Samsung successfully demonstrates world’s first Public Safety LTE network

A few months ago Samsung announced that the new Public Safety LTE solution it created last year will be deployed in Seoul by early 2016. Samsung has announced that it has successfully demonstrated the reliability and usability of its Public Safety LTE solution during rigorous testing in Pyeongchang, Korea. The PS-LTE network has been developed as an advanced means of communication for emergency situations. This test was part of the Korean government’s official verification process for the first phase of a PS-LTE network project.

During the test, Samsung’s deployed PS-LTE network was used by 20 departments from eight fields, including the military, government, police, fire, and medical services. All of them responded to simulated emergencies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure. Various PS-LTE communications were demonstrated, including instant messaging in emergency situations, voice/video Push-To-Talk (PTT) communication, video conferencing between field and command center as well as voice calling by multiple groups. The Korean government selected Samsung as the sole provider of PS-LTE end-to-end solutions. The government is now going to launch the network in four cities starting this month, and coverage will continue to be expanded until the PS-LTE network is available nationwide.

Samsung stock price reaches record high for the year

It was not long ago that Samsung’s stock price was taking a beating due to concerns about the company’s growth and profitability. Samsung has managed to turn things around and its recent quarterly earnings are a testament to that. Analysts are now positively bullish for the company’s earnings in the second quarter and that’s being reflected in greater investor confidence in the company’s shares. Samsung’s share price has hit a record high for the year, breaking the 1.33 million won ($1,156) ceiling in six months.

Given the rising value of its stock, Samsung now accounts for 15.17 percent of the aggregate market value of the entire Korea Composite Stock Price Index. The surge in price is attributed to the positive outlook that in the second quarter Samsung’s operating profits will reach 7 trillion won ($5.87 billion) owing to the stellar performance of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. Institutional investors are now filling up their portfolios with Samsung shares as they expect the company’s performance to improve in the coming months.
