Good Lock and QuickStar module get new updates specific to One UI 4.0

Samsung is rolling out a new update for its powerful customization app Good Lock, and with it, the company is also updating the QuickStar module with support for Android 12 and One UI 4.0.

Beta testers had access to Good Lock on the Galaxy S21 series running One UI 4.0 beta from the moment the beta program launched. Not every Good Lock module was supported though, and furthermore, we were told that the list of supported modules won’t get any bigger throughout the beta testing period. However, Samsung appears to have gone back on that.

Samsung QuickStar — the Good Lock module that provides customization options for the quick panel — just got updated to version 5.0.00.00, and the only new addition mentioned in the changelog is support for One UI 4.0 based on Android 12.

As for Good Lock, the latest update to version 2.1.02.2 claims to fix GUI issues with One UI 4.0, though it doesn’t go into specifics.

You can download the latest updates to Good Lock and QuickStar from our APK section (just hit the links), though keep in mind that the Good Lock platform is limited to a handful of markets. Well, it’s actually live in more than a handful as of this writing, but no more than fifteen.

One half of the Galaxy S21 FE just got featured in an early hands-on video

The Galaxy S21 FE might quickly become one of Samsung’s most leaked smartphones in recent years. Although we’re waiting for the phone to be officially unveiled in a couple of months from now, some component suppliers are already ahead of the curve. They’re selling Galaxy S21 FE components that are available for purchase online by virtually anyone.

We saw pictures of the Galaxy S21 FE’s back panel online a couple of days ago. Those images were pulled from a component supplier’s website who seems to be selling them ahead of time. Someone — Concept Creator — acquired a back panel and made a Galaxy S21 FE hands-on video of sorts.

The back panel’s dimensions are somewhat similar to the Galaxy S10. At least they’re close enough for the Galaxy S21 FE back panel to almost fit perfectly onto the frame of the Galaxy S10, as seen in the video below.

The Galaxy S21 FE has a glossy paint finish. The shape of the camera housing resembles that of the base Galaxy S21 model, except it doesn’t have a separate metallic element that protrudes.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S21 FE in January, but at this rate, we’ll probably see a lot more components leaking out before the next Galaxy Unpacked event takes place. Stay tuned and join our social media channels if you want to stay up to speed.

One Hand Operation+ now supports One UI 4.0’s top customization feature

Of the many Good Lock modules that Samsung offers, One Hand Operation+ is perhaps one of the most popular. It makes it very easy for users to control their smartphones with just one hand. This comes in handy, pun intended, as some of the best Samsung phones happen to have quite large displays.

Samsung has released a new One Hand Operation+ update today that brings several improvements. It also gets support for one of the top customization features in One UI 4.0.

One Hand Operation+ updated to support One UI 4.0 customization

Samsung has rolled out version 4.9.29 of One Hand Operation+ today. The changelog mentions that it now adds NFC and Do not disturb actions to Quick tools. It also fixes issues when the device is running DeX.

The One UI 4.0 wallpaper color theme can now be applied as well. It’s one of the best customization features that the upcoming OS upgrade offers. Lastly, with this latest update, the module can enable the system’s back gesture when the handle is hidden by app exceptions.

Samsung will gradually update its Good Lock modules ahead of the One UI 4.0 release. This will enable them to work with the new OS upgrade when it arrives. The One UI 4.0 beta program is well and truly underway. Samsung is expected to release One UI 4.0 to the public before the end of this year.

You can head over to our APK section right now to download this latest version of One Hand Operation+.

Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 get cheaper with early Black Friday deals

Black Friday is a few weeks away, but because Samsung always wants to stay ahead of things, the company went ahead and launched an early Black Friday campaign this week for its latest foldable flagship phones.

The ongoing deals at Samsung USA can help you save hundreds of dollars, with or without trading in older devices. Galaxy Z Fold 3 buyers get a $250 instant rebate on either the 256GB or 512GB model, and the device comes with a free pair of Galaxy Buds 2 earbuds worth $150.

You can also get the clamshell foldable cheaper

Aside from the Fold 3, Samsung is also shaving $100 off the price of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 with this early Black Friday deal. The $100 instant rebate applies regardless if you pick the 128GB or the 256GB model, but it doesn’t affect the Bespoke Edition. Like the Fold 3, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is also accompanied by a free pair of Galaxy Buds 2 earbuds.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and especially the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 3 are proving to be quite successful so far. Samsung seems to be betting big on these foldable devices this holiday season, especially because there was no new Galaxy Note model unveiled this year.

Galaxy Tab S8 Lite is Samsung’s latest tablet you can’t buy anytime soon

Multiple reports have prophesized that Samsung has three versions of the Galaxy Tab S8 in store for us: the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tan S8+ and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Galaxyclub.nl has heard that there could be a fourth, watered-down variant in the works, too. Unsurprisingly, it will be called the Galaxy Tab S8 Lite.

Very little is known about the Galaxy Tab S8 Lite, at this point, but it is expected to bear the SM-X50* model number, where the asterisk changes according to parameters such as region, type of modem, etc. The report also states that the Galaxy Tab S8 Lite could be called the Galaxy Tab S8 FE.

Galaxy Tab S8 Lite could be launched later in 2022

The Galaxy Tab S8 Lite/FE, could, in all likelihood, be launched later in the year. It makes little fiscal sense for Samsung to undercut its own offerings, especially at a time when its tablet business is in the doldrums. Hence, we could see the Galaxy S8 Lite in action sometime in Q3/Q4 2022.

As far as the Galaxy S8 Lite’s innards are concerned, it is unlikely to use the Galaxy Tab S8’s chipset, which, at this point, could be anything. Rumour has it that the crème de la crème Exynos 2200 will be reserved for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, so the remaining variants could settle for a lower-tier Snapdragon or Exynos SoC.

Our Galaxy Tab S7 FE review found the tablet to be competent, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. We hope that Samsung improves upon its shortcomings and brings it on par with other Fan Edition devices. A good place to start would be to ditch the notched display slated for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

Q3 could’ve been disastrous for Samsung if not for the Galaxy Z Flip 3

Samsung’s smartphone business in Europe had a tough third quarter of the year. The company suffered significant sales losses while most of its rivals increased their shares. Even so, Samsung remained the top smartphone vendor in Europe throughout Q3 2021.

Even though most of Samsung’s rivals recorded increased sales year-on-year, the Korean tech giant still came out ahead with a 30.4% market share (down from 35.8% in Q3 2020).

Samsung was reportedly able to maintain the lead in the European smartphone market largely thanks to its supply chain somewhat recovering.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 saves the day

Xiaomi gained almost 10% share in terms of smartphone sales in Europe throughout Q3, and Apple increased its share from 17.6% to 22.1%. Samsung, on the other hand, lost significant ground. Thankfully, it seems like foldable display technology came to the rescue.

According to Counterpoint Research, if it wasn’t for the popularity of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in Europe — particularly in the western half — Samsung would’ve been in a much worse situation. But thanks (in part) to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung was able to maintain the lead in Europe with a 30.4% market share, says the market watcher.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the first Samsung clamshell foldable phone to benefit from an IP rating and stereo speakers. It’s a fantastic flagship for anyone looking for a compact device, and it seems like plenty of Samsung customers in Europe want just that.

Main Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) specs have been confirmed

At this point, there is very little we don’t know about the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021). Previous leaks have told us the tablet’s specifications in their entirety and even shown us a glimpse at its design.

Now, a Geekbench listing reaffirms the leaked spec sheet from earlier by confirming the chipset model. It also confirms that the tablet will have Wi-Fi-only and LTE variants.

Galaxy Tab A8 makes an appearance at Bluetooth SIG

91mobiles has stumbled upon the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) in the Geekbench 4.0 database running a UNISOC Tiger T618 SoC. In its first run, the tablet managed to net a single and multi-core score of 1,625 and 5,285, respectively. The next run yielded scores of 1,704 and 5,256.

This particular Galaxy Tab A8 variant appears to be running Android 11 and has a paltry 3GB of RAM. We’re probably looking at the entry-level Galaxy Tab A (2021), as anything lower than 3GB of system memory will have trouble running a full-fat version of Android.

Apart from Geekbench, the Galaxy Tab A8 also showed up on the Bluetooth SIG website bearing model number SM-X205. Bluetooth SIG listings don’t often tell us a whole lot about a device’s innards, and this one is no different. It does, however, confirm that the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) will run Bluetooth 5.2 out of the box, which is nice, given that it is a budget tablet.

Although we know quite a lot about the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021), its launch date is still shrouded by mystery. Its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab A7, was launched in September 2020. We’re way past that point so it is difficult to tell when Samsung will make the low-cost tablet available to the masses.

Samsung started rolling out the November 2021 security patch to its smartphones in the last week of October. The Galaxy S21 was the first phone to get the new security patch, and it is now the Galaxy Note 20’s turn to get the update. The new software update is currently rolling out in the UK.

The latest update for the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with firmware version N98xxXXS3DUJ6. Apart from general bug fixes and device stability improvements, the new update also contains the November 2021 security patch. According to Samsung’s own documentation, the latest security patch fixes dozens of software vulnerabilities related to privacy and security.

Apple wants Samsung to help make the OLED MacBook a reality

Apple has gradually adopted OLED panels for its iPhones. It’s also planning to launch OLED iPads down the line. One product lineup that could really benefit from the advanced display technology is the MacBook.

As Samsung Display is the leading manufacturer of OLED panels, Apple understandably has to turn towards the Korean conglomerate. It’s reportedly in discussions with Samsung to secure panels for an OLED MacBook.

The OLED MacBook may not be possible without Samsung

Samsung Display already makes OLED displays for laptops. Several manufacturers already sell high-end laptops that use these displays. Samsung has even started making 90Hz refresh rate OLED panels for laptops.

Rumor has it that Apple was planning to launch its first OLED MacBook in 2025. However, it’s now believed that these plans might be delayed. It may still launch an OLED iPad by 2023-2024. The price is reportedly a big consideration that might end up delaying the OLED upgrade for the MacBook.

Samsung Display is reportedly not the only Korean display manufacturer that Apple is considering. Apple is already said to have cancelled its 10.86-inch OLED iPad panel project that it was working on with Samsung.

It’s also said to be in talks with LG Display for the OLED panels that would find their way in its laptops. Both Samsung Display and LG Display currently supply OLED panels for iPhone and Apple Watch respectively.

There’s remains a possibility that orders could be split between the two companies to ensure adequate supply. Apple will also favor the supplier that can better match the pricing that it has in mind.

Samsung is planning to fit a 50 megapixel camera on the Galaxy A13

Samsung sells an incredible amount of its entry-level smartphones. They’re competitively priced and offer respectable specs. These devices tend to do well in emerging markets particularly for first-time smartphone buyers.

So it goes without saying that Samsung seeks to improve them with every iteration. The Galaxy A12 ranked among the best Samsung phones due to the value for money it provided. The Galaxy A13 will be its successor and it’s getting an upgrade in the camera department.

Galaxy A13 is getting a camera upgrade

Reports out of South Korea suggest that Samsung is planning to equip the Galaxy A13 with a 50-megapixel primary sensor. The device will have a quad camera setup with a 5-megapixel ultra-wide, 2-megapixel macro and 2-megapixel depth sensor.

There’s also going to be an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The rest of the camera setup is exactly the same as the Galaxy A12. It’s only the primary sensor that’s being upgraded from 48-megapixel on the Galaxy A12 to 50-megapixel on the Galaxy A13.

No other details are available about the upcoming device right now. Its predecessor utilized a MediaTek chipset and came with a 5,000mAh battery. It also had a 6.5-inch HD+ TFT display. We’ll likely see similar specs on the Galaxy A13.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A12 in November last year before it went on sale in January 2021. So we might see a similar timeline for the Galaxy A13. It may very well be one of the first Samsung devices to hit the market in 2022.

New video shows Google apps running perfectly on Samsung’s new foldables

Samsung has published a new video advertisement for its new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The video primarily shows how Google’s apps are a great way to experience improved multitasking and productivity on foldable devices.

The video starts off by showing how the Galaxy Z Fold 3 can be placed half folded on a flat surface while watching videos so that there is no need for a kickstand. Then the video shows how you can use up to three apps side by side for improved multitasking. You can use the optional taskbar for faster app switching. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 can be placed on any flat surface while using its cameras, removing the need for a tripod while making short videos on YouTube Shorts or TikTok. The same goes for video calls, especially while using Google Duo, which is optimized for Flex Mode.

This new video is a part of a collaboration between Google and Samsung. The two companies are trying to increase the popularity of foldable phones through groundbreaking hardware and intelligent software. With One UI 3.1.1, Samsung improved multitasking and productivity features on its foldable phones.

Google recently showcased a new version of AndroidAndroid 12L—that’s specifically designed for large-screen devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Tab S7. It offers multi-column UI in various parts of the OS to take full advantage of bigger screens and offer more information in the same view. Here’s the list of Samsung devices that are eligible to receive the Android 12L update.
