Galaxy A10 finally gets the Android 11 update

Samsung has been excellent in terms of software updates over the past year. The company has already released the Android 11 update to most of its smartphones and tablets released over the past two years. The South Korean firm has now started rolling out the Android 11 update to the Galaxy A10, which was launched in early 2019.

The Galaxy A10 (SM-A105F) has started getting the Android 11 update in India. The latest software comes with firmware version A105FDDU6CUH2 and includes the June 2021 security patch. The software update brings a lot of new features and a refreshed UI design to the Galaxy A10. New features include chat bubbles, one-time permissions, auto permissions reset, conversations section in the notifications area, a dedicated media player widget below quick setting toggles, video backgrounds for the call screen, and redesigned Device Care section.

The new software also includes improved and updated versions of stock apps like Calendar, Gallery, Messages, My Files, Reminders, Samsung Internet, Samsung Keyboard, and others. Digital Wellbeing and parental control features have been improved as well. The Galaxy A10 also gets bug fixes, device stability improvements, and better security and privacy with the latest software update.

If you are a Galaxy A10 user in India, you might have already received a notification of the new update. If you haven’t, you can check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software Update and tapping on Download and install. You can also flash the firmware manually after downloading the latest firmware file from our firmware section.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A10 in March 2019 with Android 9 Pie. The device received the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update last year, and the Android 11 update released today could be its last major Android OS update.

OnePlus used the wrong copy machine to troll Samsung

OnePlus is a big fan of Samsung, and the company let the entire world know this when it named its 2020 earbuds the “Buds” and “Buds Z,” and when it essentially copied Samsung’s One UI design for its Android skin called Oxygen OS. So, maybe OnePlus is not as much of a fan as it is a company that wishes it had its rival’s success. At any rate, OnePlus’ latest exhibit further cements its market position relative to Samsung.

OnePlus went on Twitter hours ago to announce a surprise event scheduled for August 11 at 10:00 AM ET / 4:00 PM CET. Samsung fans will immediately realize that OnePlus’ new event overlaps with Galaxy Unpacked, and it’s no coincidence. However, the company’s ambitions to troll Samsung on its big day might backfire, and here’s why.

This will only serve to remind people why Samsung’s beating OnePlus

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is the accumulation of a lot of research and development. It’s the place where the South Korean tech giant will reveal its flagship products that will serve to push the company into 2022, and it’s a pretty big deal for Samsung fans.

This year’s event will host the reveal of the Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch series, the Galaxy Buds 2, and of course, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

So how’s OnePlus planning to compete with all this? With what appears to be a rushed-out event put out just to annoy Samsung and a teaser for an obscure non-foldable dual-screen phone, the latter of which looks more like an LG GX8 ThinQ copy than anything else. LG, as you might be aware, retired from the mobile business earlier this year due to a shrinking market presence and poor sales.

This mysterious OnePlus dual-screen phone seemingly has hidden under-display camera technology, or no selfie cameras at all, because no notches are visible. This looks like another attempt to steal the spotlight from the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and its leaked under-panel camera.

Whether or not OnePlus will succeed in its quest to divert attention from Samsung remains to be seen, but what’s very obvious is that this new dual-screen phone doesn’t even exist in the same class as the Galaxy Z Fold series. It’s more like two phones stuck together with not a lot of effort, which means this whole stunt could backfire on the Chinese OEM.

At first glance, this dual-screen phone has the characteristics of a poor attempt at copying a proven concept at the surface level (Xiaomi at least tried harder). And if it was created as a marketing stunt for the sole purpose of annoying Samsung, it could be quickly forgotten in the shadow of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and it might not enjoy great firmware support.

So, come 10:00 AM ET tomorrow, what will it be? Will you be joining OnePlus for its dual-screen phone reveal and miss out on one of the mobile industry’s biggest tech events? Or will you join Samsung at Galaxy Unpacked 2021 and witness history in the making?

August 2021 update reaches unlocked Galaxy S21 models stateside

It’s been less than a week since wireless carriers across the United States started pushing out the August 2021 security update to the Galaxy S21-series devices on their networks. Today, the unlocked versions of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra are following suit. The download you want to be on the lookout for is labeled as the release G99XU1UEU4AUGE.

This stateside deployment started alongside an identical release in Canada. And speaking of Canada, Rogers is rolling out the same security patch level to all Galaxy S21-series devices on its network as of today, as well.

Calm before the sto… nevermind, another security update incoming

It’s safe to say this won’t be the biggest Galaxy flagship news to come out of this week. What with the biggest Galaxy Unpacked event of the year being just 24 hours ahead of us. Regarding the Galaxy S21 series, owners of Samsung’s first batch of 2021 flagships can rest easy for about… three more years, and then some. As far as timely security patches are concerned. Not to mention that they have Android 12, and Android 13-based One UI updates to look forward to.

With that said, we’re hearing the Galaxy S21 line hasn’t been doing too great, sales-wise. This is likely why Samsung has been diversifying its portfolio this year and placing a larger emphasis on mid-tier devices such as the latest additions to the Galaxy A range. Maybe things pick up in the second half of the year, or whenever consumers realize how critical having a regularly updated smartphone truly is to their everyday lives. That’ll happen anyday now… right?

Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 spec sheet shows up in the wild…again

It is hard to keep track of just how many times the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have been leaked by now. Numerous reports have shown us both foldables in their entirety, even speculated about their tentative prices. Once again, the entire Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 spec sheet has shown up online, this time via Twitter leaker Sudhanshu Ambhore.

Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip spec sheet get one key specification wrong

Starting with the Galaxy Z Flip 3, we get a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel clocked at 120Hz and a secondary 1.9-inch screen for notifications. Two 12MP cameras (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle) handle photography. The primary lens has an aperture of f 1.8 and supports optical image stabilization. Although the spec sheet says that it can record 8K video, that is physically impossible for a 12MP sensor to pull off, so that part is incorrect.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 gets a Snapdragon 888 SoC along with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Connectivity options include 5G (probably only sub-6GHz networks), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6. Lastly, the smartphone draws power from a 3,300mAh that supports 15W fast charging. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 also has an IP68 rating, something is quite rare for a foldable.

Moving on to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, its 7.6-inch inner AMOLED display has a resolution of 2,208 x 1,768 pixels, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and a layer of ultra-thin glass for protection. The cover display uses a smaller 6.2-inch 2,268 x 832 pixels AMOLED panel which is also clocked at 120Hz and has the same properties as the inner panel. There’s a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass to protect it from daily wear and tear.

Contrary to previous reports which speculated that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 would run a Snapdragon 888+, the foldable is rumoured to run a Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, for some reason. This is at odds against earlier leaks which told us that up to 512GB of storage would be supported. Once again, the spec sheet incorrectly states that the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 12MP camera sensor will be able to record 8K video.

For the most part, the triple 12MP array on the phone is identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, but there are a few minor upgrades here and there, such as PDAF support on the ultra-wide-angle lens. The cover display on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will use a 10MP camera sensor for selfies, while the inner display will use a 4MP under-panel camera. The phone’s 4,400mAh battery supports 25W fast charging over a cable and wireless charging as well.

Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 employ a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. At this point, the only mystery is how much each foldable will cost, but we have a good idea about that as well, making tomorrow’s launch event somewhat predictable.

These Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3 lifestyle images will make you go ‘wow!’

Foldable smartphones are here to stay, whether we like it or not, and there’s no denying the fact that the design and feel is a big part of their charm. Samsung’s certainly got that part down pat with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3, as you can see in newly leaked lifestyle images of the two foldables that will make you go “wow!”.

These images show the two devices from a variety of angles, and, like the promo video that leaked earlier this week, confirm some of the big features, like water resistance and S Pen support on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. We get to see all the beautiful Galaxy Z Flip 3 colors, as well, and yet another reminder how Samsung’s clamshell foldables are designed to be the ultimate fashion statement.

We’re a little over a day away from Samsung’s official Unpacked event, where the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be in attendance, alongside the Galaxy Buds 2 and the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. We’re still hoping Samsung has a “one more thing” moment prepared to surprise us all after these extensive leaks have effectively ruined the experience already, but we’re keeping our expectations low and would advise you to do the same.

Of course, that doesn’t mean we won’t be tuning in tomorrow, and here’s how you can do the same. We’ll have lots of content of our own around the new products for you to check out, so watch out for that, as well!

This Samsung rollable smartphone concept will blow your mind

The smartphone industry is no stranger to rollable smartphones, with TCL and OPPO showcasing the technology in their concept devices. Samsung knows a thing or two about rollable screens, too, as it demonstrated its rollable OLED TVs not too long ago and . Now, a new patent application sheds light on what could be Samsung’s first-ever rollable smartphone.

We’ve come across a similar Samsung patent not too long ago, but this one has a lot more information in it. LetsGoDigital partnered up with a concept artist to create some stunning renders of Samsung’s first rollable smartphone. In the illustration above, we can see a Samsung phone with a display that extends outwards, similar to what we’ve seen with the OPPO X 2021. One can increase the screen size by up to 50%, effectively putting it in ‘tablet mode’.

In its extended state, the screen is effectively left hanging, as the chassis does not support it anymore. Thankfully, the screen has quite some heft to it, due to a secondary frame that supports it. Therefore, it should be able to hold its own for most daily use cases. One could even potentially use an S Pen on the screen without having to worry about flex.

Setting it down on a flat surface will be a headache, though, as the two uneven screens will cause the phone to wobble. Samsung also plans on using multi-link hinge structures and elastic materials films to smoothen the transition between the folded and unfolded state, which will work in tandem with the roller.

Among other things, the mystery Samsung rollable smartphone will also pack three rear camera modules and an under-display selfie camera. Users will be able to extend and retract the smartphone’s display via a dedicated toggle in the system UI. While the smartphone looks good on paper, it is unlikely to hit shelves anytime soon.

Companies often file patents years (or even decades) in advance to mitigate the risk of future legislation. While Samsung may have the technological know-how about how to create a rollable smartphone, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there will be one in the market soon, even though there have been some indirect hints.

Besides, all the rollable smartphones on the market exist as concept devices, inaccessible to the average consumer. At best, we’ll get a tech demo in the next year or so, which is about as good as it gets for rollable smartphones. Nonetheless, Samsung’s take on them should be one to watch out for.
