Samsung Galaxy S8 leaks yet again, this time wrapped inside a protective case

Samsung doesn’t seem to be able to plug the leaks. Two upcoming high-end products from the company – Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Tab S3 – have been leaked multiple times over the course of past few weeks. The Galaxy S8 has now appeared once again, wrapped inside a protective case.

This new image of the Galaxy S8 exhibits the same design as we’ve been noticing in most of the previous leaks. There’s no physical button on the front. A selfie camera and an iris scanner are visible above the screen. A fingerprint sensor can be seen beside the rear-facing camera. An LED flash and a heart rate monitor can be seen on the other side of the main camera. However, take this image with a pinch of salt as it can be a very neatly photoshopped fake.

The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are expected to be announced on March 29 at an event in New York. Samsung unveiled the Exynos 8895 chipset yesterday, which is most probably be the one that will be used in the upcoming flagship smartphones.

More Galaxy Tab S3 photos leak, confirm keyboard dock and AKG audio presence

The Galaxy Tab S3, Samsung’s upcoming high-end tablet, was once a mystery that has been unraveling over the last few weeks: first specifications and pricing, the presence of the S Pen (a feature that matters for productivity), sweet-tasting Nougat and the now-deceased Galaxy Note 7′s Grace UX, the metal and glass build, and the Tab S3 keyboard dock. Now, TechnoBuffalo has gotten its hands on new images that confirm what we’ve seen but bring a new surprise element that will help you “hear the difference.”

The new photos showcase the Tab S3 and S Pen (both black and silver), the new silver model that will replace the former white variant, along with the keyboard dock confirmed earlier this week. What has yet to be confirmed that TechnoBuffalo adds, though, is the presence of AKG audio, as the words “tuned by AKG” come branded on the back of the silver model. You can find the leaked Tab S3 photos below.

For those who may not know, the reference to AKG refers to AKG Acoustics, a company acquired by Harman International in 1994. It is this Harman International that Samsung purchased back in November for $8 billion. Though Samsung hasn’t had the smoothest sailing with the acquisition, Harman shareholders finally approved it this week. It is this AKG audio that will appear in the Tab S3, showing that the Harman acquisition was no whimsical decision.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Tab S3 at MWC 2017 this coming week, so stay tuned as we prepare to embrace the next tablet in Samsung’s “Galaxy.”

Galaxy S8 fast wireless charger leaks, bearing model number EP-PG950

The Galaxy S8‘s imminent arrival, as indicated by the real-time photos that continue to come in (out in the wild and software key photos, among others), has consumers wondering about accessories to customize the look and feel of their handset and mobile experience. Samsung has been leading the way with wireless charging since the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge in 2015, and the company’s new fast wireless charging standard, implemented initially in the Galaxy Note  5 two years ago, made its way to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge last year. Now, we see the fast wireless charging pad/stand model number leak for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

Galaxy S8 wireless charger

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ model numbers are SM-G950 and SM-G955, respectively, and the S8′s fast wireless charger has a model number to match: EP-PG950 for the upcoming Qi wireless charger base. The current fast wireless charging stand has a model number of EP-NG930, with no “940″ because of Korean tetraphobia and cultural fear of the number “4.”

Quandt also gives the power capabilities, 5V-9V, which isn’t any different from the current Galaxy S7 wireless charging stand. What will be different is that, whereas the old wireless charging supported only micro-USB adapters, the new Galaxy S8 Qi wireless charging base will utilize USB Type-C.

That’s all we’re given for the new Qi wireless charging accessory or accessories (plural). Other accessories for the next Galaxy include official Samsung cases and we’re still waiting to see the external S Pen despite the constant echoes of the digital pen’s existence.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be announced on March 29th (pending Samsung’s statement at MWC 2017) and launch worldwide on April 21st.

Samsung Electronics next shareholder meeting to take place on March 24

Samsung Electronics, the crown jewel of the Samsung Group, is expected to conduct its next shareholder meeting on March 24 according to an industry source cited in a new report out of South Korea today. The source claims that Samsung’s board of directors will meet tomorrow to decide on the date and agenda for the company’s annual shareholder meeting.

The board of directors is reportedly going to come up with a response for shareholders over the arrest of the company’s vice chairman and the conglomerate’s heir Lee Jae-yong who was arrested on bribery charges last week and has been in jail ever since. He allegedly played a role in South Korea’s influence-peddling scandal and is said to have given bribes of more than $35 million to win favors from the government.

Shareholders will likely ask questions about the leadership vacuum as well as future strategic decisions that the company is going to take in the absence of its leader. The executives at the annual meeting will certainly have a lot to answer for.

Samsung to launch the Galaxy S8 in all markets on Friday, April 21

Samsung will reportedly commence sales of the Galaxy S8 and presumably the Galaxy S8 Plus in all markets on Friday, April 21, reveals ET News. It’s thought that the firm has decided against releasing the devices a week early — like it did with the Galaxy Note 7 — in its home country to ensure it has “stable supplies” for the rest of the regions it’ll be available in.

This information comes courtesy of a “high-ranking official for a mobile network provider” in South Korea, who added that if initial consumer response to the LG G6, which will launch worldwide on Friday, March 10, is positive, there’s a good chance that Samsung will open pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus earlier than expected, though no details on a specific reservation date were provided.

We have to say, this latest purported launch date seems entirely feasible. Back in December, a report surfaced claiming that the firm would release the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus on Tuesday, April 18 following an unveiling event that was expected to take place in New York City a week before – so it being pushed back to Friday, April 21 is realistic if the firm started to experience unexpected delays.

New Samsung patents consider flat and curved backs for future budget Galaxy S smartphones

Samsung is preparing to bring foldable smartphones to market: consider the sheer number of patents submitted by the Korean giant over the last few years, and it’s safe to say that foldable smartphones are more than just a leisure project for Samsung. At the same time, though, we’re aware of Samsung’s desire to bring curved displays to the forefront of its trademark design language. We’ve seen some patents recently including a Galaxy S7 edge front display with a flat, Galaxy S5 Neo-esque back cover - and the same design returns in yet another patent along with a new back cover design.

First, let’s get to the flat back design. The Galaxy S smartphone designs considered in the two design patents shown here show a device that has a curved display but a flat back panel. The flat back panel also contains a slightly bulging camera and a circular cutout beneath it that seems to turn the current flash/heart rate monitor area on Galaxy S and Note flagships sideways.

future Galaxy S curved design

The camera, though, is unmistakably taken from the Galaxy S5, and the speaker on the back can’t be mistaken as a design trademark for any other phone except the Galaxy S5 Neo or Galaxy Note 4. There are no physical buttons on the side of the device, which presents the possibility that the on-screen buttons of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will “trickle down” to the mid-range and low-end Galaxy S lineup.

The next design patent is merely a drawing, no “fill-in” of any tangible design language whatsoever, hinting that Samsung is considering the possibility but hasn’t settled on a definite concept just yet – though there is the possibility of a curved back cover here.

What these designs confirm for us is that Samsung may decide to bring curved displays to future budget-friendly Galaxy S devices so as to not leave budget-friendly remainder of its second most prestigious smartphone line untouched.

Take a look at the design drawing above (and more at the link) and let us know what you think.

Samsung expected to capture 72% share of the smartphone AMOLED market by 2020

According to the ’2017 OLED Display Annual Report’ published by UBI Research, Samsung will capture 72% share of the smartphone AMOLED panel market by the year 2020. The research firm expects the global smartphone AMOLED panel market to improve tremendously in 2017 and reach up to $57 billion by 2020, thanks to increasing demand from Apple (for its next iPhone, Apple Watch, and new MacBook Pros) and some Chinese smartphone brands.

Samsung Display started investing heavily in the mass production of flexible AMOLED panels for smartphones last year. Apart from LG Display, other AMOLED panel manufacturers from China and Japan have started planning to invest in mass producing smartphone AMOLED panels as well. However, Samsung is expected to capture a majority of the market, thanks to its technical superiority and higher investment compared to other brands.
