Twitter will now respect your Galaxy phone’s dark mode setting

Most Android phones come with a system-wide dark mode these days, and many, many third-party apps come with a dark theme to make reading easier and to reduce battery usage on devices with AMOLED screens. Many apps let the user select between a light theme and a dark theme and also have the option to just follow the system-wide dark mode setting on a phone, but others only let you manually switch between a dark and a light theme.

Twitter is one of the popular apps that falls in the latter camp, or at least it did: Twitter has now received an update that adds a “use device settings” option for its dark mode feature. This option has gone live in the app for many Android users in the last couple of days, including users of Samsung Galaxy phones, and is being heralded as an important addition to the app, which we would have to agree with.

To select whether dark mode in the Twitter app is always on, always off, or follows your device setting, simply tap on your profile pic in the app, select Settings and privacy, tap Accessibility, display, and languages, select Display, then go into the Dark mode menu. If you don’t see the new “use device settings” option, try updating the Twitter app from the Google Play Store.

Samsung wants half of Galaxy phones planned for 2022 to use Exynos

Samsung appears to have great faith in its upcoming Exynos chipsets for 2022. Because of this, the company has reportedly devised an attack plan to double or triple the adoption rate of Exynos application processors (AP) in Galaxy smartphones next year.

The most anticipated Exynos solution for 2022 is the Exynos 2200. It’s expected to boast AMD graphics, and it will be the first Exynos chipset to do so. Performance looks promising in early benchmarks and reports, and of course, Samsung hopes that the Exynos 2200 will prove its worth against Qualcomm’s own upcoming high-end chipset — the Snapdragon 895.

More to the matter at hand, the company wants a lot more Galaxy smartphones that are planned for release in 2022 to adopt Exynos SoCs.

Exynos adoption rate to double/triple among Galaxy devices

Roughly 20% of all Galaxy smartphones are equipped with Exynos chipsets. The other 80% are powered by other chipmakers, including Qualcomm and Mediatek. Samsung wants to change this next year, and we’ve already heard that the upcoming Galaxy A53 and A73 could feature new Exynos chipsets.

Regardless of these two iconic mid-range lineups, Samsung will want to increase the adoption rate of Exynos chipsets among Galaxy smartphones from 20% to 50-60%, says a new report passed along by ET News.

Essentially, this means a lot more Galaxy smartphones planned for release in 2022 could be powered by Exynos chipsets. And with AMD now being a Samsung partner in chip development, this transition could work very well in the favor of customers. Then again, we don’t know exactly how these new-gen Exynos chipsets will perform, so time will tell if a higher adoption rate will be favorable.

At the same time, Samsung reportedly aims to increase its Galaxy smartphone shipments by roughly 50-60 million next year and reach around 320 million shipments. It remains to be seen if this will be possible given the global semiconductor shortage.

September 2021 security update is now live for Galaxy A51 5G

Samsung dropped the September 2021 security patch onto the Galaxy A51 last week, and now the company is bringing a similar firmware update to the international 5G-enabled model.

The September 2021 security patch is now available for the Galaxy A51 5G in dozens of markets and across different carriers. They’re too many to be listed here, but as always, you can refer to our firmware database, where you can not only check if your phone runs the latest firmware version but also download new updates that you can then install manually on your phone.

For the most part, it looks like the latest update is rolling out for the Galaxy A51 5G in European countries. Other markets shouldn’t be far behind, so keep an eye on your notifications. You can also attempt to trigger the update process from the Settings app on your phone by accessing Software update.

As for the new firmware, it can be identified by version A516BXXU5CU3. The September security patch was detailed by Samsung a little over a month ago, but the latest firmware number indicates that the update could contain more than just improved security. Features pulled from One UI 3.1.1 — such as the Bedtime mode toggle — could be included in the new update.

Galaxy Tab A7 budget tablet gets even cheaper with limited-time deal

The Galaxy Tab A7 is one of Samsung’s most affordable tablets geared for multimedia content consumption. It usually costs $229 and $279 depending on storage options, but Samsung and Amazon are presently selling the budget tablet at an even lower price through a limited-time 22% discount.

With this new deal, the 32GB Galaxy Tab A7 with a 10.4-inch display costs $179, and the 64GB model costs $219 — lower than the 32GB model at full price.

The deal is available at Samsung USA and Amazon, but the former allows customers to lower the price even further by trading in an older device. With an eligible trade-in, the 32GB and 64GB Galaxy Tab A7 variants cost as low as $79 and $119, respectively.

Large screen, metal build, good battery life and more, on a budget

The Galaxy Tab A7 isn’t the most powerful tablet out there, and general performance is relatively mediocre due to it having only 3GB of RAM. On the bright side, the metal build is more premium than it should rightfully be at this price point, and the large display — combined with the excellent stereo speakers — makes for a good multimedia experience.

The tablet doesn’t ship with a fast charger, though it supports 15W exclusively through Samsung’s charger. Battery life is enough to allow you to enjoy content away from a power source for up to 12 hours of mixed usage — watching YouTube and Netflix, gaming, and browsing the web.

If you’re unsure if the Galaxy Tab A7 can deliver a good enough experience for the price, you might be able to learn more about it from our experience using it, so check the review below.

Controversial Galaxy S22 Ultra camera gets beautified in new concept renders

The unannounced Galaxy S22 Ultra has been making the rounds for a few weeks after the first unofficial renders leaked. They were seemingly based on leaked official specifications and depicted a Galaxy S22 Ultra featuring an Infinity-O display, a dedicated S Pen slot, and a protruding P-shaped camera module. That last design detail is a point of contention, as most people agree it doesn’t look too pretty, especially compared to the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s camera housing.

However, the first leaked renders may have not been entirely accurate, as even the source — OnLeaks — admitted at one point that the finer details surrounding the P-shaped camera are fuzzy. See, the outline of the camera housing is what every source is almost certain of, presumably based on data gathered from case manufacturers. But the arrangement inside that P-shaped cutout is not very clear.

Two design possibilities have been explored by fans and leakers so far. In the original vision, the main cameras are enclosed in a single P-shaped housing. In later concepts, the camera housing got split.

Neither design looked pretty, but the split camera housing seems to be more agreeable. Even more so now that Technizo Concept (via LetsGoDigital) refined the split camera housing design even further.

A refreshed Galaxy Note 10+ design

The latest Galaxy S22 Ultra fan concept seemingly attempts to refine the unusual camera housing by going back in Samsung’s timeline even further. The concept seems to resemble a refined Galaxy Note 10+ for this day and age, featuring a similar — but slightly more prominent — camera housing design and sensor arrangement.

The design seems to fit the P-shape outline adopted by the majority of third-party cases that leaked so far, but it doesn’t look nearly as industrial as it did in the first renders. It looks like an evolution of the Galaxy Note 10 series, and it fits the phone’s overall design and proportions better.

Check out the fan-made Galaxy S22 Ultra trailer below for a closer look at this refined design, and leave a comment below or on our social media networks. Let us know which concept you like the most so far.

Samsung’s still on track for a stable Android 12 / One UI 4 release in 2021

Samsung recently began rolling out the second Android 12-based One UI 4.0 beta firmware for the Galaxy S21 series, but the company hasn’t settled on a launch date for the first public build yet. How could it have?! The point of the beta program is to test the software and fix potential issues, and a developer can never be too sure how much time it will need to polish the firmware enough for a public release. However, with the second One UI 4.0 beta firmware now out for the Galaxy S21 series, the company seems to have gained more confidence in its launch schedule — enough for a Samsung Community moderator to reiterate that an Android 12 (One UI 4.0) release could be happening by December.

The Samsung Community moderator in question revealed that Samsung is working with Korean telecom operators to bring Android 12 and One UI 4.0 this year. And, to be fair, a potential 2021 stable release for One UI 4.0 isn’t surprising, as both Samsung and Google already said that they aim to launch the firmware before 2022. But now, one Community moderator seemingly said One UI 4.0 could land “by December,” which technically means before December 1 — assuming the finer details weren’t lost in translation.

Could stable Android 12 and One UI 4.0 be released in November?

Samsung might aim to release stable Android 12 and One UI 4.0 for the Galaxy S21 before December, but as the moderator said, it’s difficult to give a clear answer. The development process is unpredictable and unforeseen issues can push back a planned launch.

But the takeaway is that, following the second One UI 4.0 beta firmware for the Galaxy S21 series, Samsung seemingly remains on track for a stable release in 2021 – regardless of whether it’ll take place before or after November 30. So far, all things seem to be going according to plan, and that’s good news for beta testers and Galaxy S21 owners who may be waiting for the live build.

We’ll keep you up to speed with every development surrounding Samsung, Android 12, and One UI 4.0, so stay tuned and don’t forget about our social media channels.

Galaxy S21 FE launch now rumored for Samsung’s October 20 event

Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event for October 20. The press release for the event was a little light on the details. It suggested that perhaps new colors or customization options for existing products might be unveiled. There’s also the possibility of a Galaxy Z Flip 3 BTS Edition.

There was nothing in the press release about the long-awaited Galaxy S21 FE. Samsung hasn’t officially talked about this device yet. Now, a new rumor from South Korea claims that the October 20 event is actually going to bring us the Galaxy S21 FE launch.

Galaxy S21 FE launch now rumored on October 20

The Galaxy S21 FE was previously expected to be launched in August. Samsung reportedly delayed it due to the chip shortage. Some believe that the Galaxy S21 FE was delayed so that Samsung could make more of its foldable smartphones.

The latest rumor out of South Korea claims that the Galaxy S21 FE will be unveiled on October 20. Pre-orders are said to start the same day. Samsung will then release the Galaxy S21 FE on October 29. It’s also claimed that Samsung has already shipped official accessories for the device to its retail and carrier partners.

There’s little evidence to support this rumor at this point in time. From what we understand, the Galaxy S21 FE launch is likely in January 2022. Samsung may give the device a rather quiet launch before it unveils the Galaxy S22 series in February.

Only Samsung knows what’s really up with the Galaxy S21 FE. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing conflicting information about the device. Do you think it may be launched on October 20? Let us know in the comments below.

Samsung’s new 980 Pro SSD for the PS5 will run a lot cooler

Samsung had launched its first PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, the 980 PRO, last year. Apart from regular laptops and PCs, the SSD can also be used to expand Sony PS5’s storage space. It was revealed last month that the South Korean firm would launch a special variant of the 980 PRO SSD for the PlayStation 5, and the company has finally launched it.

Samsung has launched a new version of the 980 Pro SSD model specifically made to be used with the PS5. While its storage speed and capacity is still the same compared to the regular 980 PRO, it comes with a redesigned heat sink that fits inside the M.2 SSD storage expansion slot inside the gaming console.

The heat sink is designed to keep temperatures low while still offering sequential read speeds of up to 7,000MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 5,100MB/s. This is way faster than Sony’s recommended read speeds of 5,500MB/s. While console gamers can use third-party heat sinks, getting it bundled with the SSD makes it easier for users to buy and install it inside their PS5.

The 1TB version of this new SSD model is priced at $249.99 in the US, while the 2TB model costs $449.99. It will go on sale starting October 29, 2021.

Apple can’t be happy about Samsung’s chip troubles anymore

The global chip shortage has not spared any company. Samsung has had to make some sacrifices this year because of it. The company ditched the Galaxy Note lineup and hasn’t even launched the Galaxy S21 FE yet.

Samsung did all this just so it could have enough chips for its foldable smartphones. Apple might have been happy about Samsung not being able to launch some of its most sought after models. However, it now has some chip troubles of its own.

The chip shortage has caught up with Apple

Securing enough mobile processors has been a problem for Samsung. That’s the reason it gave for not launching a new Galaxy Note lineup this year. Now there’s high demand for the new foldable smartphones.

Samsung has delayed the Galaxy S21 FE so that it can use all available chips for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. Despite doing that the company is still not being able to meet the demand for the foldables due to the shortage.

Since Apple reserved production capacity at TSMC far in advance, it hasn’t faced any issues with the availability of its mobile processors. However, the company is now finding it hard to secure other chip components.

Bloomberg reports that Apple has cut its production target for the iPhone 13. The company had planned to make 90 million iPhones in Q4 2021. That number has now been cut by 10 million units as chip supplies from Broadcom and Texas Instruments are under pressure.

The chips that Apple buys from Broadcom and Texas Instruments handle various key functions such as display power management, USB connectivity, wireless power and even Face ID’s laser array. So even if it has enough A15 Bionic SoCs, if it doesn’t get enough of the other chips it can’t make as many iPhones as it wanted to.

Apple is far from the only company that’s having to reduce its planned production numbers due to the chip shortage. It just goes to show that in these uncertain times, you can’t really be too happy about your competitor’s misfortunes.

WhatsApp will soon let you determine the contents of your chat backup

Despite the backlash that it received due to its controversial privacy policy, WhatsApp continues to dominate the instant messaging space. Its ability to back up chats to Google Drive/iCloud can come in handy while switching devices. A future version of WhatsApp will let you set a limit on your backup size.

WABetaInfo stumbled upon the feature in WhatsApp version 2.21.21.7 for Android. The new ‘Manage Chat Backup’ button will let you determine how large you want your Google Drive backup to be. It also lets you determine the parts to back up, allowing you to cut out heavy bits like videos and keep pictures, documents, etc.

WhatsApp’ decision to test the feature might seem random, but there could be some method to the madness. Currently, WhatsApp backups do not count against your Google Drive storage quota, but that could change in the future, where anything over 2GB will be counted. The new feature could begin rolling out at about the same time, allowing users to conserve their precious storage.

As mentioned earlier, the ability to manage your backup sizes on WhatsApp for Android is still under testing. There is no telling when regular users will be able to access it. However, we can expect it to debut on Android and iOS together, as the feature would come in handy to Apple users as well. We’d like to see multi-device support roll out first, though.

Samsung updates Odyssey G5 gaming monitor with a 32-inch panel

Samsung has launched a new version of the Odyssey G5 gaming monitor. It is an incremental upgrade over its predecessor and offers a significantly larger 32-inch screen. The remaining Samsung Odyssey G5 specs are identical to that of its predecessor.

The 32-inch IPS LCD panel on the Samsung Odyssey G5 has a QHD (2,560 x 1,400) resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and a peak brightness of 400 nits. Other features include a 1ms response time, a refresh rate of 165Hz, 99% coverage of the sRGB colour gamut, and VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification.

Additionally, the Samsung Odyssey G5 is also compatible with Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium. Input options include one DisplayPort 1.2 port, one HDMI 2.0 port, one USB Type-A port and one 3.5mm audio jack.

There appears to be only one colour variant of the Samsung Odyssey G5, namely black. It measures 14.6 x 602.9 x 311.1 mm with the stand and weighs 7.5 kg. The included stand allows for pivot and swivel motion, allowing the monitor to be used in both portrait and landscape orientations.

Samsung is yet to reveal the price and availability of the Odyssey G5 gaming monitor. If its predecessor is anything to go by, we can expect it to cost around the $600 mark, although this variant could be priced a bit higher due to the larger panel size. We should find out soon enough on Samsung’s official listing for the Odyssey G5.

Is Samsung coming out with an exclusive Galaxy Z Flip 3 for BTS fans?

Samsung often teams up with South Korea’s biggest Kpop group BTS to promote its products. The company is now teasing another potential collaboration. It appears that Samsung might have an exclusive Galaxy Z Flip 3 version in the works for BTS fans.

We’ve seen the company do this before. It launched the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition and even the Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition last year. So why shouldn’t it do something similar for the Galaxy Z Flip 3?

Galaxy Z Flip 3 BTS Edition could be coming

In a tweet sent out through its official account, Samsung says that we still need to talk about “#GalaxyxBTS,” hinting at a potential collaboration between the two for the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

The tweet directs includes a link to the press release sent out earlier today for the Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event. No details about this event have been revealed so far. The press release mentions that Samsung will be “opening up new experiences for self-expression through technology.”

The Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event will be live streamed on the company’s YouTube channel starting at 10 a.m. ET on October 20. Don’t expect to see any brand new devices at this event. There might be new colorways or additional content related to this BTS collaboration.

It’s no surprise that Samsung has chosen South Korea’s top Kpop group to advertise the Galaxy Z Flip 3. This is already Samsung’s best-selling foldable smartphone. The company has already sold over half a million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in South Korea alone. The younger demographic has bought the bulk of those devices.

By tapping into the immense power of BTS, Samsung can further entice younger customers to pick up its latest foldable smartphone. If it can make enough of them to meet the demand is another question entirely.

[Sponsored] Your phone got issues? Fixing them doesn’t need to be difficult

We rely on our phones now more than ever before. Android is the preferred platform for countless people across the globe. Samsung certainly makes some of the best Android phones on the market. Even if you’ve been using them for years, chances are that you can often run into issues with your Android device.

Figuring out a way to fix them can often prove to be difficult, particularly if you’re not used to tinkering with the software on your devices. It’s also not that uncommon for your device to develop an issue.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a hardware problem. Some of you might even run into issues when trying to unlock your phone, particularly if you’re prone to forgetting passwords or lock patterns. Perhaps you’re changing phones and you’d like to transfer your WhatsApp chats. Everyone knows that it’s something very difficult to do.

Many users also run into problems when transferring files, photos, videos, documents and more from one smartphone to another or from their phone to a PC. A tool that does all of that with just one click would be very useful indeed.

Maybe you ended up deleting something by mistake and you really need it back. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a data recovery tool that could possibly bring back deleted files? Or you might want to delete something permanently so that it’s not recoverable?

So whether you spend countless hours searching how to unlock Android phone online or watch through hours of videos on YouTube to find a solution to the problems mentioned above, there needs to be a simpler solution to address all of these issues.

Fortunately, there is, and it’s called Dr.Fone.

Dr.Fone is an all-in-one toolkit from Wondershare for users that require a simpler solution to fix many of the common issues that they face with their Android smartphones. The array of effective tools provided by Dr.Fone can be utilized by even those users who have little or no technical knowledge to fix different mobile device issues.

One can never be too safe online in this day and age. Wondershare recognizes that and it values user privacy as much as they themselves do. All user data is encrypted to ensure no vulnerabilities can be exploited to compromise their sensitive information.
The Dr.Fone toolkit has long been used by people across the globe to easily fix problems faced by their devices. Wondershare has now released the new version 12 of this toolkit and it brings even more useful features.

Android data recovery has been one of the core features of this toolkit. It enables you to recover deleted or lost photos, text messages, contacts, music, videos, documents and more. With version 12, Dr.Fone has even made it possible to recover deleted WhatsApp messages.

This new feature is going to impact the lives of countless people across the globe. WhatsApp is the world’s most popular cross-platform messaging app. Given the sheer number of people that use it, quite a lot of them often find themselves in a position where they need to recover deleted messages from their WhatsApp chats.

That’s easier said than done, particularly if you haven’t set WhatsApp to backup locally or to the cloud. With Dr.Fone, it’s actually possible to recover deleted WhatsApp messages and attachments.

It can often be challenging to transfer files between your Android device and computer. There’s just so much to move and the default solutions don’t seem to be intuitive to easy enough to use. It’s not just supported for Windows PC. If you’d like to transfer data from your Android phone to a Mac, Dr.Fone can help with that as well.

With the toolkit, this becomes extremely simple and it even becomes possible to manage media on your Android device using a PC, such as adding or deleting media. For those who require format conversion for their phones, it even provides the ability to convert HEIC photos to JPG without any quality loss.

Changing phones? You don’t have to worry about losing your WhatsApp data when you do. The toolkit also makes it possible to easily transfer, backup and restore all of your WhatsApp chats and media on the new device effortlessly.

Version 12 of the Dr.Fone full toolkit provides additional value to users. It includes powerful features that even allow you to move data between platforms. The data recovery tool makes it possible to restore lost and deleted data from broken Android devices.

There are a number of ways due to which data on your Android phone could be lost. The most common is accidental deletion, you wanted to delete something else and you ended up deleting something else entirely. All is not lost, though, as it’s possible to recover the deleted files. It could also be that your phone suffered water damage.

That can be fatal for most Android phones these days. So even if your phone died due to being submerged in water, chances are you can restore its data with this toolkit. Even accidental damage from drops or shocks to the device could cause it to lose data.

This is just part of the reality of using our phones day in and day out. They have to put up with the rigours of our daily lives and it’s not uncommon for them to fail when they reach the breaking point.

Phone manager makes it possible to transfer contacts, text messages, music, video, photos and more between devices. The phone transfer tool enables one-click data transfer between any two devices. This doesn’t just work for Android to Android, it even works for Android to iOS transfers.

WhatsApp transfer between different platforms has also remained an elusive idea for users. Dr.Fone makes this possible as well by enabling you to take all of your WhatsApp chats and media from Android to an iOS device.

Those who have a habit of forgetting their phone’s password or passcode will also find this toolkit’s screen unlock functionality to be quite useful. It can remove pattern lock, PIN, password and fingerprint screen lock types.

The great thing about it is that it doesn’t require users to have technical knowledge. With just a few clicks, users can easily remove the screen lock from their devices and regain access. Gone are the days when you have to buy a new phone just because you couldn’t remember how to unlock the one you already have.

Lastly, Wondershare has also updated the user interface of Dr.Fone to be more clean and modern. The entire focus with the UI redesign has been to simplify things further for users so that regardless of their technical know-how, they can immediately understand everything that they can do with this toolkit the moment they launch it for the first time.

The great variety of features that it offers makes Dr.Fone such an outstanding tool. You no longer have to imagine what it would be like having a tool that can handle everything from WhatsApp and data transfers to making a backup of your phone and fixing common issues with it to even helping you remove the screen lock should you forget the password. Dr.Fone does it all.

Seemingly harmless ads are installing secret apps on your Galaxy phone

Many Android smartphones already suffer from bloatware apps, unwanted notifications, and ads inside stock apps (even from Samsung). Some apps even show full-screen ads on the home screen and the lock screen. Now, it has been revealed that some seemingly harmless ads can secretly install apps on your Galaxy smartphone.

A detailed thread on Reddit explains that some ads currently appearing on Android smartphones can install apps without any user intervention. They can even bypass the Play Store and other security measures included in Android. Essentially, these ads look like any other app listing on the Play Store, and even when you try to close the ad, it installs the app in the background anyway.

Scummy Ad Malware Android Smartphones Appreciate Digital Turbine Ignite

Some digging reveals that this is being accomplished by a system service called Appreciate (by Digital Turbine) that comes pre-installed on smartphones. Some carriers and Android OEMs use this service, and ads or apps promoted by this service are served directly from Digital Turbine’s servers. This behavior can essentially be seen as malware. The company even owns a patent for this functionality.

A few years ago, carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon used to pre-install Digital Turbine’s DT Ignite app on some Android smartphones along with the usual bloatware. But now, the service has gone too far and is installing apps without any user intervention. The company says that the app isn’t supposed to install apps if the user closes or dismisses the promotional pop-up window.

One of the apps called Weather Home installed by Digital Turbine reportedly tries to replace app launchers, runs intrusive ads, and consumes a lot of battery in the background. Digital Turbine says that it double-checks all the apps it promotes before and after the installation. The company will reportedly issue a statement on this controversy, but that doesn’t make any of this right.
