Galaxy A30 and J8 get new update and May 2020 security patch

Samsung’s May 2020 security patch rollout continues with two additional Galaxy models having been updated recently, namely the Galaxy A30 (SM-A305F) and Galaxy J8 (SM-J810F). The recent updates carry version numbers A305FDDS5BTE3 and J810FJXU4BTE2, respectively.

As far as the Galaxy A30 is concerned, the update brings the May 2020 security patch in Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Meanwhile, the Galaxy J8 is getting the update in Ukraine and Caucasus countries. The update for the Galaxy A30 should include only the May 2020 security patch. It was detailed a couple of weeks ago and it fixes various security flaws affecting Android OS and Samsung’s software.

On the other hand, the J810FJXU4BTE2 build number for the Galaxy J8 suggests that new features may have been added with this new update alongside the May 2020 security patch. We don’t have a changelog yet, but we’ll keep you posted if we find out more. In the meantime, feel free to let us know if you’ve applied the update to your Galaxy J8 and noticed any new features.

To grab the latest update and May 2020 security patch for the Galaxy A30 and/or Galaxy J8, tap the notification once it arrives on your phone or go to Settings, tap Software update, followed by Download and install. New evidence hints at the Galaxy Note 20+ having a periscope camera

We have another bit of hot information regarding the Galaxy Note 20 series and specifically the larger Galaxy Note 20+ model. Our friends at Galaxy Club found out more about the flagship’s camera setup, and according to the latest, the Galaxy Note 20+ is extremely likely be equipped with a periscope-type camera module.

As yet, there’s no evidence supporting that the Galaxy Note 20 base model will also have this camera module, so it could remain exclusive to the Galaxy Note 20+. This is not the only technology that may end up being reserved for the top-tier model. Previous reports also suggest that the Galaxy Note 20+ will use a 120Hz LTPO panel, whereas the base model could be limited to a 60Hz LTPS display. Similarly, the Galaxy Note 20+ might have a 108MP camera whereas the Note 20 may or may not lack this characteristic.

No guarantee that this module is identical to the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s

What’s important to note is that although the Galaxy Note 20+ periscope-type camera appears to have a similar ‘folded’ design as the one found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, there’s no information as to whether or not this is the exact same module.

A recent rumor claims that the Galaxy Note 20+ will not have 100x zoom capabilities, and this could still be an accurate prediction even if there’s now evidence that the flagship will have a periscope-type camera module. The zoom level and other technical specifications could be different compared to those offered by the Galaxy S20 Ultra. We’re bound to find out more about the Galaxy Note 20 series before the August online unveiling, so stay tuned.

Samsung 2020 QLED TVs get up to 12 free months of Bundesliga access

Even though many sporting events have been postponed due to COVID-19, the Bundesliga continues unhindered, albeit under strict conditions with matches being closed to the public. To make up for this, Samsung in collaboration with Sky Ticket is treating 2020 QLED TV buyers and soccer fans with up to 12 months of access to the extensive Samsung Collection and Bundesliga matches that can be streamed from their comfort of their homes, free of charge.

Any Samsung 2020 QLED TV that has a German model code has been paired with an activation code for up to 12 months of free access to Samsung Collection. Depending on the TV model, they also get 6 or 12 months of Sky Ticket access, as long as they’re new customers. TV owners can acquire the code on their TVs and activate it with their respective providers.

Offer lasts until the end of 2020, it’s available retroactively

Owners of 2020 QLED TVs with a German model number can activate their code at any time throughout the year. The offer lasts until December 31, 2020. And although this campaign began on the first day of the month, Samsung now offers the code retroactively for any eligible TV that was purchased from March 1, 2020.

Aside from Bundesliga matches on the 2020 QLED TV range, Samsung Collection also offers weekly Sportworld Preview and an electronic program guide.

Galaxy Z Flip is officially and widely available for purchase in Malaysia

Three months after its original release, the Galaxy Z Flip continues to be more widely available and find its way into more markets, the latest of which is Malaysia. Although the device was offered on pre-order terms in Malaysia before, this is the first time when the foldable is outright available for purchase officially from Samsung’s online stores, its Experience Stores, and via select authorized partners including senQ, Courts, Harvey Normal, Urban Republic, Lazada, and Shopee.

The Galaxy Z Flip was originally unveiled in three color options, and buyers in Malaysia can now pick between all three. They include Mirror Purple, Mirror Black, and the more exclusive Mirror Gold.

Samsung Malaysia is targeting the female audience

Although the Galaxy Z Flip is a great foldable device for everyone, there’s no denying that it was developed with the ladies in mind, and Samsung Malaysia’s marketing material (seen below) highlights this fact even more.

As detailed in SamMobile’s A woman’s view opinion piece, the phone is fashionable, it’s compact, and it has a unique design that’s always a conversation starter. It’s no slouch either, and even though it doesn’t pack the Snapdragon 865 SoC like the Galaxy S20 series does, the Snapdragon 855+ found under its hood remains a competent solution for the high-end segment.

The Galaxy Z Flip is now available in Malaysia for RM 5,888 ($1,349) and can also be acquired in exchange for RM 245.33 ($56) a month with 0% interest. Check the links below for more details.

Samsung launches premium 2020 TV soundbar lines in the U.S.

Samsung is bringing its latest and greatest soundbars to the United States in a couple of weeks’ time, the company announced Friday. The new range is lead by the HW-Q800T, an AI-infused gadget which already made waves at the latest iteration of CES where it won the Best Innovation Award. Together with new additions to the Lifestyle S and T Series, the offerings aim to raise the quality bar – no pun intended – in modern home cinema experiences.

Samsung’s 2020 TV soundbars already made their way to parts of Europe and the company’s home country of South Korea. While its U.S. arm has yet to share specific pricing details, those previous launches suggest the latest lineup will peak at around $750, which is the approximate price tag attached to the HW-Q800T in other markets.

Samsung’s 2020 soundbars combine sheer power with AI smarts

With this trio of releases, Samsung is confident in its ability to continue dominating the global soundbar market, particularly in the high-end segment. The main selling point of its 2020 products is an even more polished version of Q-Symphony, a technology that allows compatible soundbars to integrate with Samsung TVs, ultimately delivering a tailor-made viewing experience. More specifically, Q-Symphony relies on dynamic object tracking to figure out the optimal way to reproduce sound in your living room, not unlike how Google Home Max punched way above its weight several years back.

Samsung is also following up on its popular R Series with new T Series soundbars, whose 2020 iterations include the T650, T550, and the T450. The first two of those are HDMI-ready and support realistic spatial sound powered by DTS Virtual:X, with the T650 in particular boasting 3.1 surround support and a minimalist design. Finally, consumers on the lookout for a soundbar that can also double as a smart assistant will soon be tempted by the S60T, Samsung’s horn-shaped gadget with Alexa integration.

Samsung sends 300 employees to China for its chip factory expansion

The expansion of Samsung’s memory chip factory in China was stalled for a few weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the company’s Vice Chairman Lee Jae-Yong recently visited the factory to assess the operations. Today, the South Korean company said that it has sent an additional 300 employees to China to oversee the plant’s expansion.

The company said that its engineers and workers, including sub-contractors, left for Xi’an from South Korea in a chartered flight earlier today. All those employees would be exempt from the 14-day quarantine rule under the fast-track entry process. Samsung had already sent 200 engineers to the memory chip factory in Shaanxi Province last month.

Samsung’s Xi’an plant is its only memory chip production facility outside of South Korea. Production at the plant first started in 2014 and an expansion plan was announced in 2017. The South Korean semiconductor chip giant had announced that it would invest around $8 billion for the plant’s expansion. Mass production at the upgraded facility is expected to start anytime soon.

Lee Jae-Yong also met Shaanxi Province leader Hu Heping to improve business cooperation. The South Korean firm has big plans to become the world’s number one semiconductor firm by the year 2030 as a part of its ‘Semiconductor Vision 2030.’ The plan includes an investment of $115 billion so that it could defeat the likes of Intel and TSMC in terms of chip design and production.
