Android Pie will bring floating mode to Samsung Keyboard app

Android Pie will bring many new features to Samsung devices. One of those will be a floating mode for the Samsung Keyboard app. Yes, it’s a feature that Samsung phones already had a few years back. Many of these features were termed as gimmicks by the competition back then, but with popular keyboard apps like Google Keyboard (now called Gboard) recently adding the floating mode ‘gimmick’, it seems Samsung is ready to bring it back as well.

Samsung Keyboard getting new features with Pie

The floating mode option was discovered in the leaked Galaxy S9 Pie firmware by the folks over at XDA Developers. Floating mode should be a nice addition for two-handed typing on today’s big-screen phones, as it can be inconvenient at times to bring one’s fingers down to the bottom of the display. It’s a feature Samsung could release with just an app update on Google Play, but the company is likely holding it back to pad the list of features Android Pie will bring. Samsung’s Oreo update also introduced a few new keyboard features, including high-contrast themes, new emojis and stickers, and a customizable toolbar.

The Pie update will also bring user interface changes, many of which haven’t been received kindly by our readers. But there’s hope that Samsung will make everything right through beta testing. A Galaxy S9 Android Pie beta program can start any day now, so it’s only a matter of time before we can test out the keyboard’s floating mode and other new features.
