Deal knocks off $50 from price tag of the new Galaxy Tab S2 8.0

It hasn’t been long since Samsung updated its Tab S line of premium tablets but if you haven’t picked one up yet because you thought that the price was a bit too high then rejoice, there’s now a deal available on one of the new models which knocks off $50 from the price tag of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0. It’s the 32GB 8-inch version of this tablet that’s been discounted by $50 on eBay where it can now be purchased for $350.

Don’t think that you’ll have to settle with a refurbished unit at this price, even though most deals on eBay do consist of refurbished units, this particular eBay deal will deliver a brand new unit of the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 sealed in its original box for $350, that’s $50 off the original retail price. This is the Wi-Fi only variant of the tablet with 32GB of onboard storage and a microSD card so you won’t really be pressed for more storage. Customers in the United States get free shipping, international shipping is available for a few countries if you don’t mind paying extra for it.

AT&T Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Android 5.1.1 update released

If you happen to own the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 on AT&T then you have a good reason to keep checking your notifications because the carrier has released the much awaited Android 5.1.1 update for this tablet. AT&T is rolling out the update right now but it could take a while before it’s available across all regions in the United States. Android 5.1.1 for AT&T Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 brings some improvements to the Quick Settings menu as well as security updates and performance improvements, it weighs 800MB so you would be better off downloading it on a strong Wi-Fi connection instead of over mobile data.

AT&T has only released the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 despite the fact that just yesterday Verizon also released the same update for this tablet as well as the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. So far there has been no indication of an impending update for the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 from AT&T so those who own this particular tablet can keep their fingers crossed.

Galaxy Note 5′s ‘Screen-off memo’ feature ported to Galaxy Note 3, Note 4 and Note Edge

Samsung fans have fell in love with the Galaxy Note 5‘s screen-off memo feature which makes the S-pen far more useful. You can take out your S-Pen and start typing directly on your screen without any steps in-between as the phone launches an app with a full black background. This is very energy efficient because Super AMOLED displays simply turn off individual black pixels so your Galaxy Note 5 only uses a little bit of power while enabling quicker access to a very productive function.

Since it has been such a popular feature the folks over at XDA have managed to port this application to other Note devices such as the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge. It also works on the recent Galaxy S6 or the S6 edge Plus but since these devices don’t have an S-Pen, there’s no way to turn the app on. The source link has all the information you need on the port, and you can head over to find out how you can start typing on your Note device without waking up the screen.

Disclaimer: The screen-off memo port requires a rooted device so if you don’t have one, we don’t recommend rooting your phone as it can void your warranty and have negative effects on your device, such as disabling software upgrades, the KNOX security suite, and features like Samsung Pay.

Samsung Pay’s first month brings in $30 million in accumulated transaction volume

About a month ago Samsung Pay was launched in South Korea, the service has seen great interest from locals and now the company has announced that Samsung Pay brought in $30 million in accumulated transaction volume after just one month since launch. Keep in mind the fact that till now Samsung Pay has only been live in South Korea, it’s scheduled to go live in the United States later this month.

The company points out that Samsung Pay’s biggest advantage is that it’s widely accepted among merchants in South Korea which is why it’s not surprising to see that over 1.5 million total transactions were made in just the first month. The service saw approximately 36% active users during this time with about 10% of them using Samsung Pay on a daily basis. Samsung Pay now allows users in South Korea to make online payments using a Samsung Card credit and debit card, enables payments that support integrated circuit reads and ATM cash withdrawals using a Woori bank account with loyalty card memberships and transportation services scheduled to arrive soon. With a global expansion on the cards for later this year Samsung Pay’s next market is the United States where it will go live on September 28.

Samsung working on a major update for the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note 5

Is Samsung working on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its 2015 flagships? We’re not sure if that’s the case, but we have learned that the Korean manufacturer is currently preparing a major update for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. We are working on getting more information from our sources, but at this point all we know is that the next update for the four devices will be bigger than the usual updates we see every now and then.

This new update might be Android 6.0 considering that is the only big thing on the horizon in the Android world, but it could also be focused at bringing more stability to Android 5.1.1. For the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, we could see more features from the Note 5 and S6 edge+ making a debut, in addition to the ones that Samsung has already backported to the 5.1-inch S6 duo. The firmware version for the S6 edge will change from G925FXXU2COH2 to G925FXXU3COI6, where the jump from U2 to U3 in the build number is a good indication that we will be seeing considerable user-facing changes.

Android Marshmallow is our best guess since all four flagships are included in the list, or an update with new features for each phone. We were also told that Marshmallow will be making it to the Galaxy Note 4, but it’s unclear as to when the oft-neglected device will get the upgrade. Since Marshmallow hasn’t even been officially released by Google yet, we will need to wait for more details to get a better picture of Samsung’s plans.

Meizu launches the Pro 5 with Exynos 7420 processor from Samsung

Chinese manufacturer Meizu has just officially unveiled its most advanced and most pricey handset to date, called the Meizu Pro 5 it features a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display and an Exynos 7420 processor from Samsung. It’s the very same processor that debuted with Samsung’s very own Galaxy S6 so it goes without saying that the Pro 5 packs a mean punch.

For all we know the processor may not be the only component provided by Samsung, the handset’s 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display also may or may not be from Samsung, though that bit hasn’t been confirmed yet. Samsung normally provides components to other OEMs for their devices so this is nothing new, though it does signal that the company is satisfied enough with yields of the Exynos 7420 processor that it’s providing them to Meizu aside from putting the same chip inside the Galaxy S6 models as well as the Galaxy Note 5.

Exclusive: Two Samsung Galaxy S7 models confirmed

Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ last month, and the company is now putting all its efforts on its next-generation Galaxy S series device, the Galaxy S7. It appears that the South Korean smartphone giant will continue to release two variants of its flagship smartphone for at least one more year. The SM-G930 and the SM-G935 are the variants of the Galaxy S7, the former with a flat display and the latter with a dual-edge curved display.

It is confirmed that the two variants will be heading to Canada, China, Europe, Korea, and the US. This isn’t a full list and the S7 will no doubt launch in all of Samsung’s existing markets, but at this point we don’t have more information on the matter.

Here are the carriers that are said to be currently on-board:

  1. Canada – Bell Mobility
  2. Korea – KT, LG Uplus, SKTelecom
  3. USA – AIO Wireless, AT&T, MetroPCS, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon

The Galaxy S7 is codenamed Project Lucky internally, but the company is referring to these devices as Hero and Hero2. It is expected to be released in two variants, one with an Exynos 8890 processor and the other with the Snapdragon 820 SoC. Qualcomm has already shipped a newer prototype of the Snapdragon 820 chipset to Samsung, and it appears that this new chipset has better performance than the previous prototype.

These devices will feature UFS 2.0 storage that is already being used in the Galaxy S6 and other recently released high-end smartphones from the company. Moreover, we have received information that Samsung might have found a way to make microSD card slots work in conjunction with UFS 2.0 storage, but you should take this information with a pinch of salt. In terms of imaging, the company is testing various prototypes, some with a dual camera setup and some with a 20-megapixel ISOCELL camera sensor.
