Samsung now lets you compete against championship racing drivers

Ever wondered what it would feel like to race against some of the best racing drivers in the world? I have, but once the realization kicks in that it’s probably easier said than done, a simulator seems to be the best way to end that curiosity.

So if you find yourself in London by any chance, then do stop by the Samsung KX experience space in the Coal Drops Yard. The company has put up a very sophisticated racing simulator in its store that’s actually not a store.

Feel the g-forces racing drivers experience

A full-motion driving simulator has been installed at the Samsung KX experience space in London’s Coal Drops Yard. It pairs AXSIM’s Formula Simulator with Samsung’s The Wall Biz display. This 1.2m pixel super-sized luxury bespoke display delivers a mind-blowing esports experience.

The experience isn’t just about sitting in the pod and going crazy with the steering wheel. Its patented g-cueing technology will have you feeling the g-forces that racing drivers feel in real life. This technology was initially developed for training fighter jet pilots but is now also supplied to Formula 1 teams and professional drivers.

There is a range of circuits that you can experience and car models used for professional driver training. Those who are under the age of sixteen can experience this technology in passenger mode. It’s a pre-recorded simulation that effectively takes them on a simulated hot lap with a champion driver.

You can book your slot for the experience online.

Samsung has quietly launched the Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G in Europe

Following the countless leaks and rumors pertaining to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7 spinoff, the company has finally put an end to the question of ‘what moniker will the tablet have?’ and has quietly made the device official through one of its e-shops in Europe. The tablet popped up in the online store in Germany today, and in case there was any doubt, it’s called the Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G.

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G will be available in two color options — Mystic Black and Mystic Silver — and one 64GB storage configuration that can be expanded via microSD. The tablet is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G chipset and it ships with 4GB of RAM.

Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G is equipped with a 12.4-inch display, but it’s of the TFT variety rather than AMOLED. It has a resolution of 2,560 by 1,600 pixels and it’s seemingly limited at 60Hz.

Other hardware components include a 10,090mAh battery with 45W super-fast charging capabilities, which should be plenty. The unit promises up to 13 hours of video playback on a single charge, and thanks to its super-fast charging, the battery can be fully recharged in roughly 190 minutes.

The tablet has an 8MP main camera, a 5MP selfie sensor, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac and VHT80 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS, but it lacks NFC capabilities.

Samsung DeX, S Pen, and various apps are included

Samsung is selling the Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G along with an S Pen, so the device is appropriately-marketed as a productivity-oriented device. Much like the non-FE Galaxy Tab S7, it also comes with a variety of note-taking and design apps including Noteshelf, Canva, and Clip Studio Paint, the latter of which is offered in the EX variant for 6 free months.

Last but not least, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G supports the DeX platform, and productivity can be enhanced even further by pairing the tablet the Samsung keyboard cover.

The tablet can’t be ordered as of this writing but the ‘Buy’ button on Samsung’s e-shop will likely be activated soon.

Samsung’s ISOCELL HM3 image sensor gets detailed in a new intro video

Samsung’s ISOCELL HM3 image sensor was announced in mid-January right around the time the Galaxy S21 series was making an appearance on stage at Unpacked 2021. So far, the 108MP sensor was employed only by the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and it has yet to be adopted by a smartphone from another brand.

Regardless, today Samsung felt the need to release an official introduction video for the ISOCELL HM3, months after the sensor’s release, to provide more detailed explanations pertaining to the sensor’s qualities and specifications.

ISOCELL 2.0, Nonapixel, Smart-ISO Pro, and more

The video briefly explains how ISOCELL 2.0 works to separate the pixels and enhance color fidelity. It’s a physical barrier grid that surrounds each one of the millions of 0.8-micron pixels to prevent phenomena such as color crosstalk and light bleed.

Samsung also reminds us of its Nonapixel technology which, in the case of the ISOCELL HM3 sensor, combines 9 pixels to form a single larger pixel capable of absorbing more light and improving performance in low light conditions.

Smart-ISO is another technology that contributes to the ISOCELL HM3’s performance. This technology was detailed by Samsung before, but in short, it’s designed to deliver high-performance HDR shots in mixed light settings. It achieves this by combining the readouts from the low and high ISO to produce one single image with 12-bit color depth.

The delayed launch of the official introduction video below suggests that Samsung might be preparing to implement the ISOCELL HM3 sensor on an upcoming Galaxy flagship, or that the sensor could soon be purchased by other OEMs. Time will tell.

Galaxy A90 5G gets better Quick Share and the May 2021 security update

We’re nearing the end of the month but Samsung hasn’t finished updating all of its numerous Galaxy devices with the May 2021 security patch yet. Fortunately for Galaxy A90 5G owners, Samsung has just begun rolling out a new firmware update for the device in South Korea, and as you may have guessed, it comes with the latest security patch.

Samsung customers in Korea who happen to own the Galaxy A90 5G (SM-A908N) can identify the new update by firmware version A908NKSU3DUE1. As for customers who might be owning the Galaxy A90 5G SM-A908B / SM-A9080 in other markets, as always, the firmware should gradually extend its reach beyond South Korea’s borders and go live in more regions. There’s no telling exactly when, but it’s just a matter of time.

Quick Share improvements should be included

Aside from better security thanks to the addition of the May 2021 security patch, the latest firmware update should also introduce the Quick Share improvements that have been brought over to numerous other Galaxy devices this month.

The Camera improvements appear to be missing, but at least the update seemingly includes a few extra features — better Quick Share, for a start — on top of whatever security enhancements are happening under the hood.

Galaxy A90 5G owners can check if the latest firmware update is available for download from the Software update category inside the Settings app on their phones. SamMobile readers can also refer to our firmware archive where we upload new Samsung updates regularly. They are available for manual download and can be installed on eligible Galaxy phones using a Windows PC.

Thanks for the tip, Amin! Via SamMobile Telegram.

Amazon has some attractive new deals for the Galaxy S21 flagship series

It’s been nearly half a year since the Galaxy S21 series was released, and Samsung fans who have yet to acquire one of the new flagship models now have an opportunity to do so for a lower price. Amazon is now selling the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra at significant discounts in the USA, though a couple of these recent deals don’t make a lot of sense — in a good way.

To be precise, both the 128GB and 256GB variants of the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ are now available at a lower-than-usual price, but here’s the kicker: they cost the same after the recent deal. So, instead of buying the Galaxy S21 with 128GB of storage at a 13% / $100 discount for $699, customers can pick the 256GB variant at an 18% / $150 discount for the same $699 price.

The 256GB Galaxy S21+ and Ultra are also priced the same as the 128GB variants

Similarly odd discount also apply to the Galaxy S21+. The 128GB / 256GB models usually cost $999 and $1,049, respectively, but they can now each be purchased in exchange for $799 after a $200 / $250 discount. They cost the same.

And as you may have guessed, the unusual price drop is valid for the Galaxy S21 Ultra as well. The 128GB and 256GB variants would usually set customers back $1,199 and $1,249, respectively, but they are now available for $999 each.

The recent discount seems to be attracting quite a few customers, given that Amazon has some variants temporarily out of stock. But orders can still be placed, so make sure you refer to the review and store links below if you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to purchase one of Samsung’s Galaxy S21 flagships at lower price.

Unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 units getting May 2021 security patch stateside

The unlocked variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest Samsung device to have joined the May 2021 security update party. And it did so less than a month since its first siblings began making the jump to the said software version. Stateside, at least, as was to be expected; U.S. carriers have recently improved their delivery times with security updates for modern Galaxy devices, but only as far as flagships are concerned.

Of course, that’s exactly what the Galaxy Z Fold 2 happens to be, so if you happen to own one of these ultra-luxurious foldable pieces of history, you should already start checking for the new security patch if one hasn’t arrived by now. To perform a manual scan, go to Settings Software update > Download and install. From that same interface, your device will also tell you when was the last time either of you searched for a firmware upgrade.

Once folded and twice updated this month? Not bad for a U.S. device

As for the software release at hand, you’re looking for PDA version F916U1UEU1DUDE. Even if you are, in fact, not a dude, which is just a funny accident resulting from Samsung’s version naming schema. The very thing that reveals the May 1st, 2021 security patch isn’t the only thing that’s on board here. We knew that already, but here’s a detailed write-up, just in case you don’t know what to expect from this particular release.

Speaking of foldable devices and releases, Samsung is likely to be introducing the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 this summer. Make sure to read up on our latest coverage if you want to know what to expect from the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and if this new security update is giving you any trouble, our firmware archive won’t.

Samsung’s working on an adaptive UI for the Z Fold 3 and future flagships

Samsung’s next major version of One UI for Android (One UI 3.5) might boast a new adaptive user interface capable of, well, adapting according to the size, aspect ratio, and orientation of the display. An adaptive UI is meant to be capable of resizing, rearranging, and redrawing UI elements on the fly according to the aforementioned parameters, which means that it should look and feel natural on any type of smart device equipped with a screen, from standard smartphones and tablets to foldable devices.

This rumor was accompanied by a few GIFs showcasing the adaptive UI in action, and according to the source — @UniverseIce — the adaptive UI for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 could be called Split UI. However, the GIFs cover all sorts of form factors besides the Galaxy Z Fold’s book-like shape, and it might be planned to go live on all future Galaxy phones and tablets, regardless of their size.

Of course, the biggest strength of the adaptive UI is that it could be easily adopted by future form factors that don’t yet exist. Samsung recently showcased a couple of foldable concepts that don’t follow the conventional form factor, such as a Z-shaped device equipped with a flexible screen that folds in two places. Then there’s the rumored Galaxy Z Roll equipped with a slidable display, which would be a perfect fit for an adaptive UI.

Is Split UI the natural evolution of App Continuity?

Certain adaptive elements already exist in One UI. App Continuity was the answer to the original Galaxy Fold having two screens, and adaptive UI elements have made App Continuity possible.

But the so-called Split UI takes this idea to a whole new level, and hopefully, it will provide better third-party app support than App Continuity.

There’s not a lot of information regarding One UI 3.5’s adaptive UI but the GIFs below should give you a clearer idea of what to expect from this new approach, assuming that it will be adopted by Samsung for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and future flagship devices.

Another great Galaxy Tab S6 (Wi-Fi) discount is available only for today

The Galaxy Tab S6 was discounted a couple of times throughout the year, but limited-time deals come and go. Fortunately, any prospective buyers who might have missed these past opportunities now have another. Woot! — the Amazon-owned daily deals company — is now offering the Galaxy Tab S6 at a massive 32% discount.

The deal is valid for the Wi-Fi-only Mountain Gray Galaxy Tab S6 with 256GB of built-in storage, and as of this writing, there are around 17 hours left on this limited-time discount — assuming that stocks last. The Galaxy Tab S6 in this particular configuration normally costs $729, but customers can now buy the tablet for as low as $499.

Each customer is limited to a maximum of 10 orders, and 20% of customers who have already taken advantage of this deal have bought 3 or more Galaxy Tab S6 units at this incredible price.

The Galaxy Tab S6 remains a great tablet even as it approaches its second anniversary, and Samsung is expected to improve it further. The tablet was updated with two major Android OS updates and it will eventually make the jump to Android 12 / One UI 4.0. It will be its last major update, but Samsung will continue supporting it minor feature updates and security patches.

The Galaxy A52 is great, but one feature would have made it perfect

The Galaxy A52 (and the Galaxy A52 5G) is an amazing mid-range phone that makes its predecessors seem extremely outdated in comparison. It’s got some excellent features we could only dream of seeing on Samsung’s mid-range phones earlier, such as a high refresh rate display, stereo speakers, and water and dust resistance (though the latter was already present on older A series phones a few years ago). It’s a pretty neat package, in short, and the A52 is one of many other mid-range Galaxies that are promised three generations of Android OS updates, making it a dependable long-term investment.

I’ve recently been using the Galaxy A52 as my daily driver to see how the phone holds up a few months after launch, and it has once again managed to impress me with just how good it is. In fact, it’s so good that I do not feel like switching back to one of the flagship Galaxy phones at my disposal. The 90Hz refresh rate and the Snapdragon 720G processor make performance very smooth. The display size is just perfect. Battery life is crazy long, and charging is fast. The stereo speakers sound good, even if the volume doesn’t go as high as I would like. Most of the software features that make One UI so good are at my disposal.

No zoom? No deal

But it is when I open the camera app that it dawns on me how I can’t really keep using the Galaxy A52 forever, and that’s thanks to the lack of any dedicated zoom lens. I like the main camera and the ultra-wide camera. They don’t perform as well as Samsung’s flagship phone cameras, yet they do a commendable job in most scenarios. But the lack of a telephoto lens drastically limits the photography experience in my opinion. I can zoom in with the main camera of course, but the quality suffers even at 2x magnification, and anything beyond that gets you extremely soft results that are not even worthy of quick social media posts.

It is understandable why the Galaxy A52 doesn’t get a telephoto camera. Samsung cannot put all its eggs in one basket. The company has other devices to sell, and putting every feature imaginable into a single phone would mess with Samsung’s agenda, which is to flood the market with as many smartphones as possible to fend off the stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers. Sadly, it’s an agenda that stops one of the company’s best mid-range phones ever from achieving perfection. Or at least from getting as close to perfection as possible for a device that isn’t a flagship.

However, if zooming capabilities aren’t important for you, the Galaxy A52 remains a great proposition if you’re in the market for a mid-range phone. And if you really do want a zoom camera, the Galaxy A72 gives you one while keeping all of the other features of the Galaxy A52, although the extra price you have to pay may not feel like it’s worth it as the two phones are a little too similar to each other.

Do you own a Galaxy A52? How do you like the phone? Do you think you’re missing out on any important features or is the phone perfect for your needs? Let me know down in the comments!

[Poll] Should Samsung replace the Galaxy S22 with the Galaxy Note 22 next year?

Samsung has already confirmed that it won’t be launching the Galaxy Note 21 this year. This is disappointing for Galaxy Note fans who look forward to a new model every year. The ongoing chip shortage has been cited as one of the reasons why there’s no Galaxy Note 21.

Perhaps that’s why the company brought S Pen support to the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will also have support for the S Pen. Those who love Samsung’s stylus still have options, even if the Galaxy Note 21 is missing.

With the chip shortage not ending anytime soon and Samsung’s high-end lineup as crowded as it already is, should the company do things a bit differently next year? It could launch the Galaxy Note 22 instead of the Galaxy S22 and then alternate between the two every year.

This would require a significant change to the company’s strategy. The Galaxy S series gets three new models every year that target the entire flagship price spectrum. The Galaxy Note series only gets two. It’s also historically been launched in the second half of the year. The Galaxy S devices are often the first Android flagships in the new year.

There’s absolutely no indication of Samsung even thinking about such a change but do you, as a Galaxy Note fan, feel that this would be the best way to ensure the survival of the series? Vote below and share you thoughts with us in the comments.

Samsung Smart Monitor now available worldwide in even more sizes

The Samsung Smart Monitor was launched in November last year. It’s unlike any monitor the company has launched before. Powered by Tizen, the Smart Monitor can double up as a TV. There are two models in the lineup, the Smart Monitor M5 and Smart Monitor M7.

Samsung made them both available initially in Canada, China and the United States. The M7 has a 32-inch display with 4K resolution. The M5 has a Full HD 27-inch panel. It has today announced the global availability of the Smart Monitor and a couple of new sizes.

Samsung Smart Monitor gets even better

Both of these monitors have a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 178-degree viewing angle, 250 nits peak brightness and HDR10 video playback capability. 10W stereo speakers are also integrated.

Powered by Tizen 5.5, the Smart Monitor can run apps like Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, YouTube and more. It offers AirPlay 2, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 4.3, HDMI 2.0 ports and even a USB Type-C port on the M7.

A larger 43-inch model of the Smart Monitor M7 is now available. The M5 gets new 24-inch model that’s also offered in a new white color option. The Smart Monitor come with a solar cell-powered remote control.

The company has also bought over Samsung TV Plus to these monitors. It’s Samsung ad-supported free TV streaming service that provides access to hundreds of live channels and on-demand content. The Universal Guide feature will provide content recommendations based on user preferences on apps like Netflix and Prime Video.

Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa will now be available on the monitors as well alongside Bixby. Next month, the Remote Access feature will be updated to “PC on Screen” to allow for simple connectivity between the monitor and external PCs.
