Samsung brings wireless charging to their latest displays

Samsung is working on a new screen which brings a very fancy design that also features a wireless charging pad on the base. This is the first of its kind and it could work out pretty well. The screen has many other perks aside from wireless charging.

IFA 2015 is going to kick-off on the 4th of September in Berlin, and Samsung is gearing up in order to make a big presence there. Now we’re looking at a Full-HD 24-inch display labeled S24E370DL, as well as a 27-inch panel, the S27E370DS. Both screens come with AMD’s anti-flicker gaming tech and a 178-degree viewing angle, making them ideal for games.

This monitor would be the first to feature wireless charging and it’s actually a very practical idea because a lot of people charge their phones on their desk. The tech company has been looking through various ways to charge your phone without using a wire and this monitor could just be the beginning. We’ll see how this develops and we can’t wait to see what they show us at IFA this year.

What about you? Do you find this design practical? Let us know by leaving a comment.

Global fabless firms are very important to Samsung’s 10nm ambitions

Samsung Electronics has announced a roadmap for the 10nm production process and detailed specific measures to support customers, with global fabless semiconductor companies being an important part of its 10nm ambitions. Samsung published the roadmap earlier this month through a local subsidiary in the US, it’s planning to start the manufacturing process which can be utilized in the design of networking chips, mobile devices and consumer electronics using third-generation FinFET transistors by late 2016.

The company’s semiconductor business did quite well last year particularly after forming partnerships with global semiconductor foundries by transferring its 14nm technology in order to secure customers like Apple and Qualcomm. Having stabilized its 14nm process Samsung is said to be producing the next-generation chips for Apple and Qualcomm this year and the company will certainly want this momentum to continue in the years to come. This is one of the reasons why global fabless foundries are important for Samsung’s 10nm ambitions to succeed but currently the outlook is unclear, with China’s largest fabless semiconductor company Spreadtrum Communications going with Intel for consignment productions and NVIDIA rumored to switch its semiconductor supplier to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. Samsung is reportedly going to counter that by altering its schedule to ensure that its customers don’t switch to TSMC.

Samsung eyes Southeast Asia for Tizen expansion

A report out of Korea claims that Samsung is going to increase its focus on Southeast Asia to breathe new life into its Tizen expansion plans, the company is reportedly going to target countries in Asia such as India which are less influenced by the likes of Google and Apple with Android and iOS. The company is targeting countries with low smartphone penetration rates by competing solely on the price point, a strategy which appears to be working so far.

Samsung is expected to launch the next Tizen smartphone, the Z3, during this year’s Tizen Developer Summit in Bangalore, India. The handset is initially going to be released in countries like India, Nepal and Bangladesh to curb iOS and Android dominance in these markets, particularly at the low-end of the spectrum. It’s expected to stick with the same strategy in neighboring countries which include Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. Analysts believe that Samsung is going to use these markets as a springboard to expand the Tizen ecosystem before it decides to further expand it to markets across Europe and North America.

Pictures of a Galaxy Note 5 prototype leaked online, is the S Pen debate settled then?

There is no shortage of leaks when it comes to new Samsung devices and the Galaxy Note 5 is getting the same treatment, we’ve already seen multiple leaked photos and renders of the upcoming handset. Today pictures of a Galaxy Note 5 prototype have been leaked online and while they don’t reveal much about the device that we don’t already know, they do offer a new perspective about the S Pen ejection mechanism that has been the subject of much debate these past few weeks.

It was first rumored that the Galaxy Note 5 is going to have an auto-eject S Pen and that made sense since Samsung has a patent on that technology, but later we heard that it’s actually going to rely on the push-to-release mechanism. If pictures of this prototype represent the truth then it appears that it’s going to be business as usual, a small curve in the frame which will let the user take out the S Pen using their finger or nail. That’s how it has always been so it won’t be a change that many had been keeping their fingers crossed for. Samsung is going to announce the Galaxy Note 5 on August 12 and release the device in select markets on August 21.

What do you think, is it going to be business as usual or is Samsung going to shake up things and give us a new way to extract the S Pen? Sound off in the comments section below.

Galaxy S6 edge+ rumored to feature 4GB of RAM

We have already reported exclusively that Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ on August 12 and release the handsets in selected markets across the globe on August 21. The latter was previously rumored to feature a Snapdragon 808 processor but as per latest information it’s going to have the same Exynos 7420 processor as the regular Galaxy S6 edge variant. However if a new rumor is to be believed the Galaxy S6 edge+ might tout 4GB RAM like the Galaxy Note 5.

If this is indeed the case then the Galaxy Note 5 certainly won’t be Samsung’s first smartphone to come with 4GB of RAM, it will have to share that crown with the Galaxy S6 edge+. The latest rumor also claims that this handset is going to come with a 3000mAh battery as well as the Exynos 7420 processor. No other changes have been rumored at this point in time, Samsung has not officially confirmed anything but we can’t expect it to say anything right now with the official launch merely weeks away.
