New Samsung Wireless Charger Pad Trio will charge three devices at once

After two years, Samsung is at least ready to deliver a direct follow-up to the Wireless Charger Duo in the form of – what else than – an even larger accessory designed to service three devices simultaneously. The new gadget will be advertised as the Wireless Charger Pad Trio, according to known industry insider Evan Blass. The same source just shared one of the official press renders of the Wireless Charger Pad Trio (shown above). The sole fact that a high-resolution render of the gadget even exists is indicative of an imminent release.

Much like its predecessor, this next-generation product is equipped with a conventional USB Type-C port and will ostensibly ship with a fast-charging cable and USB-C power adapter. Naturally, we’re looking at yet another one of Samsung’s solutions utilizing the Qi wireless charging specification.

It’s to be expected the Wireless Charger Pad Trio will offer 15W charging support identical to that of the Wireless Charger Duo. What’s more, while the black variant of the device seen above may be end up releasing on its own, history tells us it shouldn’t be long before Samsung at the very least gives us the choice between black and white iterations.

This king-sized Galaxy accessory may already be official next week

As things stand right now, there’s no reason to believe the Wireless Charger Pad Trio is meant to outright replace the Wireless Charger Duo. That is, Samsung is much more likely to be selling both of them moving forward, together with its single-slot chargers and related accessories. There’s still no word on the price but given how the Wireless Charger Duo still goes for $99, expect to part with a pretty penny in exchange for this iterative sequel. Then again, anyone whose collection of smartphones, wearables, and other electronics with wireless charging support has been growing on the regular in recent years will know that the luxury of charging multiple gadgets from a single source is a pretty massive quality-of-life improvement.

It’s quite possible the wait until the release of the Wireless Charger Pad Trio may only last a couple more days. As a reminder, Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Z Fold 2 next Tuesday, September 1st, which is as good of an opportunity as any for it to move some unprecedentedly spacious wireless chargers.  Now, if it could only get around to making its fast wireless charging tech worthy of that moniker.

Full Galaxy Z Fold 2 spec sheet leaks ahead of September 1 launch

Samsung had revealed the Galaxy Z Fold 2 at Galaxy Unpacked 2020 but it didn’t go into a lot of details about the new foldable’s technical specifications, saving them for Unpacked Part 2. Several Galaxy Z Fold 2 characteristics have already been revealed via early hands-on and unboxing videos, so most Samsung fans already have a general idea of what to expect from this device. But not every technical detail has been revealed; until now.

WinFuture appears to have gotten hold of the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s full spec sheet ahead of September 1. Various details are reiterated but in case you need to catch up on this device, this is your chance. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 865+ chipset paired with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 265GB of UFS 3.1 storage that’s not expandable.

Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 2 display specs

Samsung’s second-gen Galaxy Z Fold 2 is equipped with a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED cover display with HDR10+ capabilities, 60Hz refresh rate, and a resolution of 2260 by 816. The larger Dynamic AMOLED 2x foldable display has a 7.6-inch diagonal, 120Hz refresh rate, and a pixel count of 2208 by 1768.

Interestingly, although the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s new foldable screen employs UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass), the panel reportedly features an additional plastic plastic protective film, claims WinFuture citing anonymous sources. We’re guessing this plastic film should not be removed by users, or else they risk breaking the foldable display.

Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 2 camera specs

According to the source, the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s main triple camera setup comprises a 12MP ultra-wide shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and 1.12um pixels; a 12MP wide shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, 1.8um pixels, Dual Pixel Autofocus, and OIS; and a 12MP telephoto sensor with an f/2.4 aperture and 1.0um pixels. The system is capable of recording videos at 4K resolution and can also shoot slow motion clips at 960fps.

The selfie cameras embedded in the Infinity-O cutout of both the cover and foldable panels are said to be identical. They have a resolution of 10MP, an f/2.2 aperture, and 1.22um pixels. They can record 4K videos at 60fps and take advantage of HDR10+, hyperlapse, night mode, and Bixby Vision.

Galaxy Z Fold 2: Other specifications

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 packs two batteries with a combined capacity of 4,500mAh. It’s capable of 25W fast charging, 11W wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare. The source claims that the battery can last for up to 31 hours on a single charge when limited to 4G connectivity, but obviously this figure will go down considerably with heavy usage.

Other details include stereo speakers tuned by AKG and a variety of sensors ranging from a side-mounted fingerprint scanner to a barometer, gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass. The phone-tablet hybrid supports connectivity features such as Bluetooth 5.0, WLAN, and USB-C. It’s said to measure 159.2 x 128.2 x 6.9mm and weigh 279 grams, making it slightly shorter and narrower but a tad heavier than the original Galaxy Fold.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will ship with Android 10 and One UI 2.5 out of the box, and it comes with a few foldable-specific software features like Flex Mode and the ability to run three apps simultaneously.

Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy Z Fold 2 on September 1 and the device is expected to hit the shelves for around 2,000 euro in Europe and £1,799 in the UK.

Samsung still stringing B2B triumphs, citing global pandemic as inspiration

While it’s difficult to imagine a year more detached from blissful monotony than what 2020 ended up being, Samsung remains adamant to make the most of these circumstances. Or, better said, some of its key decision makers are committed to doing so. Samsung B2B General Manager and SVP, Taher Behbehani, is one among the executives subscribing to that tenacious school of thought.

The industry veteran recently went on record to claim the novel coronavirus pandemic “inspired” a wide variety of changes to the company’s digital solutions portfolio, ultimately yielding some highly beneficial results.

The secret to sustainable success: When in doubt, work twice as hard

Behbehani’s remark was made in reference to a multitude of work-from-home services Samsung introduced or refined over the course of this year. Among other things, the technology juggernaut expanded its video conferencing portfolio, organized door-to-door device repair services, and greenlit a number of somewhat obvious (but still highly appreciated) endeavors such as a full-fledged remote app testing environment. All the while doubling down on projects like DeX aimed at making computing more accessible and proactively advising both existing and potential customers in an effort to help them acclimatize to this new stay-at-home reality. And that’s on top of pro bono B2B support Samsung has been providing to dozens of small- and medium-sized businesses since early spring.

Samsung’s efforts to reimagine the 21st century workplace aren’t over. On the contrary, it was just yesterday that we found out the company is planning yet another pilot program meant to allow even more of its employees to work remotely in an efficient manner. The target demographic of this particular undertaking is Samsung’s consumer electronics division and its mobile unit, in particular. The experiment will gradually extend to employees of the chaebol’s chipmaking arm, Samsung said.

All things considered, while the future remains somewhat uncertain as the COVID-19 vaccine is still nowhere in sight, Samsung’s isn’t hesitating over what to do. That’s particularly evident in its B2B operations which are simultaneously investing in countless pandemic relief efforts and doing (potential) customer outreach, all in a way that naturally lends itself to a consistent stream of wholesome publicity.

Galaxy Note 20 series shatters pre-order records in the UK

The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra were released in the UK on August 21 after a pre-order period that lasted a couple of weeks, and it turns out that the new S Pen series has performed admirably. The Galaxy Note 20 lineup topped new pre-order records for the series in the UK, as it registered a 49% increase in pre-order numbers compared to the Galaxy Note 10 series.

The Mystic Bronze color option had the highest demand across the Galaxy Note 20 series, according to Samsung UK. 46% of pre-sold Galaxy Note 20/Note 20 Ultra units came in this color but the company hasn’t revealed how the other flavors have performed. The Galaxy Note 20 is available in the UK in Mystic Bronze, Mystic Green, and Mystic Gray, whereas the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes in Mystic Bronze, Mystic Black, and Mystic White.

The Galaxy Note 20 in the UK has a starting price of £849

The company didn’t reveal which of the two Galaxy Note 20 models was more successful either. This would’ve been a very interesting detail to share given the stark differences between the base Galaxy Note 20 model and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. But regardless, this is great news for Samsung UK especially after pre-order figures in South Korea fell short of the Galaxy Note 10 lineup.

The Galaxy Note 20 is available in the UK in 4G and 5G flavors with 256GB of storage for £849 and £949, respectively. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is available with 256GB and 512GB of built-in memory for £1,179 and £1,279. Prospective buyers can shave up to £400 off the full price by trading-in an eligible device. The phones can be purchased from Samsung.com as well as Samsung KX, nationwide Experience Stores, and select retail partners.

Dutch retailer reveals Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 (2020) price and release date

The Galaxy Tab S7 flagship series took over the Android tablet market earlier this month but as exciting as the new series is, it’s not for everyone, as even the base Galaxy Tab S7 model exceeds the $500 price point. The flagship tablet has a lot to offer so the price tag is deserved, but the point remains that if you’re in the market for a new budget Galaxy tablet then you’ll have to look elsewhere. Thankfully you might not have to look for long as the Galaxy Tab A7 could hit the shelves in mid-September for a much lower price, according to a Dutch retailer.

Centralpoint is now listing the Wi-Fi-only 32GB Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 online alongside a price of 235 euro including VAT. The same Dutch retailer also lists the 32GB Galaxy Tab A7 LTE for 293 euro, as well as the 64GB Wi-Fi and LTE models for 266 and 323 euro, respectively. Aside from revealing these tentative prices, the retailer claims that the tablet should arrive in stock on September 11.

Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 (2020) quick spec roundup

Samsung’s budget-oriented Galaxy Tab A7 10.4 (2020) should be equipped with a 10.4-inch display with a resolution of 2000 by 1200, the Snapdragon 662 chipset paired with an Adreno 610 GPU, and 3GB of RAM. These details come from a previous Google Play Console listing so they should be accurate.

The tablet was also certified by regulatory bodies including the FCC, with documents revealing specs like Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, a 7,040mAh battery, and dimensions clocking in at 247.6 x 157.36 x 293.37mm. We also expect the tablet to run Android 10 but the version of One UI is unknown. It’s likely One UI 2.1 but it’s unconfirmed.

Galaxy S20+ spotted running Android 11 and new Samsung Internet version

Samsung’s exact plans for bringing Android 11 to its smartphones remain unknown, for now, but you can be certain that the Galaxy S20 series will be among the first to receive the update. The first clues hinting that Samsung has started developing Android 11 for the Galaxy S20 emerged in July, while earlier this month the Galaxy S20+ was also spotted in an online benchmark running Android 11. And if you need another bit of evidence to support that the new OS version is underway, here it is: the Galaxy S20+ running Android 11 was recently benchmarked on HTML5test.

In addition to the newer Android OS version, the HTML benchmark also revealed that the Galaxy S20+ in testing was running Samsung Internet 13.0. This version has yet to be released to the public, as Samsung Internet has just made the jump to version 12.1.2.5 this week. We don’t know what version 13.0 brings to the table but either way, the Galaxy S20+ that was tested running this combination of firmware and software scored 469 points out of a maximum of 555 in HTML5test.

Samsung hasn’t made any announcements as to when it might provide a more open beta version of Android 11 to Galaxy S20 owners, but One UI 3.0 based on Android 11 entered the pre-beta phase earlier this month, allowing a small number of applicants in South Korea and the USA to register for testing. But if history is any indication, the first Android 11 beta build should land on the Galaxy S20 lineup in or around October.

Galaxy A51 now receiving August 2020 security update

The August 2020 security update at last reached the Galaxy A51 (SM-A515F), with its deployment beginning late Thursday. Identified by build number A515FXXS3BTH2, this particular over-the-air release contains no changes or novelties beyond the new security patch level dated August 1st, 2020. As always, Samsung is conducting a staged rollout in order to minimize the potential network impact of the update.

The first release wave is largely focused on Latin America as it includes the likes of Colombia, Peru, Panama, Chile, and the Dominican Republic.

Nothing beyond vulnerability patches to see here

If you still haven’t received a notification nudging you to download the August update to your Galaxy A51 device, there’s always the option of attempting to trigger the installation manually by going to Settings Software update Download and install. If all else fails and your patience is at its end, you may be eligible for the ultimate shortcut in the form of flashing an entire system image containing the new security update to onto your device. Assuming you understand the risks associated with this level of tinkering, refer to SamMobile’s firmware archives to find a system image compatible with your particular Galaxy A51 model. Our database is updated with official Samsung patches 24/7, so if a given OTA release was deployed on any scale, you can rest assured it will show up in our archives within hours.

As for the Galaxy A51 itself, this value-oriented mid-ranger is expected to be among Samsung’s top 2020 performers in terms of annual unit sales. With good reason, we might add. The A51 is also going to be one of the few confirmed mid-rangers from Samsung to receive three generations of Android and One UI updates.

Galaxy S20 Fan Edition and S20 FE 5G confirmed in overeager promo

It’s a tale as old as smartphones: Samsung is several months deep into preparations for a new flagship launch, but one of its minuscule regional offices ends up spoiling the surprise in an utterly anticlimactic manner. While the existence of the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition range was hardly a mystery until now, the series’ incoming arrival is pretty much confirmed as of today. That’s thanks to a piece of overeager copywriting published by Samsung Bulgaria.

More specifically, this Eastern European Samsung division appears to have messed up its marketing materials concerning the latest iteration of the company’s YouTube Premium promotion. In effect, it ended up publishing an early revision of the promo’s eligibility requirements clearly meant for Samsung’s next product release cycle. In other words, the technical details of the said YouTube Premium offer casually name-drop both the Galaxy S20 FE and the Galaxy S20 FE 5G not once but twice each.

LTE and 5G models likely to go their separate ways

The development pretty much confirms the two Fan Edition smartphones are getting pretty close to their commercial debut. Exactly how much longer do we have to wait for the official announcement remains to be seen, though the current consensus among insiders has the launch pegged for October. While the LTE-only Galaxy S20 FE model is likely to target specific markets instead of just tagging along with the Galaxy S20 FE 5G, expect way more variety in terms of color options. In fact, it was just last week that half a dozen Galaxy S20 Fan Edition variants emerged, promising a pretty colorful fall for Samsung aficionados.

All things considered, if you’re on the fence with the Galaxy Note 20 family, Samsung’s Q4 flagships may be just the thing to satiate your appetite for pure value.

My biggest issue with the Galaxy Note 20 may be its huge punch hole

It’s no secret that the regular Galaxy Note 20 is an embarrassment for a flagship that costs $999. A plastic back, old Gorilla Glass 5, a 60Hz display, no microSD slot, not-so-much better S Pen all make it far less interesting than even last year’s Galaxy Note 10. But my biggest gripe with the Note 20 may be the gaping large punch hole for the selfie camera, as I’ve realized after I started using the phone earlier this week for our upcoming review.

A sub-$300 Galaxy phone has a smaller punch hole than the Galaxy Note 20

We already knew the camera punch hole on the Galaxy Note 20 isn’t as tiny as the Note 20 Ultra’s, but you have to see it in person to realize how big it actually is in comparison. I know complaining about the punch hole is nitpicking at its finest, but come on, even the most recent sub-$300 Galaxy M series phone has a smaller punch hole than the Note 20. That’s also true for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. Essentially, the camera cutout is the same size as it was on the year-old Galaxy Note 10, and it’s one of many signs that Samsung wasn’t interested in making the Galaxy Note 20 much of an upgrade.

Of course, it may just be that the larger punch hole and the other questionable aspects of the Galaxy Note 20 were always the plan so consumers would be pushed towards spending an additional $300 for the Note 20 Ultra (review). It’s the only logical explanation to why Samsung didn’t try to make the phone even a little bit exciting despite attaching a $999 price tag to it. While Samsung is offering more and more for the asking price with its budget and mid-range phones these days, the Galaxy Note 20 is a great example of the company doing the opposite for its high-end devices.

I’m afraid many customers will pick up a Note 20 expecting greatness because of the money they’re shelling out. Not that it’s a bad phone – it’s got the same cameras as the Galaxy S20 and S20+, the S Pen and all the related software features, and many of the usual trappings of a Galaxy flagship, like a beautiful AMOLED display, stereo speakers, water and dust resistance, and wireless charging. But the list of shortcomings — or rather, a lack of features we expect on a flagship in 2020 — is rather long, and I have a feeling that camera cutout is going to stick out like a sore thumb the entire time I’m going to be using this phone.

Samsung Internet gets dark mode visibility improvements and more

A new version of Samsung Internet started rolling out globally, introducing a wide variety of feature improvements and bug fixes to the popular Chromium browser. Identified by build number 12.1.2.5, this latest app update is all about polish. For starters, it further refines the browser’s Dark Mode functionality by touching up some interactive elements, such as the Find on Page box, in order to make them easier to spot while the lights are off, so to speak.

Samsung Internet 12.1.2.5 also polishes the app’s ability to display and navigate desktop pages. For example, it eliminates a well-documented pop-up zoom error that often prevented seamless desktop zooming in the past. The root of the issue was likely some peculiar javascript interaction, though Samsung didn’t provide any details on the matter beyond listing the issue as fixed.

Samsung Internet 12.1.2.5 is all about polish

Speaking of zooming, the new version of Samsung Internet also improves pinch-to-zoom functionality for mobile pages. Video Assistant-specific enhancements are part of the package as well. The most obvious progress in this regard comes in the form of way more reliable switching from picture-in-picture video playback to a full-screen player. In previous versions of Samsung Internet, this simple course of action frequently produced generic errors which were occasionally accompanied by app freezes. That feature should finally work as intended once you’re running version 12.1.2.5 of the app.

Finally, the newest Samsung Internet release ships with elevated geolocation accuracy, as well as a range of smaller bug fixes and general-purpose performance optimizations. Samsung is rolling out the update in a gradual manner, both via the Google Play Store and its own Galaxy Store storefront. If you’re feeling particularly impatient, you can also sideload the newest version of Samsung Internet by taking advantage of SamMobile’s APK archives.
