This Galaxy Fold video shows the foldable in action, confirms some specs

Everything Samsung is expected to announce at its Unpacked event on February 11 has leaked extensively in recent weeks. If you thought the leaks would slow down in the final few days leading up to the event, you’d be very wrong. In yet another Galaxy Z Flip leak, we can see Samsung’s upcoming clamshell foldable phone in action. This time, we get to see the phone booting up from a powered off state, and we also get to see some of the phone’s specs.

Most interestingly, the video reveals how the display can stay open at an angle, which is no doubt going to be the defining feature of this foldable phone (we saw this in a previous video as well, but that was taken down). It tells us that Samsung didn’t just set out to make a new foldable device with a different form factor – the company has also worked on making sure it stands out from the Galaxy Fold and from the competition, particularly the Motorola Razr.

As for the specs, we can see there’s a Snapdragon 855 processor on the phone along with 8GB of RAM. There’s 256GB of storage, which we had revealed to be the case many months ago. Also confirmed is the 6.7-inch display size (6.67 inches, to be exact) and the screen resolution. It’s a custom resolution of 1080×2636 pixels, which we haven’t seen on any previous Galaxy phone because none of them have featured a display as tall as the one on the Galaxy Z Flip.

You can check out the video below. Fair warning: You might want to skip watching it if you’re planning to tune in to the Galaxy Z Flip’s official Unpacked launch and want to have some element of surprise left.

Galaxy Z Flip and S20 Ultra case renders highlight key design differences

The upcoming Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Z Flip are fundamentally different, especially when it comes to their exterior design. The Galaxy S20 series continues a decade-long legacy of so-called ‘candy bar’ smartphones, while the Galaxy Z Flip leverages flexible display technology to revive an all-but-forgotten form factor, i.e., the clamshell.

As recently highlighted by a handful of leaked case renders, these key design differences between the two series are carried over to their accessories as well. And much like the original Galaxy Fold, the Z Flip’s official cases are made of two pieces – one for each half of the phone.

They will be available in black and silver/gray according to the source, and they will cost a pretty penny; presumably around $100 per set. But if you have the money to spend, nothing is stopping you from buying both color options and mixing and matching them together.

Despite their differences, the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip are expected to launch for similar prices, and even more so than the cases, they’re not going to be cheap. Prospective buyers who will want to protect their investment will have a lot more choices when it comes to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, and they’ll be able to pick the usual LED Back Cover cases, silicone cases, and stand cases as before. This year, they might even get the option of buying a third-party Kvadrat case.

The Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Z Flip will be unveiled next week on February 11 at Unpacked. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you up to speed.

Latest Galaxy Z Flip leak shows the dreaded crease

Samsung’s new foldable phone has posed for the cameras once again. Engadget has published photos that were sent in to the publication from one of their readers, and they show the phone in both the folded and unfolded state. We get to see just how tall the Galaxy Z Flip is and also a crease in the middle of the foldable display. Since these photos were taken at an angle, the crease looks more pronounced, but as we’ve realized after using the Galaxy Fold, the crease becomes a non-issue after you use the device for a week or two.

What isn’t clear is if the display is covered by glass. The Galaxy Z Flip is said to use ultra-thin glass, which might be why we can’t notice anything. The photos also us the thick bezels around the display and how thick the phone itself will be when it’s folded shut, especially at the part where it folds and unfolds. That’s to be expected from a foldable phone with a clamshell design, though, and it’s not likely to bother anyone who might pick up a Galaxy Z Flip when it goes on sale later this month.

The Galaxy Z Flip will be unveiled in San Francisco on February 11 at Samsung’s Unpacked event. We will have boots on the ground over there and will bring you all the information you need on the company’s new foldable phone and also the Galaxy S20 series and the new Galaxy Buds+. Well, all the information that hasn’t already leaked, that is.
