Samsung’s new wireless charger has two fast wireless charging pads

Samsung is set to unveil a new wireless charger with the Galaxy Note 9. This charger was certified by the FCC last month, hinting at support for faster wireless charging speeds than Samsung’s current fast wireless chargers. That was thanks to the higher input power rating mentioned in the FCC documents, but it looks like support for fast charging two devices wirelessly at the same time is the reason the new charger will draw in more voltage and current, not for offering faster charging speeds.

Two fast charging wireless pads

An image of the new charger’s box reveals that it will be called Wireless Charger Duo. There will be two charging pads on it, one standing at an angle and one lying horizontally. As mentioned on the side of the box, both pads will support fast wireless charging at the same time, and the horizontal pad will also be able to charge the upcoming Galaxy Watch. It’s clearly a take on the Apple AirPower wireless charging pad, which can charge three different devices at once. It’s an idea Samsung should have come up with much sooner considering how long it has been offering wireless charging on its devices, but the company will bring its offering to the public before Apple, which hasn’t released the AirPower pad nearly a year after it was unveiled.

There’s no information on how much the Wireless Charger Duo will cost, although Mobile Fun has the product listed for $53.49. That’s clearly not the right price, however, as Samsung sells its current fast wireless charger for nearly $60. But we shouldn’t have to wait too long for the official details, as each day brings us closer and closer to the Galaxy Note 9’s announcement. Hopefully, the company will also offer the product for free with pre-orders in some countries.

Will you be picking up one of these when they go on sale?

Possible Galaxy Note 9 S Pen features revealed by Galaxy Tab S4 firmware

The Galaxy Tab S4’s official firmware has already given us confirmation that the tablet will sport an iris sensor, along with access to the colorful new wallpapers that the tablet will come preloaded with. And, thanks to a little digging around by the folks over at XDA Developers, the Tab S4 firmware is also offering a look at the possible features of the Galaxy Note 9‘s Bluetooth-enabled S Pen.

Bluetooth S Pen will be quite the tool

It has already been rumored that the S Pen will be able to control music playback and act as a remote timer in the camera app, two features our own insiders had told us would be available with the stylus. A teardown of the AirCommand app found in the Tab S4 firmware has revealed that there will quite a few more functions. The S Pen will be able to remotely unlock the phone if it’s not in the slot; there will be the option to set up actions for a single and a double press of the stylus’ button, and it will also possibly give access to additional features and functionality in some apps (most likely the proprietary Samsung apps out of the box, with the option for third-party developers to also take advantage through the S Pen SDK).

The presence of the more feature-packed S Pen code in the Galaxy Tab S4 firmware suggests the tablet will also have a Bluetooth-enabled S Pen. Whether that means the Galaxy Note 9 and the Tab S4 will unveiled at the same time remains to be seen. Samsung will probably want to keep the reveal of the more advanced S Pen for the Galaxy Note 9 launch, though there’s no saying what the company will do.

What is your opinion on the new Bluetooth-enabled S Pen?

Rumor: Galaxy Watch sizes and colors possibly revealed

Samsung is expected to unveil a new smartwatch on August 9 alongside the Galaxy Note 9. It was previously referred to as the Gear S4 but we now know that Samsung is going to launch it as the Galaxy Watch. Even though it’s going to carry the Galaxy branding, we have exclusively confirmed that the new smartwatch will be running Tizen 4.0 out of the box. We have now heard some rumors about the Galaxy Watch sizes and colors.

Galaxy Watch sizes and colors

A couple of FCC listings for the Galaxy Watch have already revealed that the new smartwatch will be available in two different display sizes. The FCC has certified two models – SM-R800 and SM-R810 – with 1.3-inch and 1.2-inch displays respectively.

Word on the street is that there will indeed be a noticeable size difference between the two Galaxy Watch models. The model with the 1.3-inch display will measure 46mm which is the same as the Gear S3. The other model will measure 42mm which is a hair shorter than the 43mm Gear Sport.

Larger watches are in vogue these days so Samsung might find a lot of takers for the 46mm model. Those with smaller wrists who didn’t like how out of place a larger watch looked on them might then be catered to with the 42mm option. Many, including myself, feel that 42mm is an appropriate size for a watch – smart or not.

We exclusively confirmed last month that Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch will be offered in a new gold color. The rumors we’re hearing suggest that the 46mm model will be available in rose gold, black and silver colors. The 42mm model may only be offered in rose gold and silver colors.

Samsung is going to offer Wi-Fi and LTE variants of both models. The rumors claim that the LTE models will be available on all US carriers and that Samsung will release the Galaxy Watch on the same day as the Galaxy Note 9. As it stands, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to be released on August 24.

Do bear in mind that these are rumors and not solid information from trusted sources even though everything claimed is within the realm of possibility.

New Samsung A series may arrive as the A10, A30, A50, A70 and A90

It appears that Samsung might change what it calls it Galaxy A premium mid-range series next year. The company has filed for new trademarks in South Korea and the European Union which suggest that the new Galaxy A series models may be called the Galaxy A10, A30, A50, A70 and the A90.

The new device names provide a hint of where Samsung’s nomenclature might be going in the future. The Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 mark the end of single-digit device names so Samsung might perhaps introduce a new way of numbering its devices once its first flagship of 2019 – the Galaxy S10 – is launched.

Samsung Galaxy A10, A30, A50, A70 and A90

The company has filed trademarks for the Samsung A10, A30, A50, A70 and A90 monikers in addition to Samsung E-FOTA in the European Union. The aforementioned names will be used for “Smartphones; mobile telephones; tablet computers,” according to the filing documents. The company has also filed to trademark the Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50 names in South Korea. The E-FOTA trademark is for something else entirely. It a Firmware Over The Air update method for Samsung Knox.

What this suggests is that the successors to the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A8 may not be named what you might expect them to be. Samsung may choose one from the multiples of ten in the Galaxy A10, A30, A50, A70 and A90 list for these devices.

This nomenclature might then be used for the company’s entire lineup. So the possibility exists that there may not be a Galaxy S11 but a Galaxy S20. The strategy would be similar to that of Huawei which also uses multiples of ten to name some of its flagship smartphones. It’s pertinent to mention here, though, that this is just speculation at this point in time.

Does the potential new naming scheme for Samsung’s smartphones make sense to you or would you rather the company just carry on the way it has been doing things for the past few years?

Leaked render shows off the Galaxy Note 9 in Lilac Purple

Another day, another Galaxy Note 9 leaked render. We have seen a few of these already in addition to live photos of the handset. Samsung won’t be surprising anyone on August 9 as far as the design of this handset is concerned.

The latest leaked render of the Galaxy Note 9 shows that it will more or less be business as usual in the design department. What it does show is how the Lilac Purple color will look on the Galaxy Note 9.

Galaxy Note 9 in Lilac Purple

Samsung introduced the Lilac Purple color with the Galaxy S9 earlier this year and it has been well received. It’s not surprising to see that the company will be offering its next flagship in this new color as well.

This leaked render shows off the Galaxy Note 9 in Lilac Purple. The handset looks good in it. No new observations can be made in the device, though. It will look almost identical to the Galaxy Note 8 from the front. There are some noticeable changes at the back. The housing for the horizontal dual camers is new while the fingerprint sensor is now placed below the camera sensors.

We recently reported that the Galaxy Note 9 will be available in five colors at launch and Lilac Purple is one of them. The others include black, gray, blue and a new brown color.

As for when the Galaxy Note 9 will be available, reports suggest that the handset will be released on August 24 once pre-orders begin on August 14. This hasn’t been confirmed by Samsung as yet. The company will confirm pricing and availability information for the device at its August 9 event in New York.

The Galaxy Note 9 may not be the only device that Samsung unveils on August 9. Word on the street is that the much awaited Galaxy Watch may also be unveiled on the same day at the same event. Not only that, it’s also expected to be released on August 24 as well.
