Recent Galaxy S6 and S6 edge (32GB) buyers can take advantage of T-Mobile Memorial Day Weekend deal, too

Memorial Day, like all other US holidays, brings carrier discounts, rebates, and exclusive deals. In the case of T-Mobile, the nation’s “UNcarrier” is feeling a bit more of the holiday spirit than its other three rivals (although we’re sure they have Memorial Day deals of their own).

T-Mobile has decided to let its customers purchase the 64GB Galaxy S6 and 64GB Galaxy S6 edge at the price of its 32GB GS6 and S6 edge models, but recent buyers, as can be expected, are now feeling a little “buyer’s remorse” due to the new deal for new customers. Recent buyers, have no fear: T-Mobile has heard your complaints/cries and has extended its deal to you as well. Well, at least those who purchased their devices within the last two weeks, that is.

If you are within the “Buyer’s Remorse” period, that is, the 14-day period in which you can return a device without penalty (such as restocking fees), you can return your 32GB Galaxy S6 or S6 edge and receive a 64GB device of either model at no extra charge. Since you’re returning the device within the 14-day period granted by T-Mobile, you shouldn’t face any restocking fees. Buyers of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge’s 64GB models can receive an $80 credit from T-Mobile due to the new deal.

T-Mobile announced the news earlier this week, and this should ease the minds of some storage-hungry consumers who can never save enough data on their device(s).

To take advantage of this deal, hit up the source link below, then visit T-Mobile online or your local carrier retail store.

Are you a T-Mobile customer interested in this deal? Do you intend to get this deal and make your Memorial Day weekend one to remember? You know what to do in the comments.

Galaxy Tab S 10.5 also gets Android 5.0.2 on Sprint

In less than a fortnight the four major wireless networks in the United States have released the much awaited Lollipop update for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. AT&T started off the chain reaction when it released Lollipop for this tablet first and then T-Mobile followed up with the update on its network. Yesterday Verizon came through as well and released Android 5.0.2 for Galaxy Tab S 10.5 users. Only Sprint remains and today it finally takes care of this matter.

Sprint has updated the support document for this tablet to reflect that software version T807PVPU1BOE3 is rolling out today over-the-air for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. It will bring the device up to Android 5.0.2 so users get all of the new features, the new Material Design user interface and all of the performance tweaks that this update makes. Today’s release also removes the Lumen toolbar from the tablet on Sprint, brings stability and performance improvements as well as some very important bug fixes. Now that Sprint has updated the tablet on its network as well all LTE models of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 in the US have been taken care of, those who own the Wi-Fi only model got Lollipop a couple of months back.

Samsung ‘CHOPIN’ tablet with Intel processor and 4GB RAM spotted on Geekbench

We have already reported that Samsung is building several new tablets which it intends to release in 2015 and one of those tablets just might have been spotted on Geekbench. An unannounced Samsung tablet bearing codename “CHOPIN-LTE” has been spotted in the database of devices of the benchmarking website. The results show that it has an Intel processor hooked up with 4GB RAM.

Details are slim at this point in time but the results show that it has an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 processor that’s manufactured on the company’s 14nm Cherry Trail platform, with four cores clocked at 2.24GHz as well as 8th-generation Intel graphics. Geekbench awards it a single-core score of 1005 and a multi-core score of 3426. No information about the display, battery, cameras and other features is available right now, only that the tablet will come with Android 5.1 Lollipop installed. If these specifications are anything to go by it seems that this might be a high-end tablet that’s currently in the pipeline at Samsung, or it could merely be a prototype that the company is testing which never sees the light of day. It’s too soon to say for sure.

Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (Wi-Fi) price drops to $279

Samsung’s Galaxy Note and Galaxy Mega series bear testimony to the fact that Samsung never gets tired of large screens. So, it’s not surprising that a majority of the deals on Samsung Tab S tablets often favor the 10.5-inch Tab S instead of its “smaller” sibling.

At the same time, however, the Tab S 8.4 is an excellent tablet for its thinness, lightness, Android functionality, and Samsung’s own unique contributions. With that said, we’re pleased to bring you a sale on the Tab S 8.4 today from online retailers Amazon and Newegg.

Amazon and Newegg have the Tab S 8.4 (Wi-Fi version only here) on sale for $279, down from the original price tag of $399. This pertains to the 16GB version, not the 32GB, so you won’t have as much storage for the new price as you’d like. Still, you’re looking at an 8.4-inch, Super AMOLED display with Quad HD (2,560 x 1,600p) resolution, a 2.1MP front camera, 8MP back camera, Samsung’s Exynos 5 octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, with the new 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard, Bluetooth 4.0, and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. The Tab S 8.4 (Wi-Fi) has been updated to Lollipop, so no worries there.

If you’re ready to get this tablet and experience Lollipop, now’s as good a time as any. Be sure to watch our review before you do, and preview Lollipop on the Tab S 8.4 if your curiosity’s got the better of you.

Blue Topaz and Green Emerald Galaxy S6 and S6 edge not coming to Canada any time soon

A few days back Samsung announced the launch of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge in Blue Topaz and Green Emerald. The company had shown off these color options when the handsets were unveiled in March but initially it only made the devices available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire and Platinum Gold in almost all markets. Customers in Canada who may have been waiting for these color options might have to keep waiting because Samsung Canada has said that there are currently no plans to bring the Blue Topaz Galaxy S6 and Green Emerald Galaxy S6 edge to the country, all while Best Buy gears up to sell them in the United States.

In a statement provided to a local publication Samsung Canada says that there’s no information right now on Canadian availability of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge in the aforementioned colors. Customers in Canada who want to purchase Samsung’s latest flagships will have to make do with Black Sapphire, White Pearl or Platinum Gold for now until those options are available. Blue Topaz is exclusively available with the Galaxy S6 whereas the Green Emerald color is exclusive to the Galaxy S6 edge.

Samsung Z1 launch in Sri Lanka expected as Tizen Store starts accepting paid apps

Samsung’s Tizen OS powered smartphone, the Samsung Z1, has only been released in a couple of countries so far and it appears that the company is gearing up for a launch in a new market. The Tizen Store has started accepting paid applications from developers based in Sri Lanka, this was confirmed through an email that developers received earlier today.

Samsung Z1 was first released in India and then in Bangladesh and unofficial reports claim that so far the company has been able to sell 500,000 units in these markets. Sri Lanka might add to these figures when the relatively cheap Z1 debuts there though Samsung is yet to officially confirm when it will release the device in the country. Today’s email to developers shows that Samsung is sticking with its 100% revenue share promise, developers will receive all of the revenue from their paid app sales through January 31, 2016.

Sprint Galaxy Note 4 receives factory reset protection in new update

Sprint is rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy Note 4 today, the carrier’s shouldn’t keep their fingers crossed for Android 5.1. That’s not what today’s update is about, it merely adds a feature that was removed from the initial Lollipop build that was released for Samsung’s devices. The factory reset protection feature finally comes to the Sprint Galaxy Note 4 through this software update.

As the name suggests this feature adds an extra layer of protection before a device can wipe itself clean. This feature was part of Lollipop but it wasn’t included in the Lollipop update that was originally released for devices like the Galaxy Note 4, which is why Sprint is sending it out through another OTA update. When the feature is enabled the device won’t wipe itself clean before a passkey is entered, this will stop thieves from simply wiping stolen devices and later selling them to some unwitting buyer. Software version N910PVPU2BOE1 is being rolled out by Sprint today for the Galaxy Note 4 and it also features bug fixes aside from the factory reset protection feature.

Samsung looks towards the Middle East for growth in the high-end sector

The global smartphone market has witnessed a slowdown in recent quarters but things are different in the Middle East where customers’ purchasing power is significantly higher, which is why companies like Samsung and Apple are increasingly focusing in that region. Samsung particularly wants to retain its top spot in the Middle East which is why it wasn’t surprising to see it choose Dubai as the launch pad for a world tour event across seven countries for promoting the Galaxy S6.

Latest data from market research firm IDC shows that on May 20 the total smartphone supplies to six Gulf nations, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates combined posted a growth of 32 percent year-over-year. That’s pretty steep considering that the global smartphone market barely hung on to 10 percent growth rate during the same period.

Since purchasing power is high smartphone manufacturers can aggressively push their premium products and in Samsung’s case that would be the Galaxy S6 edge. Samsung has recently launched a couple of promos to market the handset and the promos are set in Dubai. Apple certainly won’t let Samsung take the lead easily, the company is reportedly going to open its largest retail store in the world inside Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates later this year.

Budget SM-T561 tablet receives Bluetooth certification

We exclusively reported back in February that Samsung is working on new budget tablets that will be released later this year. A few weeks back we came across a new 9.7-inch tablet that’s currently in the pipeline, it seems to be one of the budget tablets that Samsung has lined up for 2015. The specifications of the tablet, model number SM-T561, have already appeared online through GFXBench and now the tablet has received its Bluetooth certification.

The Bluetooth certification document reveals that this tablet has Bluetooth 4.0, there’s not much else mentioned in it. Usually Bluetooth certification is taken as an indication that the device is nearing launch and this has proved to be true on several occasions, so it’s likely that Samsung might be unveiling this tablet in the near future. SM-T561 has a 9.7-inch display with 1,290×800 pixel resolution, a 1.3GHz quad-core Spreadtrum SC8330 processor coupled with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The GFXBench listing for this device mentioned no cameras which suggested that back then it was in early stages of development, it’s likely that the SM-T561 will come running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Galaxy A8 will apparently have a 5.5-inch display

Last month we reported exclusively on the specifications of the Galaxy A8 and just yesterday brought you more inside information regarding this device. Initially it was believed that this device will be released only in China but we’re told that Samsung will release the Galaxy A8 in various markets across Asia and Europe as well.

The Galaxy A8 is expected to come with an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It’s also going to have a 5-megapixel front camera, 16-megapixel rear camera, LTE support and a 3,050mAh all packed into a metallic frame that’s 5.9mm thin. While it was first believed that the Galaxy A8 is going to have a 5.7-inch display, the handset has been spotted on GeekBench which reveals that there’s actually a 5.5-inch display on this device. Everything else appears to be the same as reported before. It is unclear at this point in time exactly when Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy A8.
