Times change: Samsung Gear smartwatch boots Macintosh II OS, no problem!

The Apple Macintosh (yeah, that’s what those machines were called back then) in 1984 may have been the true personal computing game changer for Apple, but a not-so-popular Macintosh II too was announced just 3 years after the initial iteration.

Times have changed (pun intended) and smartwatches are now running the operating systems that once made personal computing possible. The Samsung Gear is a mean machine, albeit one that fits on the strap of your wrist; the device has enough in it to run the OS used by the Macintosh II!

See it in action for yourself:

Of course, the hardware has changed tremendously, and the Gear doesn’t run the software natively… instead, it uses an emulator – Mini vMac II ($1.99). If you’re wondering why someone would want to do something like this, you’re thinking along the wrong lines. Think why not.

Samsung Gulf: “Galaxy Note 8 won’t get Lollipop”

In a development that might not please a lot of Galaxy Note 8 users (especially those from the Middle East) it has been apparently learnt that the Note 8 would not be getting a Lollipop update. The news comes not in the form of an update or a press release, but instead in the form of a response to a user’s comment on Samsung Gulf’s Facebook.

“…unfortunately the device you have mentioned (i.e., Galaxy Note 8) won’t get the Lollipop update. Have a great day” is what Samsung Gulf chose to respond with, when asked when the Note 8 would get the update. I’m not yet certain if the part about the poster having a great day was a genuine wish or sarcasm!

Please note this doesn’t mean that the device won’t get Lollipop in other regions. Samsung Denmark made it clear in an update some time back that updates can vary from market to market, and it is possible that Lollipop for the Note 8 does get through for a certain regions.

This is how the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 could look like

Earlier today, we reported that Samsung accidentally confirmed the existence of the Galaxy Tab S2 through an app update changelog. Now, OnLeaks has leaked the image of the device in one of his tweets, and this is how the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 could look like.

Going by the first look, the Galaxy Tab S2 appears to be rocking a metal frame, and its design is strikingly similar to that of the recently released Galaxy Tab A. There’s a physical home button, which might double up as a fingerprint sensor, along with the capacitive multitasking and back buttons. Apart from that, there’s a front-facing camera and an ambient light sensor on the front of the device. There’s a power button on the right hand side of the device along with a volume rocker, a microphone, a SIM card slot, and a microSD card slot.

As we reported earlier, the device looks to be equipped with a 4:3 display. The device is expected to feature a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box, the latest 64-bit Exynos processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, 8-megapixel primary camera, 2.1-megapixel secondary camera, and Cat. 6 LTE connectivity. The device is expected to be announced in June, and will come in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular variants.

Samsung confirms Android Lollipop update for Galaxy Note II in Morocco, Denmark and Portugal

There has been quite a confusion as to whether the Galaxy Note II will receive Android Lollipop update. As it turns out, Samsung is testing out Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Galaxy Note II, but it will only be released if no issues arise during the development. Samsung Gulf revealed to a customer that the Note II will not receive the update, while Samsung Spain said that it might receive the update. Even Samsung Poland confirmed that the device will get the update a few months ago.

Now, Samsung Morocco, Samsung Denmark, and Samsung Portugal have answered to Facebook queries about the update with positive responses. Apparently, the development team is hard at work to provide the update as soon as possible. Samsung Portugal said that the exact date of the update isn’t known yet, while Samsung Morocco stated that the update is being finalized. Samsung Denmark stated that the Galaxy Note II (GT-N7100) will indeed get the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update.

Now, it’s great to see that Samsung is even trying to update a device that is more than two years old to the latest major version of Android, which is different from Samsung in the past.

Thanks for the tip, Don Amged!

Traces of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note smartphone found in the HTML5 test

Looks like Samsung is testing and fine-tuning the web browsing experience on its upcoming high-end smartphone. The information has been revealed through the HTML5 test database, which shows the existence of a new device from Samsung named ‘ZenZero’, which is running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with new Samsung Browser. It is running Samsung Browser v3.2, which means that it is a device newer than the Galaxy S6 with browser v3.0.

It could be a Project Zen prototype, which we revealed to be a replacement for the Galaxy Note Edge. It is expected to feature a 5.4-inch/5.5-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display, an S Pen, a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 16GB storage, a 16-megapixel primary camera with OIS, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

You should take this listing with a pinch of salt as the device identification through a web browser can easily be faked, but we don’t think that someone went this far to fake the existence of a device whose name has not be finalised yet.

We’ve exclusively revealed a lot of information about Samsung’s upcoming high-end tablet, the Galaxy Tab S2, multiple times in the past couple of months. Now, Samsung has accidentally confirmed the existence of the Galaxy Tab S2.

The confirmation comes through the official changelog of the Hancom Office Hshow 2014 app, which is used to open Microsoft Office files and PDFs. It ships with Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones and tablets out-of-the-box. The changelog claims that the newest version of the app now supports the Galaxy Tab S2 along with the Galaxy Tab A, thereby confirming the existence of the yet unreleased Galaxy Tab S2.

As per our previous reports, the Galaxy Tab S2 will come in two screen size variants – the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7.
