Galaxy Note 9 fingerprint sensor might take care of this customer pain point

Samsung is only just getting down to the business of selling the Galaxy Note 8 and already there are predictions about the handset’s successor. It’s believed that the Galaxy Note 9 fingerprint sensor is going to take care of a major customer pain point, one that irks many Galaxy S8 owners as well.

The company introduced its gorgeous Infinity Display with the Galaxy S8. It had to reposition the fingerprint sensor at the back because of that. Many customers feel that the placement could have been better even though a case can be made against it. Samsung has done the same thing on the Galaxy Note 8.

Galaxy Note 9 Fingerprint Sensor

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the Galaxy Note 9 fingerprint sensor will be integrated into the display. Kuo is best known for his predictions about Apple products but he does have a sound understanding of the Asian electronics supply chain.

The optical fingerprint sensor would enable users to unlock their device by placing their finger on part of the display. This functionality was rumored for the Galaxy Note 8 as well but Samsung decided against it.

It means that the handset will have an optical fingerprint sensor that was first rumored for the Galaxy S8. Samsung didn’t include it in the Galaxy S8 because the technology wasn’t quite ready.

He further adds that there are three companies that are trying to win the contract from Samsung to supply the part that would power the optical fingerprint sensor. Korea-based Samsung LSI and BeyondEyes have reportedly shipped samples to Samsung already.

An optical fingerprint sensor is definitely one of the Galaxy S9 features that we expect to see next year. Would you like to see it on Samsung’s new flagship?

How to set a Live Wallpaper on the Galaxy Note 8

Live Wallpapers have been a part of Android since Eclair’s debut back in 2009 and, believe it or not, they haven’t evolved a great deal since then. Sure, there are a lot more to choose from nowadays and they consume less power, but that’s about all that’s different. Well, that and the fact Samsung decided to hide the option to use Live Wallpapers on the Galaxy Note 8—and Galaxy S8—so today we’re going to be showing you how to use them.

Where can I download a Live Wallpaper on my Galaxy Note 8?

Before you go ahead and set a Live Wallpaper, you’re going to need to download one (duh!). There are plenty of different ways of doing so, but the safest (and simplest) is via the Play Store. Just search for Live Wallpapers, select one that tickles your fancy, install it, then you’ll be good to go. We recommend downloading Kaka’s abstract Forest Live Wallpaper to get started. You can find it here.

How do I set a Live Wallpaper on my Galaxy Note 8?

Step 1: Once you’ve downloaded a Live Wallpaper, open up Settings.

Step 2: Tap Wallpapers and Themes.

Step 3: Under the Wallpapers heading, select View All.

Step 4: Press the triple-dot button in the upper-right corner.

Step 5: Choose Live Wallpapers.

Step 6: Locate the Live Wallpaper you installed, tap it, then decide whether you’d like to set it as the wallpaper for your Home Screen or Home Screen and Lock Screen.

Stuck?

That’s all there is to it. If you happen to encounter any issues while following our instructions, feel free to reach out to us in the comments section below—or over on Twitter—and we’ll do our best to get you back on track. Otherwise, be sure to check out our other Galaxy Note 8 tips.

Samsung’s printer business sale to HP approved by China

Samsung announced in September last year that it had decided to sell it printer business to HP for $1.05 billion. Samsung’s printer business sale was part of the company’s restructuring efforts. It wanted to free up cash and focus more on its core businesses. This decision freed up about a billion dollars for the company while also allowing HP to further increase its position as a market leader.

The company created a separate entity after the announcement called S-Printing Solution. It is going to operate the printer business until the deal closes. The subsidiary will then be formally transferred to HP.

Samsung’s Printer Business Sale

The two companies are nearly there now. China has given its approval but some restrictions have been placed on HP. They’re meant to keep HP from monopolizing the market and engaging in unfair practices.

China’s Ministry of Commerce has said that HP should sell its A4 laser printers under “fair and reasonable terms” in the country. It also wants the company to report pricing information and other data to the ministry every six months.

HP has also been forbidden from acquiring stakes in other A4 printer manufacturers in China. It can’t even make a minority equity investment.

While Samsung has left the printer business, the deal does give it the right to sell all HP inkjet products under its own brand in South Korea.

Galaxy A (2018) series specs bump could cause a price increase

Samsung is expected to improve the Galaxy A (2018) series specs considerably, adding features like an Infinity Display and a dual camera. However, it’s likely that these improvements will drive the handsets’ price up. Latest reports suggest that the price of the new series could be higher compared to its predecessor.

All of the upcoming models are expected to get a decent specs bump. Some rumors even suggest that the handsets will feature an Infinity Display. We can expect a dual camera system on the high-end models.

Galaxy A (2018) Series Specs

The Galaxy A (2018) series is likely going to retain the premium build quality of its predecessor as well as its water and dust resistance. The Infinity Display has been rumored multiple times for the new devices.

If that’s meant to happen then we might see the fingerprint sensor being repositioned at the back. However, whether the Infinity Display will be curved on both sides remains to be seen.

The dual camera might not be present on the entry-level Galaxy A3 (2018) so we can expect it on the Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018).

The Galaxy A (2018) series specs bump will also include improved internal hardware, possibly a bigger battery and a tweaked user interface. While Android 8.0 Oreo would have been out for a few months by then, it’s possible that these handsets will be running Nougat when they’re released.

Samsung normally releases its new Galaxy A series in the beginning of the new year so it’s going to take a few months for these devices to become official.

Samsung is bringing its Cinema LED Display to Thailand

Samsung will install a 10.3-meter-wide 4K Cinema LED Display at the Siam Paragon Cineplex in Bangkok, as part of an overseas supply deal it recently signed with Thai movie theater chain Major Cineplex. It will open in February next year.

Unveiled back in South Korea back in July, Samsung’s Cinema LED Display is an HDR-compatible theater screen that employs next-generation picture quality and enhanced audio to provide the best possible viewing experience.

“Through sharper and more realistic colors, complementary audio and an elevated presentation, our Cinema LED Screen makes viewers feel as if they are part of the picture,” said HS Kim, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

Will Samsung launch its Cinema LED Display in more countries?

It’s unclear whether Samsung is working with other chains to bring its Cinema LED Display to more regions, but seeing as Major Cineplex has 110 cinemas and 668 theaters in Thailand, it may not even need to branch out to make a considerable profit.

That said, like any company, Samsung is looking to make as much money as it possibly can, so we’ll probably see its 4K Cinema LED Display pop up in additional cities in the coming months. Hopefully an expansion to London is on the cards.

Samsung to launch smart building IoT system next week

Samsung will unveil an Internet of Things (IoT) system that uses artificial intelligence to automate the management of buildings on October 18, reports The Korea Herald. The concept, which has been dubbed b.IoT, will automatically control temperature and lighting using data obtained by sensors housed in closed-circuit TV units.

It’s not difficult to see where b.IoT will come in use. The system can turn on climate systems ahead of the arrival of workers and detect in real-time when a room is not being used to cut off the power. It can also be used in unison with existing security features to better protect corporate features, according to Samsung.

IoT use has been centered on homes, but that’s about to change

“In the past IoT use has generally been centered on home applications, but if it can be applied to buildings it can greatly expand scale of the market,” a Samsung executive said. “There has been overseas interest in the new solution and by using company buildings as test beds and working out any bugs Samsung can move to tap into the export market.”

Samsung may have dibs on the Snapdragon 845 for Galaxy S9

If a new report is to be believed, Samsung is going to have dibs on the Snapdragon 845 for the Galaxy S9. It had a similar deal with Qualcomm this year as well for the Galaxy S8. Samsung manufactured Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor and got to keep the initial batch for itself. That’s why early this year there was no other Snapdragon 835-powered handset on the market other than the Galaxy S8.

It appears that this might be the case for the Galaxy S9 as well. Qualcomm might return to Samsung in order to get its new chip manufactured. If that happens, Samsung is likely going to want to keep the initial batch of the Snapdragon 845 for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

Dibs On Snapdragon 845 for Galaxy S9

There isn’t a lot of technical information available about the Snapdragon 845 as yet. However, more information is expected to surface in the coming days.

As far as availability is concerned, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will likely be the first handsets to come with Qualcomm’s latest chip. This means that rivals like LG would have to go through yet another flagship cycle without access to Qualcomm’s latest chip.

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S9 early next year. There are rumors about the handset being launched a month earlier than usual. It’s not uncommon for these rumors to come up before a new flagship’s launch, doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen.
