Galaxy S7 could tout a dual-camera setup

Over the past week or so there has been a sudden influx of reports and rumors related to the Galaxy S7, and it kind of does make sense because Samsung is done with the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+, the rumor mill can only focus on next year’s flagship handsets now and that’s precisely what it’s doing. It was reported recently that Samsung is the first OEM to conduct intensive testing on the Snapdragon 820 and it’s believed that the company will offer two variants of the Galaxy S7, one with the Qualcomm processor and the other with its own Exynos 8890 chipset. We exclusively confirmed some early details about the Galaxy S7 as well, including the fact that it’s referred to as Project Lucky internally since the number 7 is universally regarded as a lucky number.

A new report out of Korea claims that the Galaxy S7 could come with a dual-camera setup, this isn’t really a new concept because HTC tried to push a dual-camera setup with the HTC One M8 but it didn’t really do wonders for sales of the company’s flagship device. Perhaps Samsung believes that it has cracked the proverbial code and can do a much better implementation of dual-camera technology on the Galaxy S7. It’s also claimed in the report that the Galaxy S7 is going to have a 5.7-inch display, a big bump up from the 5.1-inch display on the existing flagship, the possibility has been reiterated by a previous report as well.

Do bear in mind that it’s still very early days and nothing can be said for sure at this point in time, take all of these rumors and reports with a grain of salt for now because we still have a long way to go before Samsung has to show off its new flagship handsets, which if this report is to be believed might happen a bit earlier than anticipated, around February 2016.

New Samsung smartphone with Snapdragon 620 spotted

It appears Samsung is working on a new handset that’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 620 processor, one can’t say for sure right now precisely what device this is, but rumor has it that it could be the Galaxy A9. A Samsung device with model number “Samsung msm8976fhdlte-eur-open” has been spotted in the Geekbench database which also reveals that it’s powered by the Snapdragon 620 processor with 3GB RAM and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

The Geekbench listing doesn’t have a proper name for this handset which is why it can’t be said for sure which product lineup it belongs to, however seeing as how the Galaxy A8 is powered by Snapdragon 615 with 2GB RAM, these specifications do make it seem possible that the device could be a successor to the Galaxy A8, ostensibly being called the Galaxy A9. This is pure speculation at this point in time and should be taken as such, however we’ll keep an eye out and update you regarding this mysterious device should any more information be leaked online.

Samsung’s Tizen-powered Z3 will launch in Europe

Samsung has big plans for Tizen, but the company’s currently focusing only on emerging markets in Asia for smartphones powered by its in-house OS. But this could change soon, as we have heard that the upcoming Samsung Z3 will be launching in Europe. The Z3 will be the first Tizen phone to make its way to the continent, with Germany, France, the UK, Russia and Poland apparently on the initial list of launch countries.

Samsung is hoping to see Tizen run on all kinds of hardware in the future, and in addition to smartphones, the company is also making a major push for the Internet of Things (IoT). The first Tizen phone, the Z1, was launched in India, Nepal and Bangladesh and became something of a bestseller, but it wasn’t exactly the best showcase for the operating system. The Z3 is looking like it will be considerably better in terms of hardware, though we will have to wait and see if it offers enough value to be able to make it big in the European market.

As a refresher, the Z3 should feature a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, a 1.3GHz quad-core Spreadtrum processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 2,600 mAh battery. It will run Tizen 3.0 out of the box, with the new version of the OS to bring features like 64-bit support and IoT integration.

Galaxy Note 5 rumored to be launching in Russia soon

Samsung has made it abundantly clear that the Galaxy Note 5 is only going to be launched in select markets and so far the handset has only hit shelves in very few markets, Europe is out of luck at least until 2016 even though some have even started a petition urging Samsung to launch the device. Rumor has it that the Galaxy Note 5 is going to be launched in Russia soon, apparently the handset is going to be launched there much earlier than originally anticipated.

It’s also claimed that the prices for the Galaxy Note 5 will start at 59990 RUB ($880) and that the handset is going to hit shelves very soon, this according to Eldar Murtazin. It merits mentioning here though that the possibility exists for the launch to not take place as soon as expected, we can’t see any firmware development yet which would indicate an upcoming launch like it did with the Galaxy Note 5 in India. The only thing the Russians can do at this point in time is keep their fingers crossed.

Samsung takes yet another swing at the iPhone in its latest TV ad

Samsung has a habit of taking swings at the iPhone in TV advertisements and even though it has been awhile since it released such a commercial the company put one on the air soon after Apple unveiled the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus earlier this week. The ad shows the iPhone 6 Plus for a couple of seconds and then focuses entirely on the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ while highlighting the fact that “it’s not a phone, it’s a Galaxy.” That tagline feels like a reply to “if it’s not an iPhone, it’s not an iPhone” which Apple has been using for quite some time now.

Apple didn’t talk about the battery capacity of the new iPhones during the announcement and both handsets still don’t offer wireless charging even though the feature is increasingly becoming common. Samsung thought it was best to remind people of this through the commercial, it promotes the fact that both Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ come with wireless charging built-in. Both new Samsung handsets are immediately available for purchase while the new iPhones will be released later this month.
