Live images of the Samsung SM-W2017 high-end flip phone spotted

Samsung recently announced the Galaxy Folder 2 entry-level clamshell smartphone in China. However, the company is also working on a high-end flip phone codenamed ‘Veyron‘, which we reported about exclusively three months back. Now, live images of the device have been leaked.

The SM-W2017, which succeeds the SM-W2016, reportedly features a 4.2-inch Super AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and a USB Type-C port. It also comes with a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus and 4K video recording, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

The device comes with what seems to be a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as a heart rate monitor. Its overall design seems inspired by that of the Galaxy S7. It is also said to feature NFC and Samsung Pay. However, the device will most likely be a China exclusive, and Samsung might not release it in other markets.

The Samsung+ application will now tell you if your Galaxy Note 7 needs to be replaced

Earlier this week, Samsung added a page to its official website that enables Galaxy Note 7 owners to determine if their specific handset is subject to the recall by looking at the code etched on the bottom of the back of the device, then plugging it into a box on the page.

Now, however, the South Korean company has decided to make it a little bit easier for customers to see if they need to return their unit as it has updated its official Samsung+ application in the Play Store with the same functionality as its website.

If you already have Samsung+ on your Galaxy Note 7 and would like to install the update, simply open up the Play Store, toggle the hamburger menu on the left-hand side of the screen, select ‘My Apps’, click on ‘Samsung+’, then hit the update button.

Galaxy A3 (2017) heads to India for testing

We exclusively reported last month that Samsung is now working on the 2017 iteration of the Galaxy A3, the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A7. Some specs of these handsets have already been leaked, particularly those of the Galaxy A3 (2017) which was recently spotted on GFXBench. The handset has now been spotted on an import tracker which reveals that Samsung has imported the Galaxy A3 (2017) into India for testing.

We have previously reported that the Galaxy A3 (2017) is likely to feature a 4.7-inch display, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 8GB of storage aside from a 13-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front camera. Specifications of the Galaxy A5 (2017) and the Galaxy A7 (2017) have been leaked as well and it’s likely that these leaks will continue to come in until this new lineup is officially announced. The Galaxy A3 (2017) is certainly going to be the entry-level model in this series so expect it to be priced accordingly. Samsung is yet to confirm when the 2017 iteration of the Galaxy A series will be launched.

Samsung starts supplying Tizen handsets to Russia’s biggest company

Samsung’s Tizen platform appears to be performing quite nicely in Russia where handsets like the Samsung Z3 are actively being used by corporate customers as well as government bodies. Oil and gas giant Gazprom is one of the biggest state-owned companies in Russia and Samsung has now started supplying Tizen-powered smartphones to it. President Samsung Electronics San Jin Pak has said that even Russian state authorities are interested in Samsung’s devices as they have praised its security credentials.

Since the Tizen operating system has received FSTEC certification, it makes smartphones powered by this OS compliant with the requirements of state security in Russia. The country’s Ministry of Communications has already sourced these handsets from Samsung earlier this year in June. There have also been reports that developers in Russia are porting a modified version of Tizen OS for the Samsung Z3 which features apps and services geared towards corporate users in Russia. Having a deal with one of the biggest companies on the planet would only instill confidence in the nascent Tizen platform.

Samsung will resume sales of the Galaxy Note 7 on September 28

The Galaxy Note 7 recall debacle is gradually coming to an end for Samsung. In the coming week the company will start providing replacement inventory in key markets so that existing customers can turn in their Galaxy Note 7 units for new ones that have safe batteries. Once it’s done replacing units, Samsung can get down to the business of selling the Galaxy Note 7 once again as sales were suspended when it officially acknowledged the battery cell issue and recalled the handset. Samsung has now said that it’s going to resume Galaxy Note 7 sales on September 28.

A spokeswoman for the company has confirmed that Samsung is going to resume sales of the Galaxy Note 7 on September 28 in its home market of South Korea. Samsung will start providing replacement inventory in South Korea from Monday so there will be ample time for it to complete the replacement program before it resumes sales. Sales will resume in other countries as and when conditions allow but it shouldn’t take more than a couple of weeks for the company to start selling the Galaxy Note 7 across the globe once again.
