Themes Thursday: 48 themes released in the Theme Store this week

We are back again this week with Themes Thursday! Samsung has released 48 themes this week for its recently released smartphones in the Theme Store. We’ve liked only seven of those themes, and most of these themes are paid.

The Aire series of themes are pretty good, thanks to its neatly designed modern icons and good fonts. A couple of themes from the MINU collection are quite decent as well. There are a bunch of Christmas related themes, and two of them are really good. Which themes did you like?

Samsung Galaxy A9 leaks through GeekBench, Snapdragon 620 and 3GB RAM confirmed

Samsung is working on a high-end Galaxy A series smartphone, the Galaxy A9, which we revealed long back. The device was leaked multiple times in the past few weeks revealing its specifications. Now, the device has been leaked through GeekBench, confirming some of the details.

The SM-A9000, which will most probably be released as the Galaxy A9, will come with Snapdragon 620 (MSM8976) SoC. This will make it the first device to be powered by the chipset. The Snapdragon 620 features four Cortex-A53 CPU cores, four Cortex-A72 CPU cores, Adreno 510 GPU, and an integrated Cat. 7 LTE radio.

The device will come preloaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and feature a 6-inch Super AMOLED display, 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 16-megapixel primary camera, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera. Samsung is also working on the successors to the Galaxy A3, the Galaxy A5, and the Galaxy A7.

Attention: The Gear VR could burn a hole into your smartphone display

The consumer-ready version of the Gear VR went on sale recently in some important markets around the world, and the device was sold out online and in Korea. If you have purchased the virtual reality headset from Samsung, here are a few safety related warnings  that you should take into account.

The folks over at RoadToVR have noticed that you should never leave the Gear VR out in the sun with the smartphone inside it. You should know that the lenses can focus sun rays (working similar to a magnifying glass) onto the smartphone’s display, damaging it permanently.

Moreover, you should not use the Gear VR without the phone docked inside it. If you use it that way, you could lose your vision when you watch a powerful light source (like the Sun). Moreover, you should not let kids below the age of 13 use the Gear VR for an extended period of time, because the user manual states that it can limit the visual development of the children.

The Gear VR is one of the best virtual reality headsets out there, and consuming content through it is quite immersive, but you should never use it under direct sunlight as it can damage your eyes or your smartphone’s display. So, you should be very careful about how you use the it and where you use it.

ZeroLemon releases 3500mAh battery case for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+

Samsung has taken a lot of flak for not including a removable battery in its 2015 flagship handsets and users do find themselves struggling to get more than a full day’s usage out of devices like the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge. The company did try to make amends with support for Fast Charging and built-in wireless charging but that’s not enough, which is why many users are investing in battery cases like the ones from Mophie. ZeroLemon is another company which makes such cases and it has now released 3500mAh battery cases for both the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+.

The ZeroLemon case features a 3500mAh battery built-in which means that it’s capable of fully charging the Galaxy Note 5 or the Galaxy S6 edge+ from 0% to full and then some. It’s housed in a black TPU case that also protects against drops and heavy shocks, but adds a bit of bulk and weight to the device, that’s a compromise that you have to make just to get more juice for your handset. The ZeroLemon battery case for the Galaxy Note 5 and for the Galaxy S6 edge+ are both available for purchase right now via Amazon, they’re priced at $39.99.

Verizon and AT&T also start selling the Galaxy Note 5 in Gold Platinum

Carriers in the United States didn’t offer the Galaxy Note 5 in Gold Platinum when the handset first came out a couple of months ago so customers who wanted one either had to purchase an unlocked version from independent retailers or wait on their carrier to bring this color option. T-Mobile started selling the Galaxy Note 5 in Gold Platinum a fortnight back and now both Verizon and AT&T are selling the handset is this color as well.

It’s only the color that’s different otherwise it’s the exact same handset that Verizon and AT&T have been selling for months now. Pricing is the same as well, AT&T will sell you the 64GB Galaxy Note 5 in Gold Platinum for $839.99 upfront or with $0 down and $28 per month for 30 months. It’s also selling the device with a conventional two year service contract for $349.99. Verizon has the 32GB Galaxy Note 5 in Gold Platinum for $696 upfront or $0 down and equal monthly installments of $29 for 24 months.
