Exclusive: Galaxy S10 colors, fingerprint sensor and Galaxy F foldable phone details

We can confirm some details about the Galaxy S10 colors, the much-rumored fingerprint sensor and Samsung’s long-awaited foldable phone. The Galaxy S10 is expected to arrive in February 2019. Its separate 5G variant might show up the following month with the foldable smartphone.

It has already been reported multiple times that Samsung will offer three models of the Galaxy S10. The entry-level with model number SM-G970x and the two premium options with model numbers SM-G973x and SM-G975x.

Details about the Galaxy S10 colors, fingerprint sensor and Galaxy F

We can confirm that the Galaxy S10 will be available in Black, White, Yellow and Green colors. As you’d expect, not all color options will be offered in every market. Nevertheless, these will be the four color options that the Galaxy S10 launches with. Yes, some of them may be gradient colors. Samsung has a habit of offering more options a few months down the road so that may very well happen for the Galaxy S10. The company will offer LED Flip and Protective covers for the device.

Moving on from the Galaxy S10 colors, it’s also going to be Samsung’s first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. We have already confirmed exclusively that the cheapest Galaxy S10 model will have 64GB of internal storage. The same model misses out on the in-display fingerprint sensor.

The SM-G973x and SM-G975x will feature a 5.8-inch and 6.44-inch display respectively. Both of the premium models will have an in-display fingerprint sensor. The SM-G970x also has a 5.8-inch display but it won’t have this component. It makes sense since Samsung wants to price the entry-level model competitively. It has to skimp on certain components to keep the cost down.

We can also exclusively reveal some information about the Galaxy F foldable smartphone. Model number SM-F900U will be available with 512GB of internal storage. We have already revealed the European and Asian variants of this device – SM-F900F and SM-F900N – respectively. Samsung will be rolling out this device worldwide and it will be available in Silver and Black colors.

It’s unclear if the update also comes with other notable changes or new features. With Oreo having released just a couple of months back, the update may iron out some bugs and issues and make the phone more stable, along with enhancing security.

The Galaxy J5 (2017) November update can be downloaded by going into the Software update section of the phone’s Settings app. The latest software is also available for download from our firmware database and should be rolling out over Samsung Smart Switch as well.

[Poll] Which of these audio brands are the best known in your country?

Brand value goes a long way in any industry and it’s something that audiophiles (people who appreciate high-end audio products) are very particular about. Audio brands tend to enjoy strong loyalty from their customers. They continue to innovate and offer new products so that customers keep coming back for more.

It’s not uncommon for smartphone manufacturers to link up with popular camera and audio brands. They’re two features that can really get people to spend that extra bit of money on a smartphone. HTC had a longstanding partnership with Beats and its high-end smartphones boasted the latter’s logo as a testament to the devices’ audio capabilities. Nokia’s cameras used Zeiss optics while Huawei is leveraging Leica’s brand recognition to hype up the camera capabilities of its flagship devices.

Samsung has been doing something similar. “AKG tuned” audio is now a staple on its flagship smartphones and tablets since the past couple of years. They also ship with AKG-branded earphones out of the box. There are other brands that Samsung could have used for this purpose as well which are perhaps more recognizable than AKG. One example that comes to mind is of JBL.

So the question is, which of the following audio brands are the best known in your country? All of them are owned by Harman International which is a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. Vote below and let us know your thoughts about these audio brands in the comments below.

Samsung’s mobile chief pins hope on the Galaxy S10 and the foldable phone

Even as Samsung continues to post impressive earnings quarter after quarter, the company’s smartphone business remains a cause of worry. Cut-throat competition from Chinese brands and Apple’s continued domination in the premium segment has left Samsung struggling to retain its market share and profits.

The company has undertaken many measures in the recent past to address the challenges in the smartphone market, but the results have been a let-down so far. Though the company has launched some excellent products this year, they failed to change Samsung’s declining fortunes in the smartphone market. According to a report in The Korea Herald, DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung Electronics’ mobile division, is now hoping the upcoming launch of the Galaxy S10 and the foldable phone will turnaround the company’s smartphone business.

All hopes on the Galaxy S10 and the foldable smartphone

The report quotes an internal corporate message from DJ Koh as saying, (he felt) “sorry about the currently struggling status of the Samsung smartphone business and will do my best to overcome the crisis with the upcoming Galaxy 10 and foldable phones.”  The message comes amidst rumours of year-end organisational restructuring posing a possible threat to his position.

The report also says that Samsung’s Vice Chairman, Lee Jae-yong, reportedly criticised Koh over the competitiveness of the company’s smartphones after a trip to a shop in Europe. While some insiders see these comments as a sign of growing worry about the company’s smartphone business and DJ Koh’s leadership, others mentioned in the report say the comments shouldn’t be overanalysed and blown-out of proportion.

Though we don’t know the exact date for the launch of the Galaxy S10 and the foldable phone yet, based on all the hints and previous launches, we can expect them to hit the market before the end of the first quarter next year. However, to fully analyse their impact on Samsung’s smartphone business, we may have to wait for the company’s Q2 earnings next year.

Here are some Galaxy S9 Android Pie and One UI beta screenshots

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ Android Pie beta program has officially begun in all the phase one countries. The beta has gone live in Germany today, and we now have it running on a couple of our Galaxy S9s. Many of our readers will not be able to get into the beta program, either because it is not available in their country or because the slots filled up. We have already seen Android Pie in action thanks to leaked firmware, and we now have screenshots from the first Pie beta for you to check out.

One UI is a dramatic change to how Samsung’s Android software looks and functions. There’s finally a built-in dark mode for the entire user interface to go along with the beautiful AMOLED displays on Galaxy smartphones. And it looks stunning on the Galaxy S9. There are, however, many elements of the UI and Samsung’s proprietary apps that aren’t dark just yet. Functionally, the interface is now designed to make it easier for one-handed usage and to offer the information you need most at a glance. The Galaxy S9 also gets some new features, such as Scene Optimizer for the camera and gesture navigation as an alternative for on-screen keys.

As the beta program progresses, Samsung is likely to keep iterating and modifying the UI and features. Check them out below, and let us know what you think of One UI!

Samsung Android Pie beta program finally goes live in Germany

The Samsung Android Pie beta program was supposed to launch on November 15 and it did, at least for South Korea and the United States. Germany was to get it as well in the first wave but it didn’t. The fact that Samsung’s support reps didn’t know what was going on only added to the confusion.

The wait is finally over for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ owners in Germany who were looking forward to the beta. The One UI (Android Pie) beta program is now live in Germany. They can sign up for it from the Samsung Members app. Slots are limited so be quick to snap one up before they run out. Once registered, you will be able to download the update from the Software update menu in the phone’s settings.

Samsung had named Germany has one of the markets due to receive the beta in the first phase. The United States and South Korea were the other two. When the beta rolled out there on November 15, the expectation was that Germany would get it on that day as well.

It did not. That’s despite the fact that its support reps had given out the November 15 date themselves on multiple occasions. We have already opined that it’s a shame Samsung’s support staff has no clue about the Android Pie beta which caused unnecessary confusion.

Samsung hasn’t said why there was a delay but at least it has confirmed that the beta is now available in Germany. The second wave will likely begin tomorrow. Samsung UK’s website confirmed that the beta will launch there on November 20. China, Poland, Spain, France and India are also in the second wave alongside the UK.

The Android Pie update update brings a variety of new features, including the new One UI visual interface. For the complete changelog for the first beta, do check out this post. Also, keep in mind that if you want to go back to Android Oreo after installing the beta, it won’t be possible without a data wipe.
