Samsung starts rolling out July 2021 security update to Galaxy A52 5G

Samsung had released the July 2021 security update to the Galaxy A52 earlier this week. Now, the company is expanding the rollout of the update to the 5G variant of the device in some parts of Europe. More markets could get access to the Galaxy A52 5G’s latest security update over the coming days.

The Galaxy A52 5G (SM-A526B) is currently getting the new update in the Baltic region, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, and Slovenia. The update, which has firmware version A526BXXS1AUG1, includes the July 2021 security patch. According to Samsung’s documentation, the July patch fixes more than 20 vulnerabilities. Don’t expect the update to bring any new features.

If you are a Galaxy A52 5G user in any of the regions mentioned above, expect the update to reach your device soon. You can also manually check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also choose to download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A52 5G earlier this year with Android 11-based One UI 3.1. The phone is currently on Samsung’s monthly security update schedule, and it is bound to receive three major Android OS updates in the future.

Galaxy Watch 4 vs Watch 4 Classic: Where the heck is the Active model?

There’s some confusion surrounding Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch series. We hear you. It stems mainly from Samsung’s decision to rename its upcoming wearables in a way that doesn’t make a lot of sense, and it left fans wondering what happened to the Active lineup.

First things first, Samsung is planning to release two smartwatch models later this year. Not three or four, but two, and each model will be offered in different sizes. These two models are called the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and the Galaxy Watch 4. One has a physical rotating bezel, and the other doesn’t.

The Galaxy Watch 4 is the spiritual sequel to the Watch Active 2

Although Samsung appears to have abandoned the Active moniker — at least for the time being — the company hasn’t given up on the idea of selling a smartwatch without a bezel. It’s just that it will no longer be called the Active, but rather the Galaxy Watch 4.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 3 sequel will have a physical rotating bezel and will be called the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, so it’s no wonder why some fans were left scratching their heads.

If all this seems confusing, just try to forget about the previous Galaxy Watch models and understand that the variant with a physical bezel will be called the Classic, while the bezel-less variant will drop the Active label altogether and will be called simply the Galaxy Watch 4. Given its streamlined design, it will technically be a spiritual sequel to the Active series, even if the name won’t reflect it.

Samsung is expected to unveil the new Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic in August.

Shocker: The Chinese Galaxy S21 Ultra knockoffs are terrible

All those copies of Samsung flagships floating around on eBay and Amazon don’t seem to be getting any better. Namely, they’re still designed to fool the most tech-inept among us but don’t seem to offer much in the way of… anything, really.

As per a new report from XDA, some of the still-peddled Galaxy S21 Ultra copies can be bought for as little as $100. Straight out of Hong Kong, with a fake, entirely useless and non-responsive Bixby screen to boot. The wallpapers and some of the app icons seem to be lifted straight from One UI, as well. Also, the phone kind of, sort of looks like the Galaxy S21 Ultra from the back. Assuming you’re five feet away, that is.

Who keeps buying these things for them to keep surfacing, year after year?

One look at the front, however, and the illusion falls apart fairly quickly. The knockoff in question – peddled as the Galaxy S21 Ultra, mind you – lacks a curved screen and features thick, unseemly bezels. Yet the exterior is top-notch compared to what’s actually inside; the MediaTek MT6782, 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM and a whopping 2GB of storage. Just enough to cache half of the latest Google Play Services update and crash the phone while trying to install it.

To say this thing is an outright scam even without accounting for the trademark infringement would be an understatement. Regardless, someone has to still be buying these things for them to keep surfacing, year after year. Just who do you think that is?

The Galaxy M51 is now receiving a new software update in Russia and Ukraine. The latest update, which bears firmware version M515FXXU3CUG1, includes the July 2021 security patch. Samsung mentioned on its website that the July 2021 patch includes fixes for more than 20 security and privacy-related vulnerabilities. Samsung tops global smartphone market in Q2 2021, but Xiaomi is getting dangerously close

Samsung topped the global smartphone market once again in the second quarter (April to June 2021) of this year, but the company needs to be careful as Xiaomi is getting dangerously close. Despite shipping more than 100 million iPhone 12 models since its release, Apple slipped to third place in the global rankings.

According to the latest numbers from market research firm Canalys, Samsung had a market share of 19% in the global smartphone market. It achieved 15% year-over-year growth, which means that the company’s overall smartphone business was better than last year. The sales of the Galaxy S21 series were better than the Galaxy S20 series. Plus, Samsung released a lot of Galaxy A and Galaxy M series of mid-range smartphones, which added to the company’s business.

Xiaomi achieved the highest growth (85% YoY) and captured a 17% share of the market, and it has set its sight on Samsung. The company is growing rapidly in Africa (150%), Latin America (300%), and Western Europe (50%). The company wants to replace the South Korean firm and become the world’s biggest smartphone brand. However, it won’t be that easy. Xiaomi’s average selling price is 40% lower than Samsung’s, which means that a majority of Xiaomi’s smartphone sales come from cheaper devices in the Redmi lineup.

Apple saw a meager 1% year-over-year growth in Q2 2021 and managed to capture a 14% share of the global smartphone market. However, it is expected to launch the iPhone 13 series in September, which could give it a major boost during Q4 2021. It means that Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3, will face intense competition from Apple during the last quarter of this year. An early launch of the Galaxy S21 FE could help Samsung, but the launch seems to have been delayed.

Other Chinese smartphone vendors OPPO and Vivo saw healthy growth during Q2 2021, and each of them is holding on to a 10% market share. OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi are growing in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Africa, and Samsung needs a strategy to fend them off.
