Samsung launches its first P6 LED display in Madrid’s Plaza del Callao

Samsung has today revealed that it teamed up with Super 8, founders of City Lights, to complete the first commercial installation of its P6 display in Madrid’s Plaza del Callao in June. The panel itself measures in at 6 meters by 37 meters, and has been strategically positioned on the exterior of one of the plaza’s tallest buildings in the heart of the shopping and entertainment district to gain attention from an estimated 51,000 cars each day and 113 million people per year; making it the perfect platform for the South Korean company to promote its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

The P6 LED is Samsung’s highest-quality advertising panel to date. It features an enhanced resolution of 960 x 5760 pixels, which produces deeper contrast and a significantly wider viewing angle than the firm’s previous generation of super-sized displays. The P6 is the first monitor on the market of its size to feature a high-resolution Surface Mount Diode (SMD) board and cabinet structure. These work hand-in-hand to extend the signage’s lifespan and provide continuous performance for up to 100,000 hours (11 years). Integrated temperature control and ventilation management systems also reduce energy consumption.

It’s currently a mystery as to where Samsung will install its next P6 LED, but it’s nice to see the panel finally hit the streets. Over the course of the next few weeks, the manufacturer will review advertising applications from local businesses in Plaza del Callao. If approved, their captivating adverts will be displayed on the board, reaching hundreds of passersby at any given moment of the day.

Samsung Pay will finally be accepted in Shinsegae department stores

Despite first launching in South Korea back in August, Samsung has only just managed to reach an agreement with the region’s largest retail firm Shinsegae that’ll see its mobile payment platform, Samsung Pay, accepted in all of the company’s fifteen nationwide bricks-and-mortar stores. Unfortunately, a specific launch date remains unknown, but an official claims that representatives will be meeting next month to determine a suitable distribution schedule.

The Shinsegae Group also runs a handful of other extremely popular stores in the region, including US coffeehouse chain Starbucks, which would prove to be extremely profitable for Samsung Pay. However, it’s believed that in order to have its platform accepted in these additional third-party stores, Samsung will first have to introduce compatibility for SSG Pay, a mobile payment solution run by Shinsegae, both in its physical and online shops.

Verizon-bound Galaxy Note 7 surfaces on Geekbench

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 7 early next month and so far we’ve seen a lot of rumors and leaks concerning this flagship handset. Another version of this handset has been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database, it’s the Verizon-bound SM-N930V though it appears to be a test unit for the largest carrier in the United States.

The benchmark result shows that this SM-N930V is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor – the same processor that powers the Galaxy S7 - and is coupled with 4GB of RAM. However, we know from previous reports that the Galaxy Note 7 is going to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and Samsung’s Exynos 8893 processor in certain variants coupled with 6GB of RAM. The test unit could just be under testing on Verizon’s network so it doesn’t necessarily have the final specifications. Samsung is yet to announce when the Galaxy Note 7 is going to be unveiled but there’s some evidence to support the theory that it’s going to be announced on August 2nd.
