Samsung Galaxy Wearable app updated with One UI redesign

Samsung has pushed out an update with the One UI design language to the Galaxy Wearable app today. Version 2.2.23.19021251 of Galaxy Wearable is now available for download from Galaxy Store, bringing yet another proprietary Samsung app under the company’s modern new user interface.

The last update for Galaxy Wearable was released in February, and it gave away the names of Samsung’s 2019 wearables like the Galaxy Sport and Gear Fit ahead of their official launch. Galaxy Wearable has always been a pretty app, and with the One UI update, it looks even better thanks to the dark interface. The update doesn’t seem to include any new functionality and improvements; Samsung hasn’t added any changelog at all, not even mentioning the One UI redesign.

You can check out the new design in the screenshots below. The Galaxy Wearable app update can be downloaded from Galaxy Store (tap this link on your phone or tablet to go directly to the Galaxy Store listing), or you can grab the APK file from SamMobile and install it manually. The Play Store isn’t yet showing the new version of the app, but that shouldn’t be the case for long.

Samsung releases One Hand Operation Good Lock feature on Play Store

We reported yesterday that Good Lock 2019 with Android Pie support has finally arrived. Despite updating the customization app with Pie support, Samsung hasn’t removed the geographical restrictions. This means that Good Lock’s availability remains limited to select markets. It can be downloaded in supported markets from the Galaxy Store.

There’s a separate process that we have previously detailed for using Good Lock in an unsupported market. It’s a small inconvenience to bear in order to open up a world of customization on your Samsung device. However, it seems like Samsung might eventually make it easier to get Good Lock functionality on your device, regardless of your location.

One Hand Operation Good Lock feature is now a standalone app

Samsung has released One Hand Operation + as a standalone app on the Google Play Store. You can head over there right now and download it. One Hand Operation + is part of Good Lock but the standalone app works without requiring any other app when downloaded from the Play Store.

Once enabled it shows small gesture handles on the left and right edge of the screen. This allows users to easily control the device with one hand, a welcome feature on these large flagships. Users can customize actions to use when they swipe in different directions using the handles.

Swiping gestures can be assigned to each handle from within the app. They can be configured for Back, Home, Recent and Menu keys. Gestures can also be configured for functions like Screenshot, Task switcher, opening notification panel or quick panel, launching Assistance app and a lot more. There are plenty of customization options so you can really get it to work as per your preferences.

One Hand Operation + is a free download from the Google Play Store. The app is only going to run on Samsung devices, though. Hopefully, Samsung will release other Good Lock apps on the Play Store as well so that more users can access the features.

[Poll] Which Galaxy S10 did you end up buying?

The wait is finally over for those who were waiting for the Galaxy S10 to arrive. Samsung released the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ in 70 countries today. The lineup will roll out in dozens of additional markets in the coming weeks.

Many of those who pre-ordered a unit started receiving shipments yesterday and others are getting them today. Starting today you can also walk into a Samsung, carrier or retail partner’s store and walk out with a Galaxy S10.

So we’ve got to ask, which Galaxy S10 did you end up buying? Vote below and share with us the reasons for your decision. It seems many would have gone for the Galaxy S10+ as our earlier poll about pre-orders skewed overwhelmingly in favor of this model. I have gone for the Galaxy S10+ which my colleague Abhijeet said was almost a masterpiece in our Galaxy S10+ review.

Have any of you held off because you’d like to purchase the Galaxy S10 5G instead? Customers in the United States and South Korea do have this choice. Or are you among the few who are willing to spend $1,960 on the Galaxy Fold, Samsung’s first foldable smartphone? Sound off in the comments!

Exclusive: Samsung to offer a leather cover for the Galaxy Fold

The Galaxy Fold has a unique form factor which is why conventional cases and covers won’t work with it. The device folds like a book from the middle and has a flexible OLED panel on the inside. We haven’t seen any renders from accessory manufacturers which would suggest that direction they’re going to take with their products for this device.

Samsung would obviously sell accessories for its first foldable smartphone. We’ve discovered that among them will be a leather case. So if you decide to spend $1,980 on the company’s first foldable smartphone, you can spend a bit extra and have that luxurious leather feel.

Official Galaxy Fold leather case will be available in two colors

Accessory manufacturer Spigen recently shared some mockups of its cases for the Galaxy Fold. It remains to be seen which of those designs eventually get manufactured as consumer products. We won’t know until next month at the very least.

What we have discovered is that Samsung is going to offer a leather case for the Galaxy Fold. Customers will be able to choose between black and white colors for this cover. It should provide adequate protection for the back and may have a cutout to accommodate the external cover display.

Since official accessories tend to be a bit on the expensive side, expect this case to cost north of $50 as well. The final price has not yet emerged but we’ll be sure to update you when it does. The Galaxy Fold goes on sale April 26. It will be sold in select markets through a carefully controlled retail experience.

Don’t forget to check for an update when you set up your Galaxy S10

The day that we had all been waiting for is finally here. Samsung has released the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ in 70 countries across the globe. The company is looking to release the handset in dozens of additional countries by the end of this month.

Many pre-order customers have started receiving their units since yesterday and many more will get them today. So this is as good a time as any to remind you that you should check for a firmware update after you set up your brand new Samsung flagship. The company has rolled out a day-one update for it.

We have already received this update on our unlocked review units. Even carrier-locked units in the United States will get it today. Carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile have detailed what this firmware update brings.

You get security patches but that’s just the February 2019 security patch. The device isn’t being bumped up to the latest March patch just yet. The changelog also mentions improvements for the camera and the in-display fingerprint sensor. We found in our Galaxy S10+ review that it works really well but nobody ever said no to more improvement.

This won’t be a substantial update by any stretch of the imagination. So it won’t take you more than a few minutes after setting up your Galaxy S10 to install the update.

Some Galaxy S10 customers have received phones in unsealed boxes

Customers who pre-ordered a Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 or Galaxy S10+ have been receiving their units since yesterday. There have been some complaints from customers in the United States about their orders. Quite a few people have said that they received their units in unsealed boxes.

When they took their units out of the shipping box, they found that the seal had already been cut open. That’s unusual because the handset’s box normally has tape on either side that is uncut when the unit is shipped.

Unusual for devices to ship with unsealed boxes

These complaints have largely come in from customers in the United States. It doesn’t have anything to do with one particular carrier as well. Customers who bought them from different carriers have mentioned the same thing. Those who picked up unlocked units noticed some discrepancies with the tape as well.

The reason behind this is not entirely clear. Perhaps a missing manual or screen protector forced the unsealing of these devices once they had been sealed for shipping. None of the reports mention anything about the box’s contents missing so nothing has been stolen. One customer did mention that since the Galaxy S10 box didn’t have any seal stickers, all of the contents had spilled into the shipping box, but fortunately nothing had been damaged.

Some customers have reached out to their carriers with the complaints. The customer support staff has told then that the boxes should absolutely not have arrived unsealed. They have either been sent replacements or told to exchange their units at a carrier store starting today as the Galaxy S10 has now gone on sale.

Galaxy S10 goes on sale today in 70 countries around the world

Samsung’s latest flagships, the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10e and the Galaxy S10+, are now official in markets around the world. The newest Galaxy S smartphones are up for sale in about 70 countries. The devices are available to purchase from both online marketplaces, as well as brick and mortar stores starting today. Samsung is hoping to launch the phone in about 130 markets by the end of the month.

Galaxy S10 could tilt the mass in Samsung’s favor

The Galaxy S10 series raises the bar in a number of categories. The devices’ groundbreaking display and camera, as well as its ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, are expected to attract a huge crowd. Samsung is predicted to ship between 40 to 45 million units of the Galaxy S10 in 2019.

The lineup consists of three primary models – the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+. The entry-level flagship model has a flat Infinity-O display and a dual camera system at the back. It doesn’t get an in-display fingerprint sensor as well. There’s also a fourth model which will only be available in select markets. As we noted in our hands-on, the Galaxy S10+ 5G is an absolute beast.

Samsung is offering its latest Galaxy S flagship line in three models, all of which come in multiple storage configurations, including a 1TB Galaxy S10+. Naturally, the S10+ packs the most amount of features and power under the hood. Check out our review to find why the Galaxy S10+ is almost a masterpiece. Stay tuned for the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10e reviews.
