Galaxy S20 will take pictures with all three rear cameras at once

The Galaxy S20 series will bring many upgrades over the Galaxy S10 lineup, and the camera experience will be one of the main attractions of Samsung’s upcoming flagship. It won’t be just the camera hardware that will make the Galaxy S20 series stand out from everything that has come from Samsung before. The company has also prepared a number of new software features for the camera, many of which were detailed in a report from the folks over XDA Developers a few months back.

Now, Max Weinbach of XDA Developers has revealed yet another new Galaxy S20 camera feature. The feature is reportedly called QuickTake and will capture a scene with all three rear cameras and then let the user choose which of the three photos they want to keep. As had been reported previously, the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra will also have a video version of the feature called Single Take Photo. Single Take Photo will capture a series of photos and videos as the camera is panned around and then let the user choose the pics and clips they like and discard everything else.

QuickTake is one of those features that Samsung could have implemented on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 as well, just like it didn’t need to first take out the option to record videos in Pro mode from its phones and then bring it back with the Galaxy S20. When taking pictures with the Live Focus mode, Galaxy phones let you store both the bokeh shot and a standard picture at the same time, and QuickTake will simply do the same for photos from the three main rear cameras.

QuickTake should come in very handy: You wouldn’t need to switch between the regular and ultra-wide cameras when taking a photo of a landscape when you’re out holidaying, for example. And it’s possible Samsung will bring the feature to the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series with a software update after the Galaxy S20 is released. The Korean giant hasn’t been shy about bringing camera functionality from new flagship to older devices in the past year or two, so we should see the same happen this year as well.

Good Lock 2020 with Android 10 and One UI 2.0 support is out now

The moment many of you had been waiting for has arrived. Samsung has released the 2020 version of Good Lock on the Galaxy Store today, just as it had promised. Good Lock 2020 brings official support for Android 10 and One UI 2.0 and is now available for download from Samsung’s app store.

Good Lock now supports changing between a light and dark theme based on the system-wide Dark mode setting. Samsung has also added new functionality to some of the Good Lock plugins, though it doesn’t seem like the company has made the app available in more markets with the release of the 2020 version. Even newer devices that come with Android 10 out of the box, like the Galaxy S10 Lite, don’t have access to all of the Good Lock plugins from within the app even in supported countries, which will hopefully change soon.

Samsung recommends uninstalling and reinstalling all of the Good Lock plugins from within the app for those who have been using Good Lock since Android Pie and have updated their device to Android 10. You can download Good Lock 2020 from the Galaxy Store here (tap the link on your phone’s browser to go directly to the store) and then download all of the plugins, such as QuickStar, Task Changer, and Routines by opening Good Lock.

We will soon have the APK files for the app and its plugins available in our APK database so you can manually install them on your device if Good Lock isn’t officially available in your country.

Exclusive: Samsung’s next Galaxy Watch has double the storage at 8GB

Samsung followed up the excellent Galaxy Watch – its last with a physical rotating bezel – with the Galaxy Watch Active in 2019. It ditched the physical rotating bezel but Samsung struck a compromise with the Galaxy Watch Active 2, that arrived merely six months after its predecessor. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 has a digital rotating bezel, it’s not quite the same as the physical bezel, but it gets the job done.

It first emerged two weeks ago that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy Watch. Now, it’s unclear whether it’s going to be launched as the Galaxy Watch 2 or as the Galaxy Watch Active 3. What we do hear is that it’s going to double the internal storage from 4GB on the existing models to 8GB. Given how Samsung is shaking up its device branding this year, who knows, the next smartwatch may be called something else entirely.

The new Galaxy Watch will have double the internal storage

What’s clear at this point in time is that there is definitely a new smartwatch in the pipeline and it bears model numbers SM-R840/845 and SM-R850/855. There will be two sizes on offer, but it remains to be seen if we’ll be given the same 40mm and 44mm options as the Galaxy Watch Active 2, or Samsung is going to increase the sizes. There’s going to be a cellular variant for each model as well. They’ll most definitely be LTE-enabled.

However, given Samsung’s focus on 5G this year, will they end up being the world’s first 5G smartwatches? We’re just speculating here, and it might seem like total overkill to have 5G on a smartwatch, but someone has to claim those bragging rights.

The entire lineup will have 8GB of internal storage, double that of Samsung’s most recent smartwatches. The added storage will allow users to have more apps on the smartwatch and even store more local music, something those who don’t buy the cellular model will certainly appreciate. We can expect the new smartwatch to come with updated internals and several new software features. A recent report also revealed that the SM-R840 will feature a 330mAh battery, bigger than the 247mAh one on the 40mm Galaxy Watch Active 2.

We do hear that this new smartwatch is very early in the development cycle at this stage. Don’t expect it to be unveiled at Samsung’s Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip launch event on February 11. Given the scale of leaks this year, if it was on the docket, it would have been fully leaked by now. It’s much more likely that Samsung is keeping its next smartwatch for the second half of this year so expect it to arrive alongside the Galaxy Note 20.

Here’s an actual video leak of the Galaxy Z Flip and its satisfying snap

If you thought that the dozens of leaked Galaxy Z Flip press renders didn’t quite give you a good look at the phone, an actual video of Samsung’s next foldable smartphone has now been leaked online.

It’s a very short clip in which we can see someone unfolding the device and then folding it back again. It snaps shut in a rather satisfying way, much like the old flip phones did, so this will take many on a trip down memory lane.

Oh my god that snap!

Almost everything there is to know about the Galaxy Z Flip has been leaked online already. The fact that it was going to have a clamshell form factor was confirmed many months ago. There has also been a steady stream of leaks and rumors about the device.

However, the recent major leak confirmed all of the details about Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone. This actual video of the Galaxy Z Flip is a surprising leak, given how closely guarded the original Galaxy Fold was. It’s also surprising given that we have yet to see a similar video for the upcoming Galaxy S20 series.

The hinge makes the device operate quite like the old flip phones. Just slip the tip of your thumb in the space between the two panels and flip open the device. It shuts with a very satisfying snap which means that the hinge has likely been very well engineered. The plastic bumpers on the corners that we saw in the renders are present as well for added protection.

Fans will obviously not be complaining about this leak. There’s considerable anticipation for Samsung’s new foldable smartphone. This video gives us a very brief glimpse of the device’s external 1.0-inch and internal 6.7-inch foldable display. It’s powered on so we get to see a bit of the UI as well.

There’s quite a bit of identifying information on the screen as well, the sort that Samsung uses to track units of unreleased handsets. So the company will be able to trace the owner of this device fairly easily. The leak just highlights the argument that our founder Danny made last week, the company really needs to do something about improving device security prior to the official launch.

Samsung is due to officially unveil the Galaxy Z Flip on February 11 at its Unpacked event in San Francisco. The handset is expected to hit the market on February 14 for around $1,500.
