The Galaxy A10e has arrived in the US through AT&T

The Galaxy A10e has officially launched in the US through AT&T. The smartphone popped up on the carrier’s website today, and it can be acquired off-contract for $209. Alternatively, prospective buyers can choose an installment plan with 30 monthly payments of $7/month.

The phone’s full price at AT&T is a bit higher compared to the original US MSPR of $179 which was revealed by Samsung last month. On the other hand, AT&T is sweetening the installment plan with a limited-time special offer which gives prospective buyers the option to acquire the phone for only $1/month.

Galaxy A10e specifications

Given its moniker, there should be no mystery that the Galaxy A10e is a low-end budget smartphone. It’s a smaller spinoff of the Galaxy A10, having been equipped with a 5.83-inch Infinity-V display with a pixel count of 1,560 by 720. It comes with an Exynos 7884B octa-core chipset clocked at up to 1.6GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage expandable via microSD by up to 512GB.

The smartphone runs Android 9 Pie so users will experience One UI out of the box. In the media department, the Galaxy A10e has an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with FHD video recording capabilities, as well as an HDR-enabled 5-megapixel front-facing sensor with an f/1.9 aperture.

The package relies on a 3,000mAh battery, so it is considerably smaller than the Galaxy A10’s 3,400mAh unit. For now, the Galaxy A10e is offered by AT&T only in Charcoal Black and it’s unclear whether additional color options will be added to the palette later down the line.

[Poll] Do you like that silver Galaxy Note 10 with blue S Pen and bright gradients?

Gradient colors on smartphones are all too common these days, and Samsung adopted them for mid-range and budget devices last year before bringing gradient effects to its flagship lineup with the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+. The company is going to offer gradient colors with the Galaxy Note 10 as well, but as recently leaked renders show us, the gradient effect on at least one of the color variants won’t be as subtle as it is on the Galaxy S10 lineup.

The Galaxy Note 10 you see in the image below is apparently the silver color variant, although you wouldn’t be able to guess looking at the  device. The gradients seem to be similar to those seen on the Prism Silver Galaxy S10, only silver won’t be a limited color option for the Galaxy Note 10, as we had exclusively revealed a couple of months ago. While the gradient effects look pretty, some will bring up the fact that the silver Note 10 looks similar to some of Huawei’s smartphones, especially when you take the vertically laid out triple camera setup into account.

The S Pen accompanying the silver Note 10, meanwhile, is colored a dark blue. Last year, the blue Galaxy Note 9 came with a yellow S Pen, and that turned out to be pretty polarizing. It’s not that everyone had an issue with a brightly colored S Pen. It was Samsung’s choice of color for the stylus that turned off many people, but the dark blue S Pen with the silver Note 10 and Note 10+ will probably get a more positive response.

And we’d love to see what you, our readers, think about the funky gradient effect on the silver Galaxy Note 10 and that blue S Pen. We know your opinions might change when you see the device and S Pen in real life, but do you like them based on what you see in the picture above? Go ahead and vote in the poll, then let us know your thoughts in more detail down in the comments section!

I hope the Galaxy Note 10+ gets a 256GB variant worldwide

Everyone knows the Galaxy Note 10+ is going to be costly. The regular Galaxy Note 10 is expected to be priced at $999/€999, the same as the Galaxy S10+, which was the most feature-packed model in the Galaxy S10 lineup. The Note 10+, meanwhile, will cost somewhere between $1149 and $1199 for the base variant going by all the rumors.

Naturally, the price will only climb for the variants with higher internal storage. And after seeing the pricing tiers for the Galaxy S10+, I’m hoping Samsung has a 256GB storage configuration available for the Galaxy Note 10+ worldwide.

Why? Hint: It has something to do with money

I talk about the Note 10+ because it’s no doubt going to be the more popular of the two Note 10s. The base variant for the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ in European markets like Germany will reportedly have 256GB of storage, but Samsung probably isn’t going to offer the same courtesy to consumers in every country. And while it would be unfair to those consumers if they have to make do with 128GB of storage on the base variant, it would be even worse if the next storage configuration available to them is 512GB.

The reason for that is simple: Having no 256GB variant would mean there would be a considerable premium that customers have to pay if they don’t want the base variant with 128GB storage. The 512GB versions of the Galaxy S10 and S10+ had a $250 premium over the 128GB models, and that took the price of the 512GB S10+ up to $1249.

256GB variant will offer enough storage at a more palatable price

Perhaps the price difference wouldn’t have been so high if Samsung hadn’t insisted on equipping the 512GB Galaxy S10+ with a ceramic back. But it did, and what we got were some insane prices. More importantly, there was no middle ground for those who needed more than 128GB of internal storage but thought 512GB would be overkill (yes, 512GB can be overkill, especially if you use a microSD card for expanding your phone’s storage).

And since the Galaxy Note 10+ is already expected to cost anywhere from $150-$200 more than a Galaxy S10+, one can only imagine what price tag Samsung will attach to the 512GB model. If we consider the best case scenario, the 512GB variant would be priced at $1399. That is a lot of money, and that is why I’m hoping Samsung has the decency of selling the Note 10+’s 256GB configuration worldwide.

Cocktail Orange Galaxy M40 to launch exclusively on Amazon Prime Day

The Galaxy M40 will be available in the Cocktail Orange color option for a short period of time during Amazon Prime Day. The color is not entirely new as it has been an option for the Galaxy A60, but in the case of the Galaxy M40, the flavor will be available only for a limited time on July 15.

As of now, it looks like the Cocktail Orange Galaxy M40 will only be launched on Amazon Prime Day (July 15th-16th) in India, although the device isn’t available in a lot of markets in the first place. As a Prime Day exclusive, it will be available only to Amazon Prime members, so if you’re not one of them then you’re out of luck. Or are you?

An exclusive color still doesn’t make it a better proposition than the Galaxy A50

The Cocktail Orange Galaxy M40 comes with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and will launch for Rs. 19,990 ($291). On the other hand, the Galaxy A50 with the same amount of RAM and half the storage size costs Rs. 21,490 ($313) at the time of this writing, while the 4GB model costs less than the M40 – by Rs. 1,500 ($21).

Much like we’ve detailed in our Galaxy M40 review, we still think that it’s probably better to skip this model and go for the Galaxy A50 instead. Granted, the Galaxy M40 comes with a slightly better chipset and more storage, but it has other shortcomings which simply shine a brighter light on the Galaxy A50 in comparison. To start with, the latter has a larger battery and is equipped with a Super AMOLED display instead of an LCD. It also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is probably an in-demand feature for a budget device, more so than a flagship.

All in all, the Cocktail Orange Galaxy M40 is a bit of an exclusive since it’s apparently going to be available only during Amazon Prime Day in India. You could argue that some value will be added to the device due to it being quite a rarity, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But if none of this interests you then the Galaxy A50 remains the better choice.

Galaxy A9 (2018) and the Galaxy J7 Pro get the July security update

Samsung is expanding the rollout of the latest monthly security update to more devices. The Galaxy A9 (2018) and the Galaxy J7 Pro are the latest devices to receive the July 2019 security patch. This month’s security patch contains fixes for over a dozen vulnerabilities found in Android OS as well as Samsung’s own software. You can check this detailed report to see what has been fixed.

More devices get the July security patch

Samsung has just began rolling out a new update to the Galaxy A9 (2018) in Poland, Italy, and a few other markets. The update bumps the software version to A920FXXU2BSFB, although it may vary from region to region. In addition to the latest security patch, the update also improves camera stability and introduces the Digital Wellbeing feature to the device.

The Galaxy J7 Pro is also getting the latest security update in a number of countries. The new software version is J730GDXU6CSF5, but as said earlier, it may vary from region to region. We don’t have a changelog as yet, so we are not sure if this update adds any new features or simply introduces the July security patch. The J7 Pro got the Android Pie update last month.

To grab the new update over the air on your A9 (2018) or J7 Pro, open the phone’s Settings app, select Software update, then tap Download and install. Alternatively, you can download the full firmware from our database (Galaxy A9 | Galaxy J7 Pro) and upgrade using a Windows PC. Do note that OTA updates are released in stages and may not be available instantly on all devices.

Galaxy Note 10 could hit retail shelves on August 23

The Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ could go on sale worldwide on August 23, as suggested by a report from Yonhap. The report only talks about August 23 being the release date for South Korea, but for the last couple of years, Samsung has been putting its flagships up for sale in multiple countries around the world on the same day, and that’s likely to be the case for the Galaxy Note 10 as well. Pre-orders in South Korea will begin on August 9 according to local carriers.

Samsung will reportedly only launch the 5G variants of the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ in its home country. In fact, our sources tell us only South Korea will get a 5G-enabled version of the smaller Note 10. It makes sense, though. 5G adoption in the country has outpaced adoption of 4G – the 5G subscriber count passed the 1 million mark in early June and is expected to reach almost 5 million by the end of this year thanks to the launch of the 5G-enabled Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Note 10.

Pricing for the Note 10 and Note 10+ in South Korea is expected to start at around 1.2 million won (~$1,020) and 1.4 million (~$1190) won, which fits rumored pricing for the devices in other markets. It’s worth noting that other markets will get the LTE variants for those prices, so South Korean consumers will have a slight advantage. Thankfully, the 5G-enabled Galaxy Note 10+ is expected to be exactly the same as the LTE model in other departments, so the disparity won’t be as huge as it was between the Galaxy S10’s LTE and 5G variants.

Galaxy Note 10 price will reportedly start at 999 euro for 256GB variant

Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about the Galaxy Note 10 price yet but a new report provides some hints about it. Interestingly, it mentions that the base model will come with 256GB of storage, at least in Western Europe. That would be much appreciated by customers since they would get more bang for their buck.

The company won’t be confirming any pricing details before August 7. That’s when the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ are due to be unveiled in New York City.

Galaxy Note 10 price may start at 999 euro

Citing information from retailers, WinFuture reports that the Galaxy Note 10 price will start at 999 euro for the base model. This price tag would apply to most European countries which some slight variations based on local taxes and other charges.

It adds that the base model of the Galaxy Note 10+ will also have 256GB of internal storage. Customers who want more storage will be able to pay extra for 512GB and 1TB variants. We have exclusively confirmed yesterday that 1TB storage will indeed be available as an option for the upcoming flagship.

6.75-inch Galaxy Note 10+ will obviously be a bit more expensive. It will justify the higher price tag with a larger display, a more sophisticated camera system, a bigger battery, etc. It’s expected to start at 1149 euro for the base model. The 5G variant will obviously cost a bit more.

It will be good to see the Galaxy Note 10 being launched with 256GB of internal storage. Samsung offered the base Galaxy S10+ with 128GB for 999 euro. Galaxy Note 10 customers will get double that for the same price. Do keep in mind that Samsung may also offer the base model with 128GB in some markets.

We’ll only get to know these details for sure once Samsung unveils the Galaxy Note 10 on August 7.
