Galaxy C9 with 6GB of RAM stops by Geekbench

It was just one month ago that we leaked Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy C9 smartphone for China and said that it may have specs similar to the Galaxy A9. After seeing the device via Zauba with a 5.7-inch display and the A9-matching 6-inch display, the device has now appeared at Geekbench and gives away some important information regarding the handset.

First, it seems as though the earlier 5.7-inch display size was a prototype, since Geekbench shows the Galaxy C9 as having a 6-inch display, along with a 1.4Ghz, octa-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, 6GB of RAM, with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow pre-installed. Yes, the Galaxy C9 (bearing model number SM-C9000), has 6GB of RAM — more than Samsung’s high-end Android handsets for 2016: the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S7 Active, and the Galaxy Note 7 all have 4GB of RAM, not 6GB. Samsung is also said to be working on a Galaxy C5 Pro and Galaxy C7 Pro as well.

Now, if you’ve been keeping track of our coverage here, the Galaxy Note 7 was rumored to launch in China with 6GB of RAM (it was spotted on Geekbench, too) some weeks ago before Samsung launched the device in the region with 4GB of RAM instead. As we’ve said here at SamMobile before, Samsung has had a difficult year in the Chinese market, with low-cost OEMs building devices for far less than the retail price of Samsung’s high-end “Galaxies” and launching them at ultra-affordable prices. Samsung said at the time that it was considering the launch of a 6GB RAM Galaxy Note 7, but for reasons unknown, failed to launch it. A Note 7 box with 6GB of RAM mentioned in the spec list indicates that the 6GB RAM Note 7 rumor may not be quite laid to rest just yet.

Here, though, we see that the Galaxy C9 has 6GB of RAM, but keep in mind that this too, can change between now and the launch of the device at some point. The Galaxy C9 is a China-exclusive device, and, in keeping pace with other OEMs there who’ve launched 6GB RAM smartphones, we could see Samsung starting the launch of 6GB RAM devices.

What do you think? Will this device launch with 6GB of RAM, or do you think Samsung will have a change of heart before the launch? Would you like to see a device with 6GB of RAM make its way worldwide?

Samsung will reportedly relaunch the Galaxy Note 7 in India on October 7, aggressive marketing push expected

Samsung was supposed to launch the Galaxy Note 7 in India on September 2 but it ended up confirming the Galaxy Note 7′s battery cell issue and immediately suspending sales as it needed to replace all existing units first. As a result of the global recall, customers in India who had pre-ordered their units were sent messages informing them that their shipments will be delayed. A new report out of the country suggests that Samsung is going to relaunch the Galaxy Note 7 in India on October 7. The launch is said to be accompanied by an aggressive marketing push to inform customers that the new units are completely safe.

Samsung is said to prominently highlight that new units being sold in India have been manufactured separately and are not refurbished versions of the ones it has recalled in its marketing efforts in the country. Samsung is said to aggressively market the Galaxy Note 7 as it seeks to counter the iPhone 7 in one of the most lucrative mobile markets on the planet. Apple has recently been focusing on the Indian market as it seeks to increase its share so it really is in Samsung’s interest to ensure that people retain confidence in its products, particularly the Galaxy Note 7 since its successor isn’t due until late 2017.

Another Galaxy S7 edge has apparently burned for no apparent reason

Weng Briones from The Philippines claims her Galaxy S7 edge starting burning on its own for no apparent reason. She has posted pictures of her phone on Facebook which clearly show that the device has been through intense temperatures. Briones told a local news outlet that her 16-year-old daughter was tweeting on her phone when it heated up and started emitting smoke. They splashed water on the phone and later covered it up with a wet towel.

She took her phone back to the Samsung store where she purchased it from and told them that she wanted a refund and did not want to exchange it for a new one because she was worried that it might happen again. She praised representatives at the store for their service who refunded her the full cost of the Galaxy S7 edge. The staff at the store didn’t say what caused the handset to do this but Briones says that she was later contacted by the company’s marketing head in the country who told her that Samsung will look into this incident.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about a Galaxy S7 series handset burning up for no reason. A man named Daniel Ramirez has sued Samsung in the United States claiming that his Galaxy S7 edge caught fire while it was inside his pocket and caused second-degree burns to his leg. A woman in the United Kingdom recently claimed that her Galaxy S7 started burning up unexpectedly and some footage of that incident was released as well.

Samsung has not said whether there are any battery issues with the Galaxy S7 series as well like there are with the Galaxy Note 7. It has been looking into these reports and is yet to provide a detailed explanation. Samsung is having to deal with false reports of the Galaxy Note 7 burning up as well, it has even singled out reports where external heat was applied to make it seem like it was the Note 7′s fault.

Samsung delays resumption of Galaxy Note 7 sales in South Korea

Samsung suspended sales of the Galaxy Note 7 earlier this month when it confirmed the handset’s battery cell issue and said that it’s going to replace all existing units first. It is yet to officially restart sales. Samsung confirmed recently that it’s going to resume Galaxy Note 7 sales in its home market on September 28 but the company has now ended up delaying the resumption of sales. However, customers in South Korea will not be made to wait for too long.

The company has said that it has pushed back the relaunch of the Galaxy Note 7 in South Korea by three days to October 1 because it needs the extra time to complete the recall process. Samsung has said that so far only 200,000 recalled Note 7 units have been exchanged, this number represents half of all units sold in the country prior to the recall being announced. It believes that the recall rate may fall sharply if sales are resumed on September 28 and urges customers to turn in their handsets to get a safe Galaxy Note 7. They really should go through with the process because domestic carriers in the South Korea will no longer allow customers to exchange their Note 7s after October 1.

Samsung was also urged by the South Korean government to extend the refund deadline for customers who don’t wish to exchange their units and would like to get their money back. Samsung has agreed to the demands and extended the refund deadline as well. It’s also going to conduct some additional tests on the batteries in new Galaxy Note 7 units as requested by the country’s standards agency.
