Galaxy Z Fold 3’s under-display camera could be a lot better than competitors

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be Samsung’s next big smartphone launch this year. The device is rumored to bring various improvements over its predecessor, including an under-display selfie camera that will make the foldable display devoid of any punch-hole cutout or notch. Now, more information regarding the under-display camera has been leaked.

According to Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the under-display selfie camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have 40% higher light transmittance when compared to under-display cameras on existing smartphones. It means that the camera can absorb more light, leading to relatively brighter images and videos with less noise. However, the part of the screen above the camera might display a mosaic pattern (as visible in the image below), especially when there’s white background.

Previous reports have claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will feature a 16MP under-display camera sensor (Sony IMXx71). It is expected that the image quality of the under-display camera wouldn’t be as good as the punch-hole selfie camera on the cover display. So, if users aren’t happy with the under-display camera’s quality, they can use the 10MP selfie camera on the cover display of the smartphone.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 expected specs

The smartphone is rumored to feature the Snapdragon 888 processor, 12GB/16GB RAM, and 256GB/512GB internal storage. It has a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O cover display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. The internal 7.5-inch foldable Super AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Both screens could have HDR10+ certification. The device is also rumored to be compatible with an S Pen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have an IP rating for dust and water resistance. It will have a 10MP selfie camera under the cover display and a 16MP selfie camera under the foldable display. At the rear, the smartphone could feature a triple-camera setup with a 12MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. All cameras should be capable of recording 4K 60fps videos.

The phone’s battery capacity was leaked earlier, and a 4,400mAh battery will power it. The phone is expected to feature AKG-tuned stereo speakers, GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, UWB, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The device will be launched with Android 11-based One UI 3.5 on board with enhancements to all the stock apps to behave better on both screens.

Samsung’s big discount for the Galaxy S21 FE price revealed

Samsung is due to launch the Galaxy S21 FE in the coming weeks. There have been quite a few leaks about the device already. Some renders were recently leaked online as well. A new report suggests that Samsung is going to provide a big discount on the Galaxy S21 FE price compared to its predecessor.

The company brought back its Fan Edition branding last year with the Galaxy S20 FE. It also confirmed that new Fan Edition models of each flagship will now be released every year. So it’s only a matter of time before the Galaxy S21 FE hits the market.

Galaxy S21 FE will be cheaper than its predecessor

Earlier reports have suggested that the Galaxy S21 FE features a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O Display. The display will have Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 888 processor will power the device with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The Galaxy S21 FE renders that were leaked online this week gave us a good look at the device’s design. It looks quite like the Galaxy S21+ but has a plastic camera housing instead of the gorgeous Contour Cut metal housing of the full-fledged flagship. The device does retain the metal frame.

Korean media is reporting that the Galaxy S21 FE is expected to be priced between 700,000 to 800,000 won ($620 – $720). The Galaxy S20 FE had a price tag of 899,900 ($810) won at launch last year. Samsung is thus expected to lower the new device’s price by up to $100.

That’s a significant reduction, particularly when you consider the near flagship level specs that this handset provides. Samsung has apparently decided to lower the price because it won’t have a new Galaxy Note on offer this year. So much of the heavy lifting will be done by the Galaxy S21 FE in the second half of this year. Customers who don’t want a new foldable smartphone would have the Galaxy S21 FE as a newer alternative.

Samsung hasn’t revealed as yet when it’s planning on launching the Galaxy S21 FE. The device is expected to come out within the next couple of months.

Samsung could launch Galaxy M21 Prime Edition in India

Samsung has a habit of launching the same phone with different names in different markets. For example, the Galaxy F62 is available as the Galaxy M62 in various markets worldwide. Sometimes, the company launches the same phone with a different name via its partner retailers, and the same could happen with the Galaxy M21.

It has been revealed that Samsung is working on a smartphone called Galaxy M21 Prime Edition for the Indian market. The device has model number SM-M215G and it could be launched exclusively via Amazon India’s website, similar to the Galaxy M31 Prime Edition. The smartphone has been certified by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) and it has been mentioned in the Google Play certified devices list. Samsung India has also published a support webpage for the device on its website.

Going by Samsung’s track record, there might not be any major difference between the design and specifications of the Galaxy M21 (SM-M215F) and the Galaxy M21 Prime Edition (SM-M215G). The Galaxy M21, which was launched one year ago, features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-U display with Full HD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It has a 20MP selfie camera with 1080p video recording capability and a 48MP+8MP+5MP triple rear-facing camera with 4K 30fps video recording.

The Galaxy M21 is equipped with the Exynos 9611 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, 4G LTE, GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Galaxy M21 is powered by a massive, 6,000mAh battery that can be fast-charged at 15W via a bundled Type-C fast charger.

Samsung’s Exynos 880 chipset ends up in another mid-range Vivo phone

Samsung’s Exynos processors are increasingly being used by other Android smartphone OEMs. Vivo has already launched multiple smartphones with Exynos 880, Exynos 980, and Exynos 1080 chipsets. Now, the Chinese firm has launched one more smartphone with the Exynos 880 processor in China.

The Vivo Y70t was launched in China a couple of days ago. The mid-range smartphone comes equipped with Samsung’s Exynos 880 processor. The 8nm chipset has two Cortex-A77 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, six Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 1.8GHz, and the Mali-G76 MP5 GPU. The processor is paired with 6GB/8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB/256GB UFS 2.1 internal storage. The smartphone runs Android 10 out of the box with Funtouch 10.5 OS.

It has an 8MP front-facing camera and a 48MP+2MP+2MP triple-camera setup at the rear. The 2MP cameras on the back are used for depth sensing and macro shots. The primary rear-facing camera can record 4K 30fps videos, while the front-facing camera is limited to 1080p video recording. Other features include 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, microUSB port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and fingerprint reader.

A 4,500mAh battery powers the Vivo Y70t, and it supports 18W fast charging. The phone comes with a starting price tag of CNY 1,499 (around $235).

System LSI, which designs Exynos chipsets, is trying to sell its processors to more Android OEMs. It was reported in the past that the company was in talks with OPPO and Xiaomi as well. However, those brands haven’t launched any Exynos-equipped smartphones yet. 2022 will be a big year for Samsung as it is bringing AMD GPU to multiple processors, including the Exynos 2200.
