10 operating system, which means that it will come with One UI 2.0 (or later).

Galaxy A51 5G specifications

Although the Galaxy A51 5G looks quite similar to the LTE variant of the Galaxy A51, there are a few changes to the build and design. The 5G variant of the phone uses a metal frame and has a different pattern on the rear panel. It has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution. The phone will feature 4GB/6GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128GB UFS 2.1 storage, and a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy A51 5G uses the 8nm Exynos 980 chipset, which debuted with the Vivo X30 and was recently used in the Vivo S6 5G. The processing chipset features two Cortex-A77 CPU cores (2.2GHz), six Cortex-A55 CPU cores (1.8GHz), Mali-G76 MP5 GPU, and a fully-integrated Shannon 5G modem. The chipset features sub-6GHz 5G support with SA and NSA compatibility.

The quad-camera setup (48MP primary + 12MP ultrawide + 5MP macro + 5MP depth) used in the Galaxy A51 is expected to be a part of the Galaxy A51 5G as well. At the front, the phone could come with a 32MP selfie camera and an under-display optical fingerprint reader.

Expected connectivity features include GPS, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port, and a headphone jack. The Galaxy A51 5G will come equipped with a 4000mAh battery with 15W fast charging.

Galaxy XCover FieldPro now available in the US via AT&T

Samsung had unveiled the Galaxy XCover FieldPro, a rugged smartphone for people who work in the field, in October 2019. The device was only available to government agencies, though, but it is now available in the US on AT&T’s network.

The Galaxy XCover FieldPro can be purchased through AT&T for $1,104.99. Interested customers can also get it via an installment plan of $36.84 (30 months). The carrier will begin shipping the smartphone between April 13 and April 15, and there’s also an option to pick up the phone via one of AT&T’s stores.

Galaxy XCover FieldPro is made with durability and reliability in mind

Samsung’s latest rugged smartphone features a 5.1-inch screen with QHD resolution. It runs a two-year-old version of Android (v8.0), but the company plans to upgrade it to Android 10. The smartphone is equipped with the Exynos 9810 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB UFS storage, and a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy XCover FieldPro features an 8MP selfie camera (F.17) at the front and a 12MP rear-facing camera with dual-aperture (F1.5-F2.4), 4K video recording, and triple-LED flash. The phone has GPS, LTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, a USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone comes powered by a removable, 4500mAh battery, and there’s an additional 4500mAh battery in the box.

As the phone was made with durability and reliability in mind, it passes MIL-STD-810G and IP68 tests for resistance against dust, shock, extreme temperatures, and water. There’s a dedicated Push-to-Talk button, which is pretty useful for first responders and law enforcement officials.

There’s a capacitive fingerprint reader on the rear for user authentication. Thanks to Samsung’s Knox security suite, the phone is compliant with CJIS, HIPAA, and FIPS, and can safely be used by the federal government in the US. Security features such as Samsung Pass and Secure Folder also come pre-installed on the phone.
