Live images of the Galaxy Tab Advanced2 and Advanced2 XL surface online

Samsung is working on a couple of new tablets in addition to the flagship Galaxy Tab S4 that’s due in a couple of months. We’ve been following these tablets through the development process over the past couple of months and have already seen the relevant certifications being acquired. This suggests that the launch of these new tablets may not be that far off.

The live images of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Advanced2 and Advanced2 XL have now surfaced online as well. This is the first time that pictures of the tablets themselves have emerged from regulatory sources.

Galaxy Tab Advanced2 and Advanced2 XL

It was reported back in May this year that Samsung’s cheaper 10-inch tablet may be called the Galaxy Tab Advanced2. Bearing model number SM-T583, it’s essentially a revamped iteration of the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 which was launched in June 2016. The new tablet doesn’t really bring any design changes, though.

The first obvious change revealed by the image is that the tablet no longer has hardware navigation buttons as all of them will be on-screen. The device has also moved to a USB Type-C port. Its specs are said to include a Full HD 1920×1200 pixel resolution display, Samsung’s Exynos 7870 chip with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

As the name suggests, the Galaxy Tab Advanced2 XL will have more to offer. It has slightly slimmer bezels and does away with the physical navigation buttons as well. Its specs may include Android 8.1 Oreo, a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 4.2, optional 4G LTE and more. No other details are available as yet so the processor, RAM and storage are as yet unknown.

Samsung hasn’t revealed as yet when it’s going to launch these new tablets. The Galaxy Tab S4 is expected at IFA 2018 in Berlin this September so perhaps these tablets may be launched alongside the new flagship as well. There’s also the possibility that Samsung may shorten the names of these tablets to the Galaxy Tab A2 and A2 XL at launch.

Latest Samsung Experience update lets you rotate home screen on the Galaxy S8

A feature that has only been available on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ so far has seemingly been ported to the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8 by Samsung. The company is rolling out a new update for its Samsung Experience launcher which will enable you to rotate home screen on Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8.

Now that the Samsung Experience launcher has this feature, users can enable a landscape mode in the Home screen settings menu. Once the feature is enabled it will rotate the home screen so that the launcher matches the orientation of the app being used.

Rotate home screen on Galaxy S8

As previously mentioned, this feature was only available on Samsung’s 2018 flagships only so far and will likely be present on the Galaxy Note 9 as well which is due to ship with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. It’s actually going to be Samsung’s first smartphone with Android 8.1 Oreo.

This option to rotate home screen on Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8 has appeared for some users only so far even if they have the latest version of Samsung Experience installed. It’s possible that Samsung is making this feature available in waves.

It’s also possible that the company is merely testing the waters with this feature so the option to rotate home screen on Galaxy S8 and the other devices may only appear for select users initially. If it’s indeed a test then it may be a while before Samsung decides whether or not it’s going to make this feature available to all users.

To check whether or not this feature is available on your handset once the latest Samsung Experience update has been installed, head over to the Settings app and open Home screen settings. There should be a Portrait mode only option there if the feature has gone live for you. Enable it if you want to rotate home screen to landscape mode on the devices mentioned above.

Samsung’s biggest factory will be inaugurated in India today

Samsung is set to inaugurate its biggest mobile factory in the world today. It’s going to be one of the largest mobile phone manufacturing units in the world in terms of production capacity, located at Sector 81 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will visit the site later today to officially inaugurate Samsung’s biggest mobile factory.

Samsung’s biggest factory

The Samsung unit was set up in Noida back in 1995 and it was used to initially produce television sets. The company started producing refrigerators at the plant in 2003 while mobile phone production started in 2007. The new facility is spread across an area of over 140,000 square meters.

India is one of the biggest smartphone markets for Samsung. It made $5 billion in mobile sales in India for the fiscal ending 2017 with revenues surging 27 percent. Samsung ended Q1 2018 with a 40 percent value market share and a 37 percent volume market share in India. All of the units that it sells in the country are manufactured at the Noida plant.

It was revealed last year that Samsung was looking to invest $620 million in India to double smartphone production. The plan was to expand the existing facility in Noida to double smartphone production from 67 million units to almost 120 million units per month. The expansion will also result in a twofold increase in the monthly production of refrigerators from 100,000 units to 200,000 units per month.

The bulk of the devices that Samsung produces in India are meant for sale in the country but reports suggest that the company may now also export smartphones made at the Noida facility to markets across Africa, West Asia and Europe.
