Samsung Keyboard needs to add one simple yet invaluable feature

Samsung Keyboard, like all of Samsung’s mobile apps, is packed with a variety of features. Swipe-to-type, one-handed mode, emojis, themes, predictive text, plenty of customization options for the keyboard’s layout, and more are all part of Samsung’s keyboard app for Galaxy phones and tablets. As someone who regularly switches between different Galaxy devices, I tend to use Samsung Keyboard a lot of the time.

I do that despite preferring Google’s Gboard, mainly because it’s a pain to switch keyboards every time I start using a new phone, and because my basic typing skills are quite good no matter which keyboard app I use. However, the absence of one simple yet invaluable feature on Samsung Keyboard frustrates me to no end, and that is the ability to call up a dedicated number pad manually when you want it.

Like all keyboard apps, Samsung Keyboard has a dedicated number pad that shows up when you tap input fields that only accept numbers, like when you’re entering your credit card details. But unlike other keyboard apps, Samsung Keyboard doesn’t have any option to manually access that dedicated number pad. And that can get frustrating. You can add a number row at the top of the keyboard, but nothing beats the convenience of the good old feature phone-style number pad.

In case you’re wondering, this is the number pad I’m talking about:

Again, it’s a simple feature, and it’s surprising that Samsung Keyboard doesn’t have one considering Samsung is well known for cramming all sorts of functionality into its apps and its phones and tablets. Of course, some will think this is a non-issue, and that’s fine. For me, though, not having manual access to a dedicated number pad is the only thing that’s missing from Samsung Keyboard, and I would love for Samsung to fix that. Maybe it could do that with the upcoming One UI 4.0 update? Time will tell.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 price might make it tough to resist

There’s no denying the fact that Samsung’s flagship foldable smartphones are expensive. $2,000 is a lot of money to spend on a smartphone, particularly one that will be outdated a year later. These devices need to become cheaper so that more people can join in on the fun.

That’s what Samsung is expected to do for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. A new report out of South Korea suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 price will be lower than its predecessor. Just how low, though, remains a mystery for now.

Cheaper foldable smartphones are the future

This isn’t the first time we’re hiring about a cut in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 price. We exclusively revealed earlier this month that a big price cut is on the cards for both the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. We also gave you an expect range of the price cut.

These new devices will be up to 20% cheaper than their predecessors. If it gets the maximum percentage cut, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 can very well be up to $400 cheaper than the $1,999 Galaxy Z Fold 2. That will certainly bring the new foldable within the reach of more customers. An impulse purchase of Samsung’s new foldable will suddenly be hard to resist.

Another fact that has been reiterated by Korean media is that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will retain the same 256GB base storage as its predecessor. It’s good to see that Samsung won’t skimp out on specs to make up for the price cut.

A 512GB model will be on offer as well for those who want extra internal storage. Samsung has historically offered exclusive color options to South Korean mobile operators. That’s reportedly not happening for the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

As for when the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be unveiled officially, we await a confirmation from Samsung. Word on the street is that the company may unveil the devices in early August.

New Samsung Gallery update has something for both phones and tablets

Samsung constantly updates its apps with new features. This week, the company has updated its Gallery app with new features that cover both phones and tablets. Well, there’s just one new feature for each, and it’s arguably the one for tablets that’s the bigger deal.

Anyone using a recent Galaxy tablet will now see a new interface thanks to what is called Drawer UI, which basically hides all of the additional options in the Gallery (such as Suggestions, Locations, and Trash) to the side in the traditional Android style, letting you access them by tapping the hamburger button or by swiping in from the left edge of the screen. This new interface works in both standard and DeX mode for tablets that support the latter, such as the newly announced Galaxy Tab S7 FE (a review for which we’re currently working on).

The other new feature added in the Gallery app with the latest update is full screen scrolling. This is only for phones and, when enabled, hides the status bar and the navigation buttons when you scroll through your photos and videos. Not something everyone will find useful, which is probably why full screen scrolling is turned off by default and has to be turned on from the Gallery app’s settings.

Finally, the update also adds “a tip card to guide users when downloading Samsung Cloud contents.” The new Gallery version is 12.1.07.5 and is rolling out through the Galaxy Store and through the Play Store, though it could be a few days before it shows up for everyone. As usual, you can either update the app through those stores or download the latest APK from our APK archive.

Is this when Samsung will finally unveil its custom AMD GPU?

Samsung confirmed in January this year that its “next flagship product” will feature the custom mobile GPU that it has been working on with AMD. We now know that it won’t be the Galaxy Note 21. Samsung has already announced that there won’t be a new Galaxy Note this year.

Many believed that it might be the Galaxy Z Fold 3 that introduces us to this new GPU. That’s looking unlikely as well. A new report claims that Samsung was set to reveal its custom AMD GPU in June. However, the company has decided to push the launch forward by one month.

Samsung could finally lift the curtain on its custom AMD GPU

Habitual leakster @UniverseIce is out with a new claim today. The Samsung AMD custom GPU was reportedly due to be unveiled in June. However, the launch has now been postponed to July, according to the leakster. It’s claimed that Samsung will reveal details about the performance of this AMD GPU on Exynos in addition to other details about the chips next month.

There’s no hard evidence to back up this claim so we’ll just have to take it at face value. It’s not too far-fetched, after all. We know that Samsung and AMD have been working on a GPU. Samsung has itself hinted that the launch will be tied to one of its upcoming flagship products. So it’s quite clear that it’s just a matter of time before this Samsung AMD custom GPU is unveiled.

AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su actually shed more light on the launch recently. Dr. Su confirmed that the next Samsung Exynos processor is going to feature this new GPU. A completely brand new Exynos chip may not be formally launched until the end of this year. The Galaxy S22 series will likely be the first mobile devices to get it.

This means that we may have to wait until early 2022 to get our hands on this GPU. Until then, some official details on the chip would be nice, even if it only tests our patience.
