You can update Galaxy Buds firmware using your computer as well

You would normally use the Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone to update the firmware for your Samsung wearable device. That is, without a doubt, one of the easiest ways of installing new firmware on the device. There is another way, though. You can update Galaxy Buds firmware using your Windows or Mac computer as well.

Update Galaxy Buds firmware via a PC

Samsung has created a dedicated app which will allow you to update Galaxy Buds firmware through a Windows or Mac computer. It’s a lightweight app that doesn’t do much beyond installing the latest firmware update on the device.

The app is called Galaxy Buds Manager and it’s available for both Windows and Mac from Samsung’s website. We have tested it out with the Galaxy Buds and it does work as intended. Samsung rolled out an update for the Galaxy Buds today. We installed it on one pair with the Galaxy Wearable app on a Galaxy S10 and on another pair using Galaxy Buds Manager with a Windows PC. Both pairs were successfully updated to the same firmware version R170XXUOASC4

This will come in handy when, for some reason, you don’t have access to your phone and want to update the firmware on your wireless earphones. Or when you’re just too lazy to go get your phone from across the room. Either way, the Galaxy Buds Manager has got you covered.

New Galaxy Buds update fixes the battery level indication issue

Samsung’s new redesigned and rechristened Galaxy Buds are receiving a software update as we speak. It’s a tiny update, but comes with a couple of important bug fixes. The update is rolling out with software version R170XXUOASC4 and weighs a mere 1.32 MB.

Galaxy Buds now indicate correct battery level

Apparently, Samsung’s new wireless earphones were not indicating the battery percentage correctly. The new update fixes this issue. You should see the accurate battery percentage in the Galaxy Wearable app going forward. The update also fixes a bug in the ambient sound menu. This is about the function that adds surrounding sound to your music, so that you know what’s going on around you. Lastly, the new update brings a more stable Bluetooth connection, though we cannot say we had complaints before.

To update your Galaxy Buds, open the Galaxy Wearable app while the buds are connected to your smartphone. A pop-up should appear if an update is available for your Galaxy Buds. You can also manually check for updates by going to the Galaxy Buds section of the app and then tapping About earbuds, followed by Update earbuds software, and finally, Download and install.

Have you updated your Galaxy Buds to the latest software version? Do let us know if you notice any difference after the update.

Galaxy A90 ‘Notchless Infinity’ display confirmed on Samsung website

We have known for a while now that Samsung is working on the Galaxy A90. Earlier reports suggested that this could be the first Galaxy A series handset with a pop-up camera. That would mean its display won’t have any notches or punch holes for the selfie shooter.

There have been conflicting reports about the camera mount but it now appears that placing your money on a no-notch display will be a good bet. A page appeared on Samsung Indonesia’s website which mentions that the Galaxy A90 will have a “Notchless Infinity” display.

“Notchless Infinity” display will only be on the Galaxy A90

Samsung doesn’t do conventional notches for its phones. It introduced a variety of display solutions last year which include the Infinity-O, Infinity-U and Infinity-V. The Infinity-O is pretty simple. It places the camera in a cutout within the display itself. The other two aren’t as big as the notches found on different devices. However, they do make their presence felt on the display even if they house just a single front camera.

The reference to a notchless display for the Galaxy A90 was spotted by our friends over at GalaxyClub on Samsung Indonesia’s website. There’s a line at the end of a promotional page for Samsung’s upcoming April 10 event which means that the “Notchless Infinity screen only available on Galaxy A90.”

The page didn’t have a render of the Galaxy A90 so it’s as yet unknown what the camera placement would be like on this device. The promotional page has been taken down but its cached version is available from Google. According to recent reports, the Galaxy A90 will have a sliding, rotating mechanism for the camera. This would mean there will be only one camera system with a rumored 48-megapixel sensor which could be used as a front and rear camera.

It will allow the front of the Galaxy A90 to be all display with no notch or punch hole. We will get to know for sure come April 10 when Samsung’s next Galaxy Event takes place.

Samsung develops industry-first 3rd-gen 10nm DDR4 DRAM

Samsung, the world’s largest memory chip maker, has developed a 3rd-generation 10-nm-class (1z-nm) 8Gb (eight-gigabit) DDR4 DRAM, an industry-first product. The announcement comes just a week after the company started mass producing the world’s highest-capacity 12GB LPDDR4X RAM chip, another industry-first product.

Samsung plans to begin mass producing the new 8Gb DDR4 in the second half of this year. The company is targeting the next-generation enterprise servers and high-end PCs coming next year.

Samsung further pushes the limits of DRAM

The new 10nm DDR4 is the industry’s smallest memory process node. It has more than 20% higher manufacturing productivity compared to the previous 1y-nm version, and will push the limits of DRAM solutions with ultra-high performance and power efficiency. Also, the 3rd-gen DDR4 production uses no Extreme Ultra-Violet (EUV) processing, further pushing the limits of DRAM scaling.

Samsung expects the 1z-nm DDR4 to pave way for a speedy arrival of the next-generation DRAM interfaces such as DDR5, LPDDR5 and GDDR6. Interestingly, Samsung developed this 3rd-gen DDR4 just 16 months after it began mass producing the 2nd-gen 10-nm-class (1y-nm) 8Gb DDR4.

“Our commitment to break through the biggest challenges in technology has always driven us toward greater innovation. We are pleased to have laid the groundwork again for stable production of next-generation DRAM that ensures the highest performance and energy efficiency,” said Jung-bae Lee, executive vice president of DRAM product & technology, Samsung.

Samsung is well poised to respond to increasing market demands of DDR4 DRAM. The company will be “actively collaborating with global customers to deliver an array of upcoming memory solutions”. Samsung has already confirmed that it will launch a second memory plant in Pyeongtaek, South Korea next year.

Samsung confirms the Galaxy S10 5G release date is April 5

Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy S10 5G release date today. It was initially supposed to release the device by the end of this month. The release had to be delayed due to ongoing discussions between carrier partners and the South Korean government. The company today confirmed that it will release the first 5G-enabled device on April 5 in South Korea.

There will not be any pre-order program for the device, Yonhap News reports. The Galaxy S10 5G is also expected to release in the United States in April. It will initially be exclusive to Verizon in the country. The carrier has confirmed that its mobile 5G network will launch on April 11.

Samsung once again aims for the world’s first title

After launching the world’s first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, Samsung is now eyeing the title of putting the world’s first 5G smartphone on the market. Verizon is gearing up for the launch of its mobile 5G service on Motorola’s Moto Z3 in Chicago and Minneapolis on April 11. That device doesn’t have an integrated 5G modem like the Galaxy S10 5G. Customers will be required to purchase the 5G Moto Mod if they want to use the phone on a 5G network.

Samsung will comfortably beat it to market when its 5G flagship launches on April 5. The device has already passed the signal verification test from South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency. It was reported yesterday that the South Korean government was hastening the launch of 5G services in the country after Verizon announced the April 11 date. It really wants South Korea to be the first country in the world to have commercial mobile 5G.

Although Samsung hasn’t yet revealed the pricing of the Galaxy S10 5G, industry watchers expect it to cost around 1.5 million won ($1,332) in South Korea. Launch offers include free Galaxy Buds and a wireless charger for the customers who register the phone from April 5-16. Samsung is also offering a 50% discount on one-time screen replacement with the validity of 1 year.

Samsung Galaxy A6+ Android Pie update now rolling out

Samsung has rolled out the Android 9 Pie update for a handful of mid-range devices this month. The devices that have received it so far include the 2018 iterations of the Galaxy A9, Galaxy A8, Galaxy A8+ and the Galaxy A7. It’s the Galaxy A6+’s turn today.

The company is rolling out the Galaxy A6+ Android Pie update today. It’s out in Poland and will soon be available to users in other markets across the globe.

Galaxy A6+ Android Pie out in Poland

The Galaxy A6+ was launched to fill the gap in Samsung’s premium mid-range lineup which include the Galaxy A8 and the Galaxy A8+. It offered the right mix of features taken from both the affordable and mid-range Galaxy J and Galaxy A series. We noted in our Galaxy A6+ review that while it’s a good phone, it’s let down by its high price tag.

Samsung has released firmware version A605FNXXU3BSC6 for the Galaxy A6+ in Poland. It brings all of the features that are part and parcel of Android 9.0 Pie in addition to Samsung’s One UI. The latest security patch for the month of March 2019 is included as well. The update is available over-the-air and it’s also available from our firmware database.

We have already covered all of the new features in One UI in considerable detail. You can also check out our One UI video demo to find out more about the new user experience. Owners can manually try downloading the Galaxy A6+ Android Pie update by heading over to the Software update section of the Settings app and tapping on Download updates manually. Have you received the update yet in your country? Drop a comment below and let us know.
