Galaxy S6 edge+ Nougat update being tested by Samsung

Samsung announced the official release of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge last week. It also confirmed which handsets will receive the update in the first half of this year and the Galaxy S6 series is included in the list. We’ve previously spotted the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge running test laps with Nougat onboard and now the Galaxy S6 edge+ has been spotted as well.

The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge have both been spotted running Android 7.0 Nougat on GFXBench. The Galaxy S6 edge+ bearing model number SM-G928 has now been spotted on the benchmarking website with Nougat onboard. This shows that Nougat testing for this device hasn’t been delayed too much and that Samsung is working on preparing the update for the Galaxy S6 edge+.

However, if history is any indication, we can expect the Galaxy S6 edge+ to receive the Nougat update only after the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge have received it first. Samsung is yet to confirm precisely when that’s going to happen.

Galaxy Tab S3 specifications rumored

We have known for a few months now that Samsung is working on the Galaxy Tab S3. We reported two weeks ago when the LTE model of the Galaxy Tab S3 received its Wi-Fi certification, believed to be one of the final steps before a new product is deemed ready for release. There’s little information available about the Galaxy Tab S3 specifications at this point in time but someone on Chinese social media network Weibo is claiming to know what they are.

The person claims that the Galaxy Tab S3 is going to be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7420 processor with 4GB of RAM. It’s also claimed that the new tablet is going to use the faster UFS2.0 storage which would provide a nice speed bump to the tablet as well. Additional specs are said to include a fingerprint sensor – which won’t surprise anyone – and a USB Type-C port.

Samsung is expected to launch Wi-Fi only and LTE models of the Galaxy Tab S3. The company didn’t unveil this tablet at CES 2017 so that leaves MWC 2017 next month and since it has already confirmed that the Galaxy S8 won’t be announced at Mobile World Congress 2017, hopefully it will make the Galaxy Tab S3 official.

[Poll] Are you happy that Samsung is not giving up on the Note series?

After Samsung decided to end production of the Galaxy Note 7 late last year, there was speculation about the future of the company’s phablet series. Some claimed that Samsung would give up on the Galaxy Note series following the disaster it had to face with the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung did mention previously that it was unlikely that it would take such a step. Today the chief of its mobile business Dong-jin Koh officially confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 is going to be “better, safer and very innovative.”

So we have to ask, are you happy that Samsung has decided not to give up on the Galaxy Note series even though the Galaxy Note 7 has left a mark on the series that would be tough to wash off, at least for the immediate successor? Let us know by voting below and sharing your thoughts with us in the comments section.

Samsung confirms that there will be a successor to the Galaxy Note 7

Earlier today, Samsung held a conference in South Korea to reveal the reason for the Galaxy Note 7′s unfortunate demise. As you can imagine, prior to the event there was a lot of confusion surrounding whether there would be another iteration of the Galaxy Note, but the firm’s mobile chief D.J. Koh has revealed that there is in fact going to be a Galaxy Note 7 successor.

“I will bring back a better, safer and very innovative Note 8,” said Koh. It’s unclear how the entire debacle has affected the Galaxy Note range’s reputation, though, but we think with the right approach, all of the bad press will blow over pretty easily. There are still many Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 5 owners looking to upgrade, and if they’re pleased with the Galaxy Note 8, their golden reviews will encourage others to follow suit.

Samsung’s new Quantum Dot monitors earn various online awards

Samsung demonstrated its newest Quantum Dot monitors – CH711, CFG70, and CF791 – at CES 2017 earlier this month, and they’re claimed to offer excellent colors. As a result, they’ve received various online awards in various post-CES 2017 recaps.

The brilliant CH711 curved Quantum Dot monitor was listed under TechRadar’s list of top five monitors from CES 2017. Digital Trends used the CH711 as an example of the “serious attention” Samsung has paid to overall image quality in its monitors.

Paul Thurrott named the CF791 as his choice for the ‘Best Curved Display’ and the UH750 as his pick for ‘Best Display’. Consumer Electronics trade magazine TWICE named the CF791 as the winner in the “Accessories: Computer Peripherals” category.

The CFG70 was the winner of Dealerscope’s first-ever IMPACT! Awards in the gaming monitors category.

We look forward to participating in CES every year, as it brings together the brightest and most inspirational technological minds from around the world for several days of creativity and collaboration,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung trademarks ‘Bixby Vision’ for a feature built into its upcoming AI assistant

Last week, we exclusively revealed that Samsung’s long-rumored AI assistant Bixby will communicate with the front- and rear-facing cameras on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus to enable users to conduct a visual search — and now the company has filed a trademark for the moniker Bixby Vision in Europe, which will — presumably — be the name used to describe the feature when it makes its debut later this year.

If recent reports are anything to go by, it certainly looks like Bixby is destined to be an AI assistant that’s second-to-none. Not only will it be able to process payments, but it’ll also have the required permissions to control native applications on the handsets it’s pre-loaded on. By far the most impressive aspect of the platform is Samsung’s focus to integrate it with all forms of technology, including refrigerators and washing machines.
