Samsung has a plethora of phones and tablets in its lineup, and regularly releases firmware updates for various devices. These can include major updates, which bring a newer version of the OS to a particular device, or minor ones that improve performance and stability and fix bugs. Software updates for Samsung devices roll out in various regions every day, and you can find out which firmware updates were pushed out by the company over the last 24 hours through our firmware list.

As usual, you can download each of these firmware from our firmware section (simply enter your device’s model number to view all firmware for that device) in order to update to a new firmware manually, or as a means to return to your phone or tablet’s stock software.

Verizon’s Galaxy Note 5 gets listed on benchmark with Exynos 7420 CPU, 4GB of RAM

No auto-ejecting S Pen on the Galaxy Note 5 gotten you all disappointed in Samsung’s upcoming flagship? Well, maybe the latest leak that confirms that the phone will have 4GB of RAM will do something to improve your mood. Verizon’s version of the Galaxy Note 5 has been spotted on the GeekBench with the aforementioned amount of RAM, which we had exclusively confirmed would debut on Samsung’s smartphone lineup with the fifth-generation Galaxy Note.

GeekBench says the processor on the phone is an octa-core 64-bit Exynos 7420 – we had heard from our sources that the CPU could be the Exynos 7422, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. This is, however, a good sign that Sprint’s listing of the Note 5 was more of a placeholder, given it listed a Qualcomm processor and 3GB of RAM (and a microSD slot.) The Note 5′s scores are similar to those achieved by the Galaxy S6, and frankly, the Exynos 7420 is so good that we aren’t surprised Samsung isn’t making any changes to it for devices in the near future. The device that went through the benchmark was running on Android 5.1.1, as expected.

With the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 so close to taking place, we can expect the phablet to make considerably more appearances on benchmarks as Samsung and its partners start testing it. That means we will see more features get confirmed before Samsung can take the wraps off its next big thing, including important ones that have a certain part of the Galaxy Note consumer base up in arms.

Korean media says the Galaxy Note 5 S Pen won’t have an auto-eject mechanism

All the mock renders of the Galaxy Note 5 and its cases had everyone thinking the phablet would come with a new way of removing the S Pen, that users would be able to just push it in to make it pop out. But the latest report out of the Korean media is refuting that the S Pen on the Note 5 will have an auto-eject mechanism, and will require users to pull it out manually like they have been doing every existing Galaxy Note device.

We aren’t really surprised about this – DDaily’s report also confirms that the Note 5 will have the same design elements as the Galaxy S6, and putting an auto eject mechanism behind all that glass and metal would be a difficult task for Samsung. The report reiterates that the battery will be sealed in because of the glass back; it also mentions that “both sides were bent”, but it’s unclear if it is talking about the Note 5 or the Galaxy S6 edge, which it compares the phablet to (the report is translated using Google, so we’re not really sure.)

DDaily also says the Gear A will accompany the Galaxy Note 5, something we have already confirmed in the last couple of months. Are you disappointed that the S Pen on the Galaxy Note 5 will have a manual ejection function? (We know people are not going to like the non-removable battery, but that’s a discussion for another day.)

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 set for late August release

Everybody is excited about the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 and the latest news places the device for a late August release. We also have some new information regarding the Galaxy Note 5′s build, especially the S Pen which seems to have a whole new ejection mechanism.

Ringke recently revealed a Galaxy Note 5 case which doesn’t seem to include any S Pen ejection mechanism. This could potentially mean that the S Pen has a manual ejection system, or you could simply pop it out with your fingers like we’ve been doing for the past Note devices. It’s also worth noting that the Galaxy Note 5 will have a battery pack which is sealed by a special chasis. The phablet is designed with a glass surface in mind for both the front as well as the back, with a metal frame around it.

It also seems like we’re not far away from the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus release which is also pegged for August. The phablet will be very similar to the Note 5 but will have a curved display and it won’t feature a stylus. And that’s not all for Samsung, because August 13 is also the release date of a new piece of wearable tech called the Gear A. This smartwatch will have a round display which is unlike any Samsung smartwatch we’ve seen thus far.

Samsung Pay won’t work on rooted devices

Samsung Pay was announced back in March this year alongside the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge, the payment service supports both near field communication (NFC) and magnetic secure transmission (MST) which allow merchants to accept payments using Samsung Pay without having to purchase any costly equipment. The company has started a live trial of the service on a limited scale in South Korea and those who are looking forward to using it should keep in mind that Samsung Pay won’t work if you have rooted your device.

It has not been confirmed as yet precisely when Samsung Pay is going to be launched in South Korea and the United States, it could happen next month alongside the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ launch. Once the service goes live in the launch markets Samsung will then work on expanding it to other markets across Europe and China. Users will have to ensure that their devices are not rooted or else they will not be able to use Samsung Pay, if a user with a rooted device does try using Samsung Pay they will be presented with an error message which prompts them that “Samsung Pay has been locked due to unauthorized modification.” This means that users will have to choose between the two, either they can keep their rooted device or give that up for the luxury of paying through their Samsung smartphone.

SK Telecom starts selling the Galaxy A8 in South Korea

We reported a few days back that following its initial launch in China the Galaxy A8 is going to make its way to Samsung’s home base where it will be exclusively sold through SK Telecom. The carrier has started selling Samsung’s thinnest smartphone yet today for 649,000 won – that’s close to $560. Some might think that this is too much to ask for a mid-range smartphone but then again this happens to be one of the most feature-packed mid-range smartphones that Samsung has ever produced.

Samsung Galaxy A8 features a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with an octa-core Snapdragon 615 process underneath that’s hooked up to 2GB RAM. It also features a 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, 16GB internal storage with microSD card support, fingerprint sensor LTE and a 3,050mAh battery. All of this is housed in a metallic body that’s just 5.9mm thin. Samsung is yet to reveal if it plans on bringing this handset to any other markets in the near future.
