Samsung reveals more details about its BESPOKE Home 2021 event

Last month, Samsung announced that it would conduct a special launch event titled BESPOKE Home 2021 on May 11. While the company had not detailed what it will showcase during the event, it had mentioned that it will “unveil new experiences and a new way of living.” Today, the South Korean firm had revealed that it will launch new and improved home appliances at the event.

The company will expand its lineup of BESPOKE home appliances globally. It will also launch an “expansive range of new purposeful lifestyle appliances during the event.” BESPOKE is the name of Samsung’s high-end and customizable home appliances, including refrigerators, air purifiers, dishwashers, water purifiers, inductions, direct-fired ovens, and microwaves. Samsung said that it will also unveil a completely new range of lifestyle appliances during the event.

The appearance of Samsung’s new home appliances can be customized in terms of colors and materials, which means that customers can mix and match the looks to suit their home décor and lifestyle demands. The products will also be modular and have a flexible feature set such as a refrigerator with extremely adjustable shelves and temperature settings.

Bespoke Home 2021 Refrigerator

The company said that the response to its BESPOKE refrigerators has been tremendous. The 4-Door Flex, 1-Door Column, and Bottom-Mount Freezer (BMF) refrigerator models will be launched in the US later this year. The 1-Door Column and BMF models will be launched in Europe and other parts of the world in the second half of 2021. Samsung will also announce its partnership with leading designers during its upcoming event.

Samsung’s BESPOKE lineup of home appliances for 2021 will also be smarter, thanks to AI and SmartThings integration. Some refrigerators might also have giant screens that can control smart home products, order groceries online, and watch videos about new recipes. The devices would also be more durable and power-efficient so that consumers can reduce their carbon footprint.

You can watch the event live on Samsung.com, Samsung’s YouTube channel, and Samsung Newsroom on May 11 at 23:00 KST (10:00 EDT, 15:00 BST, 21:00 Thailand).

J.S. Lee, President and Head of Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “While the role of appliances hasn’t changed much over the past century, our home lifestyles have changed rapidly. Today’s homes are smarter, and our tastes in design are more diverse and sophisticated. We expect our appliances to reflect the way we live now. That’s why we created Bespoke —tailor-made to fit today’s more plugged-in needs and refined tastes.

How to get rid of Samsung Free?

Samsung Free is Samsung’s answer to news aggregator services, streaming services, and gaming services all in one. It gives you access to the daily news from a variety of sources, free viewing of a selection of TV channels, and simple interactive games that you can play instantly without having to download them beforehand, all from the home screen on your Galaxy phone or tablet.

While quick access to the free entertainment and information provided by Samsung Free — previously called Samsung Daily — can be useful, not everyone wants to use it or have it taking up the home screen on their phones or tablets. If you’re someone who falls in either of those camps and are wondering how you can get rid of Samsung Free, we’re here to help.

How to get rid of Samsung Free from your Galaxy device

Samsung Free is a stock app that comes installed on all Galaxy devices that run Android 11 out of the box, or were updated to One UI 3, so it can’t be uninstalled. However, disabling it from showing up on the home screen is a very simple process. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: On the home screen, long press on an empty portion of the screen or pinch the screen with two fingers.

Step 2: Swipe right to go to the Samsung Free page (you may have to swipe right a few times before you see the Samsung Free page).

Step 3: Here, simply tap the toggle button on top to disable Samsung Free.

Once disabled, you will no longer see the Samsung Free page show up when swiping to the leftmost home screen. Should you feel the need to use it again, follow the instructions above once again and use the toggle to enable it. If you use a Galaxy device that came preinstalled with Android 10 or older, you might have Samsung Daily instead of Samsung Free on the home screen, and you can disable/enable it using the same steps as detailed above.

If you own a Galaxy device launched in 2021, you should also be able to replace Samsung Free on the home screen with Google Discover. Google Discover doesn’t give you free TV channels or games, but it is arguably the best news aggregator service available on Android devices. Go here to see how you can switch between Samsung Free and Google Discover.

What is Samsung Free and why is it on my Galaxy device?

We’ve seen a lot of users asking what is Samsung Free and where did it come from, particularly after they update their device to One UI 3.0. It has quietly slipped under the radar. That’s why most people are taken by surprise when they find it for the first time on their device.

A lot of users tend to question the reason why it’s on their device in the first place. They’d also just rather have a way to get rid of it.

What is Samsung Free?

Samsung Free is a content aggregator service that provides access to news articles, live TV, podcasts and interactive games in one place. The content is made available free of charge to users. Samsung Free can be accessed by swiping left on the Home screen.

It has three tabs in which the content is sorted – Watch, Read and Play. Samsung Free actually replaces the Samsung Daily feed that used to reside in the leftmost Home screen on Galaxy devices. Samsung Daily had replaced Bixby Home in 2019.

You might be wondering why is it on your Galaxy device? Samsung confirmed in October last year that it would discontinue Samsung Daily. It also confirmed that the aforementioned service will be replaced with Samsung Free. The company said that the new service would provide more content and easy navigation.

Samsung Free is installed by default on all Samsung phones that come with Android 11 out of the box or were updated to this firmware. The app requires Android 11 and One UI 3. Since it’s a stock app, there’s actually no way to delete Samsung Free from your device.

You can disable it, though. Here’s how you can get rid of Samsung Free.

The Android 11 update for the Galaxy A30 has been approved by the WFA

The Galaxy A30 is on its way to receiving Android 11 / One UI 3.1; this much has been certain for nearly a year now. Development is underway and new evidence reveals that Samsung is already testing the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 firmware update for the Galaxy A30, all the while it’s gathering approvals ahead of release.

The Galaxy A30, model number SM-A305F/DS, was recently spotted in the Wi-Fi Alliance database by one of our readers and members of our Telegram community. Of course, the device has been in the WFA database for a few years now, but the latest entry — dated May 5 — is different because it confirms that the phone is running Android 11, as seen in the screenshot below.

Samsung’s original plan for the Galaxy A30 was to update the device with One UI 3.0 in July 2021, at least in Egypt. However, the upcoming update will most likely be based on One UI 3.1 instead of version 3.0, and it could arrive earlier than July, seeing how a few Galaxy devices that were listed on the original roadmap have been updated ahead of time.

Samsung had recently downgraded the Galaxy A30 from quarterly to biannual security updates, though the device did receive the April 2021 security patch a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for the tip, Amin!

Samsung Semiconductor is poised to dethrone Intel in a matter of weeks

After years of lagging behind Intel in terms of semiconductor sales, Samsung might finally be able to retake the top spot in Q2 2021, reveals a new analysis by IC Insight. According to the research firm, Intel’s semiconductor sales were down in the first quarter of the year and will continue to decline in Q2. Opposite to Intel, Samsung has been steadily increasing semiconductor sales for the past couple of years, and the company is on its way to overtaking its biggest rival.

Samsung recorded $17.1 billion in semiconductor sales in Q1 2021, whereas Intel secured $18.7 billion during the same three-month period. However, IC Insight estimates that Intel’s sales will drop to $17.9 billion in Q2 2021, while Samsung will increase semiconductor sales to $18.5 billion.

Retaking the top spot after two and a half years

For a short history lesson, Samsung overtook Intel in terms of semiconductor sales all the way back in Q2 2017, ending Intel’s 24-year reign over the segment. The Korean tech giant was able to hold the top spot for six quarters before the memory market collapsed in late 2018. Samsung’s was dominating Intel at that time, but the company’s semiconductor sales have crashed from $22.1 billion to $12.9 billion in a matter of months, allowing Intel to lead with $15.8 billion in sales.

Since then, Samsung’s semiconductor sales have been steadily rising at a higher rate compared to Intel’s. Save for a quick dip in Q4 2019, the company managed to increase semiconductor sales at a consistent pace every quarter.

IC Insight believes that this trend will continue throughout Q2 2021 when Samsung will finally be able to overtake Intel once again and lead the segment.

Samsung is developing a new F-branded low-cost phone, the Galaxy F22

Samsung’s somewhat confusing Galaxy F series of devices appears to have been successful-enough to persuade the company to develop yet another F-branded model. New evidence shows that Samsung is now working on a so-called Galaxy F22 for India. This was hinted at by @_the_tech_guy on Twitter, but more importantly, we were able to confirm through our own sources that the Galaxy F22 is indeed being worked on.

The Galaxy F22 will most likely be based on the Galaxy A22, though it’s important to note that the Galaxy A22 / A22 5G has yet to be officially introduced. It’s been leaked and rumored in spades but it continues dodging the market. This might suggest that Samsung could be preparing both the Galaxy A22 and the Galaxy F22 for a simultaneous release, though the Galaxy F22 is expected to remain exclusive to India, whereas the Galaxy A22 should see a more widespread release in Europe and other markets.

Assuming that the Galaxy F22 will share its DNA with the Galaxy A22, it will be interesting to see if it will follow the 4G or the 5G formula, or both. The Galaxy A22 5G is expected to go on sale with the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset and 6GB of RAM in tow. The A-branded device is bound to become the company’s cheapest 5G phone at the time of launch, though time will tell if the same will be true for the Galaxy F22.

Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Wi-Fi and LTE support pages go live in multiple markets

Yet another clue has surface to hint at an imminent launch of the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, as support pages for the device just went live in a few regions including Africa, India, and Romania. This strongly suggests that the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is on its way towards an official market launch soon, but perhaps more importantly, the support pages confirm that the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is planned to go on sale across multiple continents.

Support pages exist for both the Wi-Fi-only (SM-T220) and LTE (SM-T225) variants of the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, though this premature posting might also indicate that the LTE variant is not meant to be released everywhere. The official portals for India and Romania have listed support pages for both the SM-T220 and the SM-T225, but only the Wi-Fi model (SM-T220) is listed at Samsung Africa.

Of course, the support pages don’t reveal anything about the upcoming tablet itself, as the user manual and other technical details are currently missing, but it’s evident that the company is readying the tablet for a widespread release. The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite has been dodging the market for a few months now, but an early leak hints at a June official unveiling.

Samsung’s rolling out a new firmware update for the US-bound Galaxy S9

The May 2021 security patch has so far been rolled out for a handful of Galaxy devices, most of which have been released later than 2019, and the update’s distribution continues as Samsung is now bringing the same firmware to the unlocked Galaxy S9 in the USA.

As detailed earlier today, the May 2021 security patch addresses two dozens Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposure items, and among other things, it fixes an S Secure authentication bypass issue as well as an Intent Redirection vulnerability for Secure Folder. Of course, the new security update also addresses a number of vulnerabilities affecting Google’s own Android OS.

The base Galaxy S9 model appears to have priority for the new firmware update but the Galaxy S9+ shouldn’t be far behind. In any case, the new Galaxy S9 update can be identified by firmware version G96xU1UES9FUD1, and as always, it should be available for download from the Software update menu within the Settings app on your phone.

Galaxy S9 owners in the USA can also wait for the update notification to arrive, or they can circumvent the entire OTA update process by downloading the latest firmware manually from our archive and installing it on their phones using a Windows PC.

Enjoy these security patches while they last. The Galaxy S8 has just reminded us that security updates don’t last forever, and the Galaxy S9 will be the next flagship in line to drop support for security updates — presumably around this time next year.

Galaxy A52 5G could be launched in India soon

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 in India two months ago. Since India doesn’t have any 5G network coverage yet, it was logical for the company to not launch the Galaxy A52 5G in the country. However, India’s first mid-range Galaxy smartphone with 5G connectivity, the Galaxy M42 5G, was launched last month.

The company could soon launch the Galaxy A52 5G (SM-A526B) in India. We can confirm that Samsung has started the firmware development for the smartphone, which means that the launch isn’t far off. The upcoming smartphone could be priced around INR 5,000 (around $70) higher than the Galaxy A52 due to a better screen, a faster processor, and improved wireless connectivity.

The 6GB RAM variant of the Galaxy A52 is priced at INR 26,499 (around $365) in India, while the 8GB RAM variant is priced at INR 27,999 (around $385).

Galaxy A52 5G specs

The Galaxy A52 5G features a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an in-display optical fingerprint reader. It has a 32MP selfie camera and a 64MP+12MP+5MP+5MP quad-camera setup at the rear. The phone runs Android 11 out of the box and comes equipped with the Snapdragon 750G processor.

The smartphone features 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. However, we don’t expect the company to bring the 256GB version of the phone to the Indian market. The phone also features an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance and stereo speakers. It is powered by a  4,500mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging.

Vietnam wants to build a new local supplier pipeline for Samsung

Samsung Electronics and the Vietnamese government are strengthening their relationship, as the two entities have entered a high-level meeting earlier this week to discuss new potential collaborations and exchange requests. The Vietnamese government is is well-aware of Samsung’s contribution to the country’s economy and is looking to strengthen the partnership with new projects, and in return, Samsung is reportedly looking to tap into the country’s private supply of renewable energy.

In the meeting, Vietnam Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) Nguyen Hong Dien reportedly took the opportunity to express thanks for Samsung’s contribution to shaping Vietnam’s economy, especially since Vietnam was the only ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) country to have experienced positive economic growth during the widespread COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vietnamese government is now looking to create other joint projects with Samsung’s contribution, and has reportedly discussed a training program for consultants, a human resource training program, and an advisory improvement support program.

More importantly, Samsung’s executives and Nguyen Hong Dien have reportedly discussed the idea of building a local supplier pipeline for Samsung, seeing how the company’s smartphones manufactured in Vietnam account for 1/4th of the country’s exports.

Samsung Electronics wants renewable energy

In recent years, Samsung’s been making bigger efforts towards achieving sustainability and renewable energy, and this shift in mentality is clearly visible at a consumer level. More of the company’s home electronics are being shipped in eco-packaging, and the company’s been redesigning the retail packaging of its mobile devices to have a lesser negative impact on the environment.

Samsung has recently achieved 100% renewable energy at its factories in the USA, Europe, and China, but the company is now looking to increase its renewable energy footprint in Vietnam. To this goal, Samsung has reportedly asked for the MOIT’s permission to buy between 400MW and 1,000MW of renewable energy from private companies as opposed to obtaining it directly from the Vietnamese government.

It’s unclear if this request was or will be approved, but either way, Samsung is already expanding its influence in the region. Last year, the company started building Southeast Asia’s biggest R&D facility in the city of Hanoi.

Will Apple be too late with its first foldable iPhone launch in 2023?

Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, back in late 2019. Since then, the company has launched three more foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2. There is no real competition to Samsung’s foldable phones right now, but the company could start facing stiff competition from Apple in 2023.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will launch its first foldable iPhone sometime in 2023. Kuo’s research analysis notes that the device could feature an 8-inch foldable OLED screen with QHD+ resolution (3,200 x 1,800 pixels). That translates to an aspect ratio of 16:9, which is a lot broader than the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s 7.6-inch foldable display (11.24:9).

Apple will be four years late to the foldable smartphone party

It is still unclear whether the foldable iPhone’s screen will fold horizontally or vertically, but going by its screen size, it is possible that it will fold vertically. Even though Apple will be four years late to the party, it is reportedly expecting to sell up to 20 million units that year.

Samsung Display is expected to be the exclusive supplier of foldable OLED display panels for the foldable iPhone. Even though LG was rumored to be helping Apple with foldable screens, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Instead of using Samsung’s Y-Octa technology, the device could use TPK’s silver nanowire touch solution, which is said to be more durable and capable of multiple folds.

Samsung could be well-prepared to compete with the first foldable iPhone

Even though Samsung could face stiff competition from Apple in the foldable space, the launch of the first foldable iPhone could help Samsung in another way. We have already explained in a previous article how Apple’s entry could popularize the foldable smartphone market, in turn helping Samsung in shipping even more Galaxy Z series smartphones.

With its ecosystem in place, Apple could later bring foldable screen technology to its tablets and even laptops. Kuo notes in his research that Apple could emerge as the biggest brand in the foldable device segment over the next few years. But Samsung might not rest on its past laurels as well. The South Korean firm is heavily investing in material sciences and software design.

Future Galaxy Z series devices will have smoother displays, more durable screen protection, an IP rating for dust and water resistance, and stronger designs. A patent filed by Samsung showcased that the company might be working on a device that has a dual-foldable screen and an S Pen and that it can switch between a smartphone and a tablet.

Samsung tells us why the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has vacuum cleaner DNA

Enough time has passed since the Galaxy Z Fold 2 debuted for foldable enthusiasts to be waiting for a direct sequel, but while recent leaks and rumors have been slowly chipping away at the mystery surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung has decided to take a look back at the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and share a new design story with its fans. It tells the story of how the Hideaway Hinge was conceived, and it explains why the foldable device has some common DNA with vacuum cleaners.

Besides developing the foldable display itself, one of the biggest difficulties faced by Samsung when designing its foldable devices was to make the hinge as impervious to foreign particles as possible. First, Samsung had to create a hinge that was small enough to fit inside the Galaxy Z Flip 2 without compromising the design, and after dozens of versions tested, the company has settled on the final Hideaway Hinge design that comprises more than 60 small components.

Next, the company had to come up with a way to protect all those intricate mechanisms from dust and other foreign particles, and the company found the answer in one of the most unexpected places: its vacuum cleaner lineup.

Vacuum cleaners and sweeper technology save the day

Samsung has revealed that it went through 98 different ideas of how to protect the intricate mechanical hinge of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and none of these initial concepts worked. It must’ve been frustrating for Samsung to have this state-of-the-art display technology on its hands and yet be held back by a hinge mechanism, but thankfully the engineering team pulled through.

The team drew inspiration from the most unlikely place, namely the company’s household vacuum cleaners, and has developed the sweeper mechanism for the Hideaway Hinge. It’s made of fibers that are shorter than 1mm, and it meets three key requirements: it’s durable-enough to withstand 200,000 folds; it can maintain elasticity; and it’s small enough not to compromise the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s design.

This was an ingenious solution to a big problem, and indeed, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a lot more successful than the original model at keeping dust particles from infiltrating the device and breaking the foldable screen from the inside. But it is not perfect. There have been reports from a few Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners about the hinge getting stuck / clogged up, so it’s going to be interesting to see how Samsung will further evolve upon the hinge mechanism for the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Samsung helps India fight against COVID 19 surge with $5 million donation

India is in the midst of perhaps the worst COVID19 surge seen in the region. Hospitals and medical facilities are buckling under the immense stress being placed upon them. Despite stringent measures to control the outbreak, the situation is far from under control.

Being a responsible corporate citizen, Samsung has joined India in its fight against the COVID19 pandemic. The company has pledged $5 million in a donation to support the ongoing efforts.

This is Samsung’s second support package for India’s COVID19 fight

Samsung will be providing $5 million (INR 37 Crores) to help India during the current surge. Donations from this amount will be disbursed to central and state governments. The funds will boost the healthcare section with necessary medical equipment for hospitals.

The company has taken this decision after consultation with the relevant stakeholders in India and assessing the needs of local administrations. $3 million out of the pledged amount will be donated to the Centre and the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Samsung will also be providing $2 million worth of medical supplies. This includes 100 Oxygen Concentrators, 3,000 Oxygen Cylinders and one million LDS syringes. These supplies will be offered to the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Furthermore, Samsung will also cover the vaccination costs of more than 50,000 eligible employees and beneficiaries in India. The vaccination drive will include all Samsung Experience Consultants that work at electronic retail stores in India.

Samsung had also made a significant contribution in April last year to support India’s fight against the pandemic. It provided a donation to the Central government and support to the local administration in Noida.

Samsung could be losing its position in the mobile chipset market this year

Samsung has been increasing its reliance on the semiconductor business to drive growth. This has been necessitated by the intense competition and shrinking margins in the smartphone business. However, it’s not all smooth sailing.

A new report predicts that Samsung could actually lose its position in the smartphone chipset market this year. Its share of the global smartphone AP (application processor) and SoC (System on Chip) market is expected to decline in 2021.

No significant improvement expected for 5G chips too

Market tracker Counterpoint Research predicts that Samsung will account for 8 percent of the AP and SoC market in 2021. This will be down from the 11 percent market share that Samsung held in the last year.

Samsung is highlighted as one of the only two brands that will see their market share reduce in 2021. MediaTek is expected to carry its momentum into 2021, seeing an increase from 32 to 37 percent this year. Qualcomm and Apple, both fabless chipmakers like MediaTek, will also see a slight improvement in their market share.

The rise of competitive 5G phones at lower price points will aid MediaTek is expanding its market share this year. It will also benefit from supply constraints that others have been facing.

Even though the 5G smartphone chipset market continues to grow, it’s predicted that Samsung won’t see its piece of the pie increase significantly. Much like 2020, the company’s share of the 5G smartphone AP/SoC market is expected to remain at 10 percent.

Latest Galaxy Z Fold 2 update brings some new improvements

Samsung has been very quick to release the latest security update for its devices recently. A few have already received the May 2021 security patch even before it was detailed. The company has been doing a great job in this department.

Its flagship phones are often the first to receive these updates. So it’s not surprising to see that the May security update has now been rolled out for the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 picks up the latest security update

The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20 series were among the first devices to get the May 2021 security patch. Samsung has now rolled out its latest security update for the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Since the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is already on the latest version of One UI, there’s not much in the way of new features that this update brings. It applies all of the security fixes that are included in the May 2021 patch.

The changelog does mention that the camera performance and Quick Share have been improved. The dual recording feature has been added as well. It was made available to the Galaxy S20 series with the previous update as well. The feature enables users to record with both the front and rear cameras at the same time.

The company is rolling out firmware version F916BXXU1DUDA for the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It has been sent out over-the-air in Germany. Users elsewhere shouldn’t worry, the update will be going live in their region very soon as well.

Samsung stops updating the Galaxy S8, four years after its release

The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, which were launched way back in April 2017, will no longer get new software updates. Four years after their launch, Samsung has quietly removed the two smartphones from its software update schedule. The two phones have been on a quarterly update schedule for the past year.

Samsung has finally pulled the plug on software updates for the Galaxy S8 series. The two smartphones were originally launched with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and they have received two major Android OS updates since then. The Android 8.0 update was released for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ in February 2018 and the Android 9.0-based One UI update was released in February 2019.

We will continue to remember the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, which were Samsung’s first phones with thin bezels, a 10nm processor, Samsung DeX, and a USB Type-C port.

The Galaxy S8 Active and the Galaxy S8 Lite (a.k.a Galaxy S Light Luxury) are still listed in Samsung’s software update schedule. The Galaxy S8 Active was launched in August 2017, and it will continue to get quarterly updates. The Galaxy S8 Light Luxury is currently listed to receive biannual security updates.

The company used to release only two major Android OS updates, even for its flagship phones. However, a few months ago, Samsung announced that it will now release three major Android OS updates for its high-end smartphones (and tablets) and most of its mid-range smartphones. It also promised to support its phones for four years by releasing security updates.

Gawk at these brilliant Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 concept images

Samsung is expected to launch two new foldable smartphones—Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3—in Q3 of 2021. Yesterday, their images were leaked for the first time, throwing some light on their design and what to expect from Samsung’s next set of foldable phones. Based on those leaked images, some designers have created concept images of the two upcoming Galaxy Z series devices.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 features a glass and metal body with a triple-camera setup at the rear. The camera assembly’s design is quite different from what we’ve seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and even the Galaxy S21 series. The vertically-placed cameras are expected to be 12MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, and 3x telephoto camera. Both displays on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 are rumored to feature a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone will also be compatible with the S Pen, but there will be no silo inside the phone to store the stylus. The foldable phone will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 will see a major design change as well, as depicted by the concept renders published by LetsGoDigital. Compared to the 1.1-inch cover display on the Galaxy Z Flip, its successor will reportedly feature a much bigger 1.83-inch display, which will make it easier to interact with notifications and control music playback. Moreover, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is said to feature a 120Hz display and Snapdragon 888 chipset, similar to most other high-end smartphones from Samsung. The company appears to be sticking with the dual-camera setup, though.

We had exclusively revealed earlier that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will come with an IP rating for dust and water resistance. Both upcoming smartphones are likely to feature 5G connectivity, 4K video recording, GPS, USB Type-C port, wireless charging, and 25W fast charging.
