Samsung reportedly pledged $50 million to have James Bond use its smartphones in Spectre

Samsung isn’t shy of spending an insane amount of money when it comes to marketing and promotion, it’s tendency to spend so much is often attributed to the rise in popularity of its smartphones against rivals in the market. Only recently it was reported that the company has inked a promotion deal for Rihanna’s upcoming album and world tour to the tune of $25 million and now it has been revealed that the company even tried buying some screen time in the latest James Bond movie.

The Korean company is no stranger to the big screen, it’s partnership with Marvel has seen many Samsung devices get screen time in blockbuster movies, but to get its five seconds of fame in a Bond film the company would have had to take Sony’s place which has been a regular in the Bond films starring Daniel Craig. As the studio and Sony were negotiating a commitment worth $18 million Samsung reportedly tried to buy its way in with a $5 million fee just for its smartphones to appear in the movie aside from a $50 million budget meant purely for marketing purposes. Even though it was offering much more than Sony was it appears that actor Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond, and Spectre director Sam Mendes weren’t convinced that a Samsung phone is one that Bond would use because the secret agent “only uses the best.” It’s reported that this same objection was raised by the duo with regards to the Sony Xperia Z4, the handset that Sony was trying to get Bond to use in the new movie. Spectre arrives November 6 and only then will we really find out what Bond’s preferred smartphone brand is.

Samsung Z3 source code released. Check it out!

Tizen developers should be interested to hear that Samsung has released the source code for the Tizen Z3 (Z300HDDU0AOJ4), which reveals all the internals of the device’s software. In a world with growing privacy concerns, this is very good as it allows a developer to take a look at what exactly happens behind the closed doors in the Tizen OS.

This move will help developers in releasing more apps, putting aside the fact that Samsung is also offering 100 percent of their app revenue to developers. It looks like Tizen is truly gaining traction as Samsung declares that its OS is the 2nd largest smartphone operating system in the budget segment in India.

It’s important that Samsung keeps an open source approach to things, and this is a good step forward. If you plan on downloading the source code then prepare for a hefty download as all the files weigh in at about 1.8GB.

Make music on your phone with Samsung’s Soundcamp app

Samsung’s Soundcamp app is by far one of the most high quality music making apps that currently available on the Google Play Store with over 10,000 installs. We saw the app being used during IFA 2015 in order to perform ‘Over the horizon’ with the Soundcamp Looper, and it’s an extremely useful app for DJs. You can basically compose, mix, and spin straight off your Samsung device. You also get access to various virtual instruments like drums or keyboards, along with a huge library of built-in sound effects.

The app has a high level of complexity, offering you a Multitrack View for recording up to eight tracks in MIDI or stereo audio, and you also have the MIDI Editor View which is pretty straight forward, allowing you to edit MIDI. Finally, you have the Mixer View which is like the mixing console in all the big recording studios, so the bottom line is that you get the power of creating music straight to your fingertips. Samsung also has a neat little tool called The Sampler, which lets its users import, play and record any sound into a custom instrument.

Check out the two video demonstrating the usefulness of the Samsung Soundcamp app and get it using the button below.

Samsung in talks with Sony for new Galaxy S7 camera sensor

The Galaxy S7 might get the camera sensor featured on the Sony Xperia Z5, as Samsung is currently in talks with the Japanese tech company. The IMX300 sensor is a very important piece which apparently impressed Samsung, and if things go right we might see it on the Galaxy S7 next January, when it is rumored to be launching. DxOMark puts the IMX300 among the top camera sensors, claiming that it’s the best they’ve ever tested which says a lot. Sony’s initial plans were to keep this camera sensor exclusive to the Xperia line but Samsung is negotiating for it right now and they might strike a hard bargain.

Should Sony accept the deal it will be pretty profitable for them because the Galaxy S7 will probably sell millions of units. There’s a lot to be said about the IMX300 in terms of specifications, but word has it that the camera sensor has a 25-megapixel and a 192-point hybrid autofocus system, which turned out to be brilliant on the Xperia Z5 with a focusing time of 0.03 seconds.

Samsung Z3 tipped to launch in 11 countries in Europe

We exclusively confirmed that Samsung’s new Tizen smartphone, the Z3, would bring the company’s mobile OS to the European region, breaking its exclusivity to Asian markets like India, Bangladesh and Nepal. Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed anything, but the folks over at Tizen Experts are now shedding more light on the Z3′s launch in Europe.

According to the site, the Z3 is being tested for 11 countries in the region: the UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, and Kazakhstan. That’s a mix of both major and not-so-major markets; there’s no word on an actual launch date yet, but we suppose the phone will go on sale in at least some of the aforementioned markets before the end of this year.

With the kind of reception the Samsung Z1 saw in terms of sales, Samsung has every reason to be making the Z3 available to as many consumers as possible, though the device’s low-end nature might not make it an attractive option for people in markets like the UK and Germany. The app gap on Tizen is still a huge issue, but recent developments have suggested that the OS might be getting some attention from developers, with a native Facebook app now available and a VLC app in the works.

Would you be interested in buying the Samsung Z3 if it launched in your country, or would you prefer to opt for a device running Android? Let us know in the comments below.

Samsung sends out invite for Indian event, could launch the Galaxy On series

Samsung is holding an event in the Indian capital of New Delhi tomorrow, and the company has sent us an invite that doesn’t say what it is going to launch. The invite does confirm that we will see the launch of a new smartphone, and Samsung is likely to announce the Galaxy On series, which went official in China late last month.

The Galaxy On lineup has been making multiple appearances online in recent weeks, with the Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7 the two smartphones that will lead the lineup’s debut. Both are budget smartphones with specifications similar to existing devices in Samsung’s repertoire, and the event should give us an answer to the question we’ve been repeatedly asking: Why exactly does the Galaxy On series exist?
