Leaked Galaxy S21 camera housing hints at Terminator-styled design

A real-life photo of what’s purported to be the triple-camera housing intended for the Galaxy S21 leaked online earlier today, adding even more credence to the possibility of quite a significant design departure compared to this year’s Galaxy S20 range. The image featured below was sighted less than a week since we got our first good look at the design Samsung supposedly greenlit for the next generation of the Galaxy S family.

While the initial reaction to this sort of mixture of elements reminiscent of the Terminator’s half-melted face wasn’t universally positive, most initial reactions seem to at least be cautiously optimistic about this new design language. Especially given how the number of lenses embedded into the backs of our flagship smartphones will only continue increasing for the foreseeable future.

For added reference, we already saw how this new aesthetic is likely to reflect on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy S21+.

Has Samsung figured out how to make a bunch of cameras look not ridiculous?

Finally, assuming this leak is legitimate, then its timing is yet another indicator that the Galaxy S21 lineup will be launching earlier than usual. This possibility has been rumored about for a while now, with Samsung reportedly rushing its next flagships to the market as an attempt to orchestrate a strong start to the year following a pretty underwhelming 2020. Not to mention the fact there is currently one less enormous rival to worry about in the flagship segment, with Huawei being out of the picture for the time being.

All things considered, it would appear Samsung is preparing to announce the Galaxy S21 range in January instead of February, meaning its next trio of high-end smartphones should hit the market about a month in advance, as well. That’s still just a tentative name, mind you, as the company may still decide to market the new products as part of the Galaxy S30 series.

These Galaxy S21 colors are claimed to be ‘100%’ confirmed

A new leak claiming to be “100%” accurate presents us with the Galaxy S21 color options that will be available with all three variants of Samsung’s next flagship. The rumors about the new handsets have picked up pace in recent weeks and they won’t be slowing down any time soon.

Samsung will once again be offering three variants of its next flagship smartphone – the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Some renders have also appeared online, giving us our first glimpse of the design.

Galaxy S21 color options revealed in new leak

This particular leak comes from Ross Young, a display industry analyst who goes by @DSCCRoss on Twitter. He claims that the Galaxy S21 will be offered in Gray, Pink, Violet and White colors while the Galaxy S21+ will be available in Black and Silver colors. The Galaxy S21 Ultra will get Black, Silver and Violet colors.

Some of his predictions have turned out to be accurate in the past but it’s pertinent to note here that he did get a few things wrong as well, like the Galaxy Note 20 not getting an Ultra variant, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 having an S Pen and having a different camera setup than the one it comes with. Nevertheless, this claim about the Galaxy S21 colors is said to be a “100%,” so we’ll see how it turns out.

It’s likely that these won’t be the only color options that Samsung offers for the new flagship series. The company is known to offer exclusive colors to carriers and even the boy bands it teams up for marketing purposes. It’s safe to say that we’ll be hearing more about the colors in the months to come.

The handsets will reportedly be manufactured in South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil. Nothing new here as it’s already known that these are the countries where Samsung phones are made.

SamMobile has already revealed that Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy S21 series in early January next year.

New One UI 3.0 beta update for the Galaxy S20 in USA fixes tons of issues

Samsung has just released the second One UI 3.0 Android 11 beta build for the Galaxy S20 in the USA. The second beta update carries firmware version G98xU1UEU1ZTJG and Galaxy S20 owners who participate in the public beta testing phase should now be able to download it over the air.

The latest update weighs around 576MB and includes the October 2020 security patch though that is to be expected given that the same security level was included in the previous update. But more importantly, the new release fixes a handful of issues that came to light in the first One UI 3.0 beta build.

Improvements to DeX, storage, camera and more

One UI 3.0 beta 2 for the Galaxy S20 series in the USA should fix an issue that prevented the phone from booting normally when the internal storage was full. Similarly, it should address an issue that causes the phone to reboot when receiving a call.

Samsung also fixed a bug that prevented users from seeing photos inside the Gallery if the files were stored on the microSD card. In addition, users should now be able to change the font size in DeX without encountering any errors, and no network errors should occur when receiving MMS. Samsung also mentioned improvements to the quick panel and Camera.

If you’re enrolled in the One UI 3.0 public beta program for the USA, you should be able to download the latest beta firmware update on your Galaxy S20 by opening Settings, accessing Software update and tapping Download and install. Once you apply the update, feel free to let us know in the comment section if you’ve found any other improvements, additions, or even new issues.

Samsung India unveils tempting deals for 2020 festive season

Samsung India today announced a variety of new deals meant to signal the start of this year’s festive season. The company says its number one focus during the holiday period is to deliver a “hassle-free” shopping experience. Meaning we’re looking at a continuation of the aggressive retail strategy it has been pursuing for the better part of this year – with pretty encouraging results, at that.

The so-called “My Samsung My Combo” offering is at the front and center of this new swath of deals. As that name implies, the scheme is meant to allow for multiple device purchases under a single EMI. Which should make managing financing contracts significantly easier than what has been the case so far.

Samsung wants to offer EMIs with less hassle

EMIs start at between Rs. 1,790 for two products to Rs. 3,390 for four – or Rs. 2,490 for a trio of purchases. In order to facilitate the launch of these new financing deals, Samsung set up a helpline for over 1,200 partnered distributors across the country, in addition to training more than 11,000 retail staffers on these new offers.

The newly announced EMI schemes can be combined with cashback deals and other 2020 festive promotions Samsung India introduced earlier this month, all of which will be valid until November 20th. Those include discounts on a wide range of smartphones such as the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy A31, as well as Samsung’s latest 8K QLED TVs and AI-infused Family Hub Refrigerators, among other things.

This is our first look at the middle-of-the-road Galaxy S21+

The alleged design of the Galaxy S21+ was recently unveiled in a series of RAW CAD renders, and assuming that the information is accurate, the middle-of-the-road flagship will share a lot of design cues with the base Galaxy S21 model.

In fact, it’s difficult to spot any differences between these new Galaxy S21+ renders and the ones that have supposedly described the base Galaxy S21 model last week. They reveal the same button placement, camera housing, and display design as before, and this lends more credibility to the idea that the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ will have a similar design with a flat screen whereas the Galaxy S21 Ultra will be the only model in the series to feature a curved display.

A different design philosophy compared to 2020

Samsung’s 2020 flagship phones including the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 models have made a bold statement regarding their rear-facing cameras. The Korean tech giant wanted to highlight the camera system as much as possible and it designed the camera housing to stand out as a result.

Samsung appears to be backtracking on this design philosophy with its upcoming Galaxy S21 flagship series, at least to a degree. The camera bump is still there but it is less obvious than before. Two of the camera housing’s edges are flush with the phone’s frame to create a more seamless transition.

This isn’t an evolutionary design step as much as it is a different design path. It will be interesting to learn about the thought process behind the Galaxy S21 series next year when Samsung should reveal its design stories.

As for the Galaxy S21+ renders at hand, they are accompanied by a few technical details and the phone is said to measure 161.5 x 75.6 x 7.85mm. The flat Infinity-O display is expected to have a 6.7-inch diagonal.

WFA approves One UI 3.0 and Android 11 for the Galaxy S20 LTE / 5G

The Galaxy S20 series was the first to enter the One UI 3.0 Android 11 public beta program in early October and Samsung has been working diligently on the update ever since. The availability of the public beta program kept expanding into new markets and Samsung continues to release new beta builds, each bringing One UI 3.0 and Android 11 closer to a widespread release.

It’s unclear exactly how close the final release is, but it looks like the most important parts of the update may have already been completed. The base Galaxy S20 model running Android 11 was certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance earlier this week, indicating that the OEM might be readying the first non-beta One UI 3.0 public build for launch.

The Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra have yet to be certified

A handful of base Galaxy S20 variants have been spotted in the Wi-Fi Alliance database running Android 11. At the time of writing, such certificates exist for the Galaxy S20 LTE and 5G, and they include model numbers destined for the international and US markets.

The Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra haven’t received the same treatment. However, they more or less follow the same development process as the base model so they should earn their Wi-Fi approvals sooner rather than later.

Exclusive: Galaxy F onslaught begins as Samsung prepares new phone

Rumors about a new Galaxy F series emerged earlier this year, initially leading people to believe that it would be related to foldable phones. That’s because the model numbers for Samsung’s foldable phones start with “F” but they’re actually a part of the “Z” series.

We later found out that the first device in this mysterious series was the Galaxy F41. It wasn’t really a new device since it was basically a rebadged Galaxy M31 with a few missing features. This series is going to be around because Samsung is now working on another Galaxy F device.

New Galaxy F series device is now in development

We hear that a new Galaxy F device is now being developed. Details are extremely limited at this time but we do know that it carries model number SM-F127G. Samsung will likely be calling this the Galaxy F12s based on its naming habits. This is a new series, though, so who knows, it may just launch as the Galaxy F12.

It’s safe to assume that this is going to be an entry-level device. Samsung’s devices get progressively better as the numbers go up, for example, a Galaxy A10e is far less capable than the Galaxy A51. That’s what we can expect for the Galaxy F series as well.

Whether or not this will be an entirely new device or another rebadged phone remains to be seen. Like the Galaxy F41, we expect Samsung’s entire focus to be on selling the phone in India. Expect to see more Galaxy F-branded phones going forward. As if Samsung doesn’t already make enough phones as it is.

There’s no information as yet regarding pricing and availability. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out.

Latest Galaxy Z Fold 2 ad is pretty much an homage to Apple

Even the most passionate Samsung aficionados will concede that its brand messaging often came down to “we’re not Apple”.  And while the latest ad for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 definitely belongs to that category, it’s as much an homage to the iPhone maker as it is meant to be a cheeky parody of its marketing endeavors. At least, that’s the vibe we’re getting from the billboards featured herein.

We recently spotted this advertising in the immediate vicinity of one Apple Store in the Netherlands, but chances are, we’re looking at the beginning of another international marketing campaign. So, definitely let us know if you see something similar in your area.

Samsung ready to take on the iPhone 12 directly

It’s certainly no coincidence that the timing of the ad matches today’s release of the iPhone 12, which will be Samsung’s number one rival this fall. The Korean juggernaut appears to be well aware of that fact, especially now, as it’s getting ready to conclude a pretty underwhelming year, sales-wise.

Be that as it may, Samsung had a decent head start in the high-end smartphone segment, especially when it comes to 5G devices, which is a category it completely dominated for over a year at this point. And while the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has pretty much no chance of becoming one of the best-selling smartphones of the year, it’s a tempting proposition to consumers interested in the very best of what the tech industry has to offer. Which is a point that this newly spotted ad likely wants to drive home.

Samsung showcases its lifestyle TVs at BTS-themed pop-up store in Korea

As a part of its partnership with K-pop music band BTS, Samsung has announced that it will showcase its lifestyle TVs at a pop-up store in South Korea. The pop-up store is located in Garosugil in southern Seoul, and BTS fans would be able to purchase BTS-themed products and apparel.

Although the BTS pop-up store is mainly designed as an online store, it will have some retail stores in the country, and the first of them is being opened in Garosugil. Samsung has placed its The Serif TVs on the main floor of the store on which BTS fans can watch introductory and music videos (including ON and Dynamite). The company has also placed a 155-inch IFJ series 4K LED display on the second floor of the store, and the display can output 1,200 nits of peak brightness while playing HDR scenes.

Samsung designed the Serif TV in collaboration with Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, a French furniture designer, and it resembles a canvas board for painting. From the sides, it resembles an I in the serif font family. Like any other premium TV from Samsung, The Serif has a 4K QLED panel and features HDR10+. It also features other bells and whistles, including Bixby, Google Assistant, Alexa, and One Remote.

Choo Choo-Seok, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Video Display Division, said, “We are excited to be part of the global superstar’s carbon-free project, which is delivering a message of comfort and hope to the world through music.” Samsung had recently started displaying BTS music videos on its TVs in retail stores worldwide.
