Telus rolls out update to fix the Galaxy S8′s ‘red tint’ display glitch

Canada’s second-largest carrier Telus has today started rolling out a much-requested update for its variant of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ to patch a rather frustrating bug that results in some users noticing a “reddish tint” on their handset’s display.

Aside from the inclusion of a couple of additional bug fixes, the upgrade appears to be identical to the release that started making the rounds in Europe and South Korea recently, transporting a couple of new settings for the Adaptive Display screen mode.

To see if the OTA is ready for your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ follow these steps: SettingsSoftware UpdateDownload Updates Manually. If it doesn’t show up, don’t panic. It just means that it hasn’t reached your device yet, so be sure to check back in around 24-hours.

AT&T offers $200 minimum trade-in for your old phone when you buy the Galaxy S8

Carriers are known for offering customers incentives that either entice them to stay with it or switch over from one of its rivals. AT&T has been offering a Buy One Get One promotion with the Galaxy S8 which enables customers to talk out with two Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ units essentially for the price of one.

AT&T is now sweetening the deal further by stacking its $200 minimum trade-in promotion. This means that customers will be able to get an additional $200 off if they decide to trade-in their old phone when buying the Galaxy S8.

The only caveat here is that the phone that the customer is going to trade-in has to meet the conditions laid out in AT&T’s Trade-In Program. This particular promotion ends on May 31. Customers will have to buy their new Galaxy S8 on AT&T’s Next installment plan.

Since this is a minimum $200 trade-in offer, as long as the handset is worth $20 or more according to AT&T, customers are guaranteed $200 in trade-in value. The credit that they receive can be more than $200 if the device is in better condition.

That credit can then be used to get a discount against the Galaxy S8 price. Customers can also choose to pay for their Galaxy S8 in full and use the credit on accessories. This promotion is also open to those who don’t want to take advantage of the BOGO offer and just need to buy one Galaxy S8.

Galaxy S8 price in South Korea hits extreme low due to illegal subsidies

Retailers and carriers often offer subsidies on some of the most popular devices on the market to bring in new customers. It’s not uncommon for them to offer discounts of up to a couple of hundred dollars. However, in South Korea’s cutthroat smartphone market, retailers push this to the limit.

The Galaxy S8 has a recommended retail price of 935,000 won ($825) in South Korea but it can be purchased for as low as 753,000 won ($665) after taking advantage of all legal subsidies and discounts.

However, many online and offline retailers have been offering illegal subsidies to customers in South Korea for more than a week. Subsidies worth more than 600,000 won are being provided and customers are able to pick up a Galaxy S8 for less than $180.

The Korea Communications Commission keeps an eye on the daily rate of new smartphone subscriptions in the country. It hovers around 24,000 units daily and if it sees an unexplained spike, the KCC launches an investigation. Just last week, it recorded 28,267 subscriptions on one day alone.

The KCC has temporarily halted the monitoring of new subscriptions and thus the retailers have gone crazy with the subsidies. It has now threatened to launch an investigation into the actions of those involved if the illegal subsidies continue to be offered.
