LinkedIn’s content and calendar experience integrated with Bixby

Samsung has worked with LinkedIn to deeply integrate the professional social network with Bixby. The digital assistant on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ now has access to LinkedIn’s content and calendar experience. Users just need to swipe to the right and they will find the LinkedIn content on Bixby home.

Bixby can now show information from LinkedIn that can help users prepare for an upcoming meeting and accomplish their tasks for the day. It will keep them on top of things with details such as who they’re meeting and even bring them the top news of the day.

Prior to a meeting, Bixby will notify users with information about who they will be meeting with through “My Schedule” notifications. It will also share links to their LinkedIn profile which provides other relevant information such as shared connections.

This information will also be displayed for completed meetings under the “LinkedIn: People You Met” section or quick and easy follow-ups. Users can easily access Trending Storylines on LinkedIn so that they’re always in the loop with latest news and perspectives.

Setting up the enhanced LinkedIn integration with Bixby is easy. Just download the LinkedIn app and log in with the account. That’s all Bixby needs to start pulling in content from LinkedIn.

Another leak suggests South Korea will get a 256GB Galaxy Note 8 variant

We’ve heard before that Samsung could launch a 256GB storage variant of the Galaxy Note 8 dubbed Galaxy Note 8 Emporer Edition. While there’s no telling if Samsung will go with such a title, it does look like the Note 8 will indeed be offered with 256GB of inbuilt storage. Roland Quandt has tweeted an image of what looks like a listing for the Note 8’s Korean models, and most of them have “256GB” in the model number.

Samsung doesn’t usually name model numbers for different storage options like this, but the source of this information has been known to be accurate in the past. Samsung would do well to release a version with 256GB storage, given the Note lineup is aimed at the power users and professionals, who could do with as much storage out of the box as possible. Not to mention it is also a necessary step to counter the iPhone. The iPhone 7 was launched with 256GB of storage and it’s highly likely the same will be the case for the iPhone 8.

As is usually the case with Samsung, such an off-kilter model will probably be limited to a few markets, with availability expanding at a later stage as and when the company deems fit. A 256GB Galaxy Note 8 model certainly looks to be on the cards, though. Even if availability is limited, we can at least look forward to Samsung making the 128GB model more widely available. You know, unless the 128GB model is replaced by the 256GB version, in which case it could be back to square one for consumers in most markets.

AT&T confirms Galaxy S8 Active pre-orders open tomorrow

AT&T has finally confirmed that it’s going to start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 Active from tomorrow, August 8. The carrier has officially confirmed Samsung’s new handset which the company says is its “toughest Galaxy smartphone yet.”

The Galaxy S8 Active has a metal frame and a bumper to protect it from bumps and drops. There’s a rugged, rough texture on the back for a secure grip. Built to military-grade durability specifications, the handset is shock, shatter, water and dust resistant.

It features a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED flat display with a 18.5:9 aspect ratio. All of the other internals like the processor, RAM and storage remain the same. The Galaxy S8 Active comes with Bixby as well.

AT&T is going to start taking pre-orders for the handset from tomorrow. It will be available in Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold colors. The Galaxy S8 Active will be available in-store from AT&T starting August 11.

Customers will be able to purchase the Galaxy S8 Active on the AT&T Next plan for $28.34 for 30 months. That’s works out to $850.

Interestingly, Samsung has said that the Galaxy S8 Active will be an AT&T exclusive “for a limited time.” This means that the Galaxy S8 Active might be the first “Active” smartphone from Samsung to land on another carrier.

AT&T seems to have pulled the product page for the Galaxy S8 Active that went live earlier today but given that the launch dates have now been confirmed, it’s likely that the page will be back up again soon.

The Samsung Keyboard app is now available on the Play Store

Samsung Keyboard is the latest proprietary Samsung app to be published on the Play Store, so you can grab the latest updates without waiting for an update to the operating system itself. The app seems to have been put up on the Play Store late last month; for now, it’s only supported on the Galaxy S8 and S8+, but support for more devices will no doubt be added in the future.

If you own a Galaxy S8 or S8+, you should see an update for Samsung Keyboard available on Google Play. The update doesn’t have anything other than bug fixes or improvements, but future updates should have more to offer. Hit the source link to find Samsung Keyboard on the Play Store, and let us know if you find it working on any other device that you may be using.

Samsung heir may end up in jail for 12 years

Samsung’s heir apparent Lee Jae-yong was arrested earlier this year on allegations of corruption. The country’s corruption scandal has already led to the ouster of former President Park Geun-hye. Lee Jae-yong’s arrest came after his indictment on corruption and embezzlement charges.

Lee Jae-yong is the only son of the ailing Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee and is the heir apparent to the conglomerate. A merger between the conglomerate’s two affiliates – Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T – was widely seen as a crucial step for his ascension to the pivotal leadership role.

It’s alleged that bribes were paid to the ousted president through a close confidant in order to win the government’s backing for the merger.

The prosecution has now asked a court in Seoul to sentence the Samsung scion to 12 years in jail on charges of bribery in connection with the corruption scandal.

Special Counsel Park Youg-soo said at the final hearing held at the Seoul Central District Court that Lee Jae-Yong, currently the vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, was a direct beneficiary and final decision maker in the bribery scandal.

“Samsung Group voluntarily offered funds rather than gave in to former President Park’s threats, expecting to get help in the firm’s leadership transfer, after it received a request from Park,” Young-soo said, adding that it was a classic case of “crony capitalism.”

The court will hand down its ruling on the matter on August 25.

Gear S3’s voice dictation system for text messages isn’t working in the US since four months

Samsung had released a ‘value pack’ software update for the Gear S3 in the US four months ago. While it brought a lot of new features to the smartwatch, it also introduced a critical bug. After installing the software update, users couldn’t access the voice dictation feature for replying to text messages after a couple of times. It’s been four months since the bug was introduced, but Samsung seems to be in no hurry to fix it.

The feature seems broken only for US English users. While Samsung has announced a couple of workarounds to get the feature working, many users are still facing the same problem. One of those workarounds include setting the Gear S3’s language to UK English, but users are reporting that they’re facing problems with voice recognition due to changes in the accent. The other workaround includes users hitting the keyboard input button while replying to a text message, then rotating the watch’s dial all the way to select the last input option.

This voice dictation bug on the Gear S3 only occurs when replying to text messages, working fine while using other apps such as S Voice or while making phone calls. Although a Samsung representative has acknowledged the bug on May 1 and reportedly passed it to the engineers, the company is yet to roll out a fix. Some users are speculating that Samsung might fix the bug while rolling out Bixby to the smartwatch, but we are yet to see any sign regarding such plans.

Live pictures of the Galaxy Note 8 leaked

We’ve only seen leaked renders of the Galaxy Note 8 so far but that changes today. Several live pictures of the Galaxy Note 8 have been leaked online. The upcoming handset struts its stuff in these real-life images. The images show a device that’s in line with what we’ve heard so far about the Galaxy Note 8’s design.

It’s quite likely that these images are of a Galaxy Note 8 prototype, possibly one of the final prototypes that has a lot of similarities with the final version of the handset. As expected, the 6.3-inch Infinity Display dominates the front of the device.

The Galaxy Note 8 has a more squared shape so it doesn’t look that similar to the Galaxy S8. It also has the dedicated Bixby button on the left. We can see the fingerprint sensor at the back alongside the dual camera system. The Galaxy Note 8 will be Samsung’s first flagship smartphone to feature a dual camera system.

The S Pen is seen in these leaked images as well. It doesn’t look all that different from its predecessors, but then again, there’s only so much that you can change on a stylus.

Samsung is due to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 on August 23. The company will confirm pricing and availability information at the event in New York City.
