This just might be the best Galaxy S6 edge unboxing video ever

There’s certainly no shortage of unboxing videos of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge from tech publications and the people who picked up these new handsets, Samsung even went so far as to create an “in-boxing” video of its new flagship. The company recently released a new video online and it just might be the best Galaxy S6 edge unboxing video ever created.

It’s everything you expect from an amateur unboxing video on YouTube, the unsteady filming and the obligatory “Hey, what’s up guys” greeting at the start. However things get really interesting a few seconds in when our hero receives a message that “they’re coming,” cue an action sequence that will be perfectly at home in a James Bond flick. He fights off some bad guys, throws garden pots at others and then rushes to the roof where he makes his escape in a helicopter. Once he’s safely away he gets back to business and starts explaining the Galaxy S6 edge’s ability to run two apps at once.

This is certainly one of the most creative spots that Samsung’s marketing team has come up with, it’s entertaining and fun to watch while it also manages to convey the message across. The Galaxy S6 really is the smartphone you need.

Samsung and Absolute Software bring anti-theft protection to Samsung Galaxy tablets

Samsung’s anti-virus software implementation on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge show the company’s rising preoccupation with mobile security and protection in a world that continues to see cybercrime grow by the millisecond. Now, the company has partnered up with mobile security management company Absolute Software Corporation to see to it that Galaxy Tab tablets protects from internet and real-world crime.

Samsung South Africa made the announcement earlier this week in a company press release. The software created by Absolute is called Computrace, and the software (as the name suggests) is designed to track a Galaxy Tab tablet in the event that it is stolen from its owner. Computrace is even effective at reactivating and catching a criminal in his theft and use of the device – even if the individual decides to do a factory reset and wipes the device clean. The reason behind Computrace’s “regeneration” has to do with the fact that the software is embedded within the firmware and not just the software experience. Customers must subscribe to the service to take advantage of this anti-theft capability.

The entire Galaxy Tab range is under consideration here, but Samsung’s most prominent tablet lineup, which includes the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 4, would be the first recipients of the new Samsung-Absolute anti-theft software campaign.

At this time, however, Computrace is only valid for South African residents, with no indication regarding whether or not such a feature would ever make its way to other devices worldwide. At the same time, we do know that mobile security and protection have become paramount for Samsung – due in some small part, no doubt, to the Korean manufacturer’s staunch fruit rival who’s been extremely vocal about the supposed lack of protection on Android devices.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update coming next week

We reported earlier this month when the Lollipop update for the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 entered testing, T-Mobile didn’t say back then when it would start rolling out said update for the Galaxy Note 4. Now though we have official word from the carrier about when users can expect this update to arrive. T-Mobile has certainly taken its sweet time in bringing this update to the Galaxy Note 4, considering the fact that rival carriers AT&T and Sprint have already released this update to their subscribers.

Senior product manager at T-Mobile Des Smith revealed via Twitter that the carrier has received technical approval for the Galaxy Note 4′s Android 5.0 update, and that the OTA rollout should begin next week. T-Mobile subscribers only have to wait for a couple of days now before they too can get a taste of Lollipop on their device.

Latest promos for the Galaxy S6 talk about design and performance

Over the past week Samsung has released many promos for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge that explain several features of these new handsets. The company has released two new promos in the “smartphone of your dreams” series which focus on the devices’ design and performance. They’ve got the same sassy and upbeat vibe we’ve seen in the previous promos.

The first promo highlights the beautiful lines and the sturdy body of these devices topped off with a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 4 for enhanced durability. Samsung’s technologically advanced process to create the dual-edge display for the Galaxy S6 edge also gets a mention in this promo aside from a brief explanation of the People Edge feature.

In the second promo Samsung’s 14nm 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor is the star as its exceptional performance and increased power efficiency takes center stage, aided by 3GB LPDDR4 RAM. Samsung wraps it up by mentioning the UFS 2.0 internal memory and the amazing 557 pixel per inch Quad HD resolution display, reiterating once again that the Galaxy S6 is indeed the “smartphone of your dreams.”

Samsung reportedly considering a dual-camera device for 2016

A report out of Korea suggests that Samsung might be working on a device for 2016 which is going to have a dual-camera on the back. It’s not entirely a new idea because we have seen HTC do this with the One M8, the handset featured a dual-camera setup on the back and the secondary camera was used to capture depth information to enhance effects like bokeh, as well as allowing users to refocus the image after it has been captured. According to the report dual-camera is actually “the new buzzword” at Samsung.

It’s not immediately clear how far along the testing process is and if the results will be satisfactory enough for Samsung to bring a dual-camera device to market next year. The report isn’t clear on what purpose the dual-camera setup will service, perhaps it might be used to adjust backlight brightness, allow smoother zooming and tracking of fast-moving objects aside from bokeh effects and refocusing of captured images. The report cites a spokesman for Samsung Electronics saying that the company has four concepts of dual-camera setups currently in testing and it expects to adopt this technology “in the first half of next year.”

UK carrier says Galaxy S4 mini won’t get Lollipop due to memory limitation

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini owners who have been keeping their fingers crossed for the Android 5.0 update might not be willing to hear this, a carrier based in the UK has revealed via Twitter that the Lollipop update will not be coming to the Galaxy S4 mini due to memory limitation. This device was released back in 2013 and does support KitKat, clearly its hardware is not capable enough to ensure a smooth user experience on Lollipop.

The official support account for UK’s Three network was asked a few days back by a customer if it had any idea if or when the Lollipop update would be released for the Galaxy S4 mini on its network. After a couple of days the carrier replied that there are no plans for Lollipop on the Galaxy S4 mini “due to memory limitation.” Galaxy S4 mini users on the network who have been holding out for Lollipop should probably consider upgrading to a device that’s capable of running Lollipop.

Galaxy S6 edge demand increases, Samsung opens new production line

Sometimes, a company can be too optimistic in its expectations regarding consumer sales and manufacture too many smartphones and devices that do nothing more than sit on shelves. In other cases, companies can simply find their “cup running over” with regard to device demand from consumers.

Samsung stands in the latter camp and got it right this time.

The company decided to do as so many successful companies do: produce just enough Galaxy S6 edge models to accommodate early adopters who couldn’t wait to get the most innovative smartphone on the market currently in their hands. What Samsung didn’t know or couldn’t have foreseen at the time, however, is that the Galaxy S6 edge would prove to be the smartphone in highest demand. And now, we have one more sign of the S6 edge’s success: the Korean manufacturer has now had to open a third production factory to handle customer demand for the latest Samsung device.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Samsung’s decision to open the third factory (known as the A3 production line) will allow the company to manufacture 2.5x the amount of screens in one month. Samsung says that it will now be able to manufacture 5 million screens now instead of the former 2 million screen output – meaning that the Galaxy S6 edge may be able to keep up with the growing demand for the device. Samsung had planned to open the production factory in June, but has opened it two months earlier (yet another sign that everything’s coming up roses for a company that some tech analysts and consumers believed lost its “edge” in 2014).

The Galaxy S6 edge has borrowed the curved display Samsung first announced in its Note Edge released last Fall around the same time as the Galaxy Note 4. The “curve” has become the signature trademark of Samsung, with the company now placing the unique display onto its Super Ultra High-Definition (SUHD) TVs (creating curved SUHD TVs), and its Gear S smartwatch. The device itself features a 5.1-inch, Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440p (around 577ppi), a 3.7MP front camera with f/1.9 aperture, 16MP back camera with f/1.9 aperture, the company’s homegrown octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a minimum 32GB of storage with a 2,600mAh battery and in-built wireless charging. The Galaxy S6 edge runs on Lollipop, Google’s latest sweet treat for the Android operating system.

With the curve becoming the new, unexpected “curveball” in mobile tech for the company, we can only demand one thing from Samsung: a Galaxy Tab Edge at some point in the near future.

Refurbished Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (16GB) on sale for $209.99

The Tab S has been discounted on eBay this week, but Amazon’s deals are excellent, too. One of the favorite online retailers is back with a Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 tablet sale. You can now own one of Samsung’s best tablets yet for just $210.

While you’re getting an 8.4-inch screen here (which may prove to be the sweet spot for some consumers who think a 10-inch tablet is too wide), the display and display resolution are two things that make this tablet a must-have. The Quad HD display (2,560 x 1,440p) is the standard when it comes to gorgeous displays (just take a look at the Quad HD display on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge to see this).

The TabPRO 8.4 also features 2GB of random access memory (RAM), 16GB of storage, a 2MP front camera, 8MP back camera, and runs off of a 2.3Ghz, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The Snapdragon 800 is a bit long in the tooth at this point, considering that Qualcomm has manufactured the 801, 805, and 810 processors since then. The Snapdragon 820 is on the way, and Samsung is likely to have a large hand in the new processor (though we don’t know when). The TabPRO 8.4 shipping from Amazon runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, and Samsung has a 90-day warranty for the product. It is “certified refurbished,” Amazon says – just so you know.

The TabPRO 8.4 has been updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat in a number of places around the world, but you may find your device is still sitting on 4.2 Jelly Bean for now. One more thing: the TabPRO 8.4 comes in both black and white colors – with the white TabPRO 8.4 costing $20 more than the black model ($229.99).

With a price drop of 48% for this device, you can’t be disappointed. Head on over to the link below and get yours while supplies last.
