Samsung partners with d’strict to create revolutionary content for LED signages

Samsung has announced that it has partnered with Korean design firm d’strict to design and display revolutionary art on its SMART LED signage displays. Such displays will be installed at global landmarks worldwide to highlight the unlimited potential of Samsung’s industry-leading QLED digital signages.

Samsung Electronics and d’strict will produce groundbreaking media art pieces to attract potential customers for the South Korean tech giant’s SMART signages. The companies will install such art at Times Square in New York City and Duomo Cathedral in Milan. Seoul-based design firm d’strict first gained attention after designing a giant 3D wave design, which appeared on Samsung’s SMART LED signage, the largest curved screen in South Korea. The design was displayed on the SMTown COEX building in Seoul’s Gangnam district.

Together, Samsung and d’strict will create never-seen-before visual experiences, including immersive content and groundbreaking digital media. The South Korean display firm already showcased the Milan Digital Fashion Week at its huge signage display installed at the Duomo Cathedral in Milan, Italy.

Hyesung Ha, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “This partnership will help bring to life many opportunities for Samsung SMART signage beyond simple information delivery and will help businesses consider the possibilities of using these displays as a media art platform. This partnership is aligned with our broader user experience ‘Screens Everywhere’ vision and will showcase enhanced content on the latest display technology.

Samsung reportedly bags order to make all Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chips

It was reported last month that Samsung lost Qualcomm’s 5nm chip orders to TSMC. However, it turns out, Samsung Foundry has managed to clinch the deal to manufacture all Snapdragon 875 chipsets. The company will use its 5nm EUV process to make Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship mobile processors.

According to a report from Hankyung, the size of the contract is said to be worth close to KRW 1 trillion (around $844 million). The report also says that it is the first time Samsung has won all orders for Qualcomm’s flagship processor model. The Snapdragon 875 is expected to be unveiled in December 2020 and could appear in smartphones in the first quarter of 2021.

Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship processor could be used in some variants of the Galaxy S21 series. It is also said to be used in high-end smartphones from OPPO and Xiaomi. Samsung could start the mass production of the Snapdragon 875 chipsets at its 5nm EUV foundry line in Hwaseong, a city in Gyeonggi Province in South Korea.

The reason for Qualcomm awarding the Snapdragon 875 contract to Samsung Foundry is said to be lower pricing when compared to TSMC. Industry insiders said that Samsung can produce chips similar to TSMC’s quality but at a lower price. The South Korean tech firm recently received orders from the likes of IBM, Intel, and Nvidia. It is also rumored that Samsung will make the Snapdragon 875G, Snapdragon 735G, and Snapdragon 400 series 5G chips.

Samsung is putting a lot of money into the R&D process for making chips using cutting edge technologies. It plans to become the world’s number one semiconductor firm by 2030, and it needs to defeat TSMC to reach that position. Currently, TSMC has the lion’s share in the contract chipmaking market, and Samsung is in a distant second position, but the gap is narrowing.

Value-oriented Galaxy Tab A7 (2020) coming soon to India

Samsung’s decisively value-oriented Galaxy Tab A7 (2020) is about to make India’s mid-range tablet market even more competitive. That’s according to a pair of device support pages that just went live on the official website of Samsung India. The premature listings indicate both the Wi-Fi and LTE variants – carrying model numbers SM-T500 and SM-T505, respectively – are on their way to the country.

Announced last week, the Galaxy Tab A7 (2020) is the latest addition to Samsung’s portfolio of Android tablets meant to punch above their weight. How high, exactly, remains to be seen, though one previous report indicated a sub-€300 (Rs. 26,000) starting point in Europe. Meanwhile, it’s still unclear whether the Galaxy Tab A7 (2020) will make its way to the United States.

They grow up so fast

Following several months’ worth of leaks, Samsung confirmed the new Galaxy Tab A7 range is quite unlike the old one from 2016. For starters, while its name remains unchanged, the amount of screen real estate on offer is significantly higher, sitting at 10.4 inches as opposed to mere 7. Between the Snapdragon 662, 3GB of RAM, and up to 64Gb of flash storage, the Galaxy Tab A7 (2020) promises to be quite a decent performer in its price range.

Overall, expect Samsung India to officially announce the Galaxy Tab A7 (2020) in a matter of days. Looking at the bigger picture, Samsung is still attempting to combine contemporary tablets with smartphones, as evidenced by the incoming arrival of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, its second-generation foldable flagship and third-ever device with a flexible display.

  • Model: SM-T500
  • Dimensions: Tablet: 157.4 x 247.6 x 7 mm

  • Dimensions: Tablet: 157.4 x 247.6 x 7 mm

Samsung explains foldable multitasking benefits in One UI 2.5

A Samsung official today explained how One UI 2.5 boosts the multitasking potential of its two newest foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold 2. Due to popular user demand, the company revisited some key elements of its custom Android implementation, including the Edge Panel, Multi-Active Window, and the Multi-Window Tray. While most of these changes and additions have already been mentioned as part of the full-fledged Galaxy Z Fold 2 unveiling from the beginning of the month, we now got to see how they’ll work in practice.

The new Apps Panel, for example, increases the number of user-selected app shortcuts from 10 to 22, all the while allowing you to customize its layout. Samsung also implemented the ability to open multiple files from a single app, and combined the Edge Panel with App Pair in order to deliver the first officially supported method of launching multiple apps at once in One UI. All of that should make the process of splitting your flagship’s screen significantly easier.

If you’re having difficulties keeping up with all of these buzzwords, you’re not the only one. The images below will hopefully help clear things up a bit because most of these novelties seem genuinely useful.

Samsung’s foldable experience is becoming more attractive by the day

This is yet another indication of Samsung planning to position its flexible smartphones as the new golden standard for mobile productivity. Well, minus the S Pen – at least for now.

With the exception of Android GO devices, the minor multitasking improvements such as App Panel shortcut limits will be available on non-foldable Galaxy devices, as well. Many of those previously updated to the newest stable OS build should be able to access the said functionalities already. Samsung also intends to support all Galaxy A-series devices released from the second half of 2019 onward, though some of those may have to wait until One UI 3.1 before they can join the powerhouse multitasking club, according to one of the company’s developers.

Speaking of ongoing software update efforts, One UI 2.5 most recently reached the Galaxy Tab S6, and while it’s still based on Android 10, it’s also the most refined smartphone experience from the company to date.
