High-speed Samsung microSD cards heavily discounted on Amazon.com

If you’re looking for a microSD card for your smartphone or any other device that accepts SD cards, Amazon.com has nice discounts running on Samsung’s Evo Select microSD cards at the moment. 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB variants are all available for a considerably lower price than what they normally cost.

Higher the storage, bigger the discount

For $60 (40 percent off), you can pick up a 256GB class 10 card. If you own a Galaxy Note 9, you can pick up two of these for a much lower price than what Samsung’s new 512GB card is expected to cost. Don’t need all that storage? You can grab a 128GB card for $25 (also a 40 percent discount). Both 128GB and 256GB cards have read and write speeds of 100 MB/s and 90 MB/s respectively.

If you want to go even lower, the 64GB card can be yours for just $14 (39 percent off). The read speeds remain the same, but you will have to make do with 60 MB/s write speed. The 32GB card, meanwhile, is available for $7, which is 30 percent off its regular price. This one has read and write speeds of 95 MB/s and 20 MB/s respectively, so it’s a basic card fit for basic needs.

Every EVO Select Samsung microSD card comes with a 10-year warranty. To buy one from Amazon, just hit the links below.

Samsung’s AR Emoji feature isn’t optimized enough for budget and mid-range phones

Samsung has been quite serious about bringing new camera features from its latest flagships to existing devices. AR Emoji, which debuted on the Galaxy S9, is now supported on the Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy A8 Star, and the Galaxy A7, just to name a few. It also made its way Samsung’s budget lineup with an update to the Galaxy J7 Duo, and we can rest assured we will see AR Emoji on new Galaxy devices across various segments in the coming months.

I just hope Samsung plans to optimize AR Emoji to make it less cumbersome than it is at the moment.

AR Emoji has too much lag and stutter

On the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9, AR Emoji works great. It doesn’t work great in terms of how well the emojis it creates look like your real self, because it’s only a software trick that doesn’t take long enough to make realistic digital avatars of the user. But the process of creating AR Emojis is a quick affair on the S9 and Note 9, with even real-time mapping possible. On devices like the Galaxy A7 or Galaxy J7 Duo, however, there’s an enormous amount of lag when an emoji is being created. The same goes for the Galaxy Note 8 as well.

Even the general interface itself has stutter when it’s playing out animations, like zooming in on the face after you have gone through the initial process of clicking your picture and selected your gender. Perhaps the feature requires considerable processing power despite being just a software trick, which might be why no existing device got the ability to change your facial expressions in AR Emoji in real time. But as it stands, AR Emoji is simply too slow on non-flagship devices.

And I know AR Emoji is a gimmick, that some of you will point out that it’s not worth any serious discussion. But if Samsung is bringing the feature to more and more of its devices, especially existing ones and those in the budget range, the company needs to optimize the underlying code. It’s great to see the latest update for a device bring AR Emoji support with it, but it’s no use if the actual procedure of using it is slow enough to turn people off from ever trying it again.

Do you use AR Emoji on a Galaxy phone that is not a flagship device? Do you agree with my opinion that it is too slow and unoptimized?

Fresh SM-W2019 images reveal the new flip phone in all its glory

Samsung has a new flip phone in the pipeline that it’s going to launch in the coming weeks. Some fresh SM-W2019 images have surfaced online today. They show off the device in all its glory. We have previously seen some leaked images of this device as well. It appears to be quite similar in design to its predecessor, the SM-W2018.

The company is yet to confirm when this device will be unveiled. Whenever it arrives, it will only be available in South Korea and China. Samsung doesn’t launch its flagship flip phone widely as there’s not a lot of demand for it in other markets.

Fresh SM-W2019 images surface online

The SM-W2019 has already hit China’s main certification agency. This suggests that the official launch may not be that far off. Samsung announced its predecessor in December last year. It’s highly likely that we may get an official announcement for this phone around the same time this year.

The flip phone will have two Full HD resolution AMOLED displays. There will be the Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood. These images also show us that the device will have a dual rear camera. It should come with some camera software features like the Scene Optimizer as well.

Samsung’s flip phone is meant to be a premium device. We can see that it’s fashioned out of metal and appears to have a solid build. It does look and will certainly feel like a premium device. On the software front, it will most likely ship with Android 8.1 Oreo. The device would eventually receive an update to Android 9 Pie as well but who knows how long that’s going to take after it’s released.

The company will soon be confirming the official pricing and availability details for this device. It may not be more than a few weeks now before all of the details about the SM-W2019 are divulged by Samsung.

Galaxy S6 update rolling out, brings October 2018 security patch

The Galaxy S6 crossed its three-year software support period earlier this year, but as is par for the course, that isn’t stopping Samsung from releasing a new security update for the device. The Galaxy S6 is getting an update in South Africa at the moment, carrying software version G920FXXU6ERI1 and the October 2018 security patch.

Galaxy S6 October security update released

Since the Galaxy S6 is almost four years old, the new security update is unlikely to reach many markets. Samsung only updates its devices past the support period when it’s necessary. For example, South Africa’s last Galaxy S6 update came out in May, while the device was updated with the June patch in some markets later on. The October update doesn’t seem to be available for the Galaxy S6 edge just yet, but it’s probably not far behind and will make the jump to the newer software in the coming days.

You can download the Galaxy S6 October security update from the Software update menu in the phone’s Settings app. As usual, we have the related firmware available in our firmware section for those who don’t want to wait for the over-the-air release. Do let us know if the update makes any notable changes once it has been installed on your Galaxy S6 (or Galaxy S6 edge).

[Poll] Galaxy S9 will run in DeX mode without the dock on Android Pie

The Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 brought support for turning the phone’s display into a trackpad, removing the need for an external mouse to use the DeX Station. Then the Galaxy Note 9 came out with the ability to run in DeX mode with just a USB Type-C to HDMI cable, a feature the Galaxy Tab S4 supports as well. And thanks to Android Pie, DeX mode will be coming to the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

Galaxy S9 will offer desktop experience without a DeX dock on Pie

Leaked Android Pie firmware for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ have revealed a number of features that will be introduced with the next major upgrade for Samsung flagships. The ability to offer a desktop-like experience without Samsung’s DeX station or DeX Pad is one of them. We can already see it in action on a Galaxy S9+ thanks to a video published by XDA Developers, and it seems to work just as well as it does on a Galaxy Note 9. That’s not surprising as both the S9+ and Note 9 have the Exynos 9810/Snapdragon 845 SoC and 6GB RAM inside.

The regular Galaxy S9 should also be getting the feature despite having only 4GB RAM, as the Galaxy Tab S4 has the same amount of RAM and manages to run in DeX mode just fine. Of course, it remains to be seen if built-in DeX mode will make more people use the feature on the Galaxy S9 or S9+. In fact, we here at SamMobile have been wondering just how many folks use Samsung DeX, so we have added a poll below that you can use to let us know. Don’t forget to leave a comment to give us more of your thoughts on DeX.

Samsung promises foldable and 5G phones as mobile division disappoints

Samsung posted record profits in Q3 2018 which were largely contributed by its semiconductor division. This has been the case over the past few years. Samsung’s mobile division hasn’t contributed significantly to its record profit run. It’s a similar story in Q3 2018.

The company revealed today that its mobile division has reported a drop in earnings “despite solid sales of its flagship smartphones.” It attributed the decline in earnings and profit due to a decrease in sales of mid- to low-end products. Overall smartphone shipments remained flat this past quarter.

Foldable and 5G phones to diversify Samsung’s lineup

The mobile division earned 24.77 trillion won or $22 billion in revenue in Q3 2018 with just 2.2 trillion won or $1.9 billion in profit. That’s almost a billion dollars less in profit made during the same period last year.

Samsung doesn’t provide shipment figures in its earnings releases. However, it says that shipments remained flat in the quarter as increased competition in the affordable segment decreased sales.

The company now has a new strategy in place to try and regain its strong footing in the affordable segment. It blames the overall profit decline for the division on increased promotional costs as well.

Samsung predicts that its smartphone shipments will increase in the fourth quarter due to the year-end peak season. It predicts increased demand for newer models like the Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A9. Earnings are forecasted to take a dip owing to increased marketing expenses. Samsung expects competition to intensify across all segments of the market next year.

The company says that it’s going to work harder to expand the sales of its premium handsets through a diversified lineup. It also promises to improve its competitiveness in the mid- to long-term by launching foldable and 5G phones.

We may get a peek at Samsung’s foldable smartphone at SDC 2018 next week but it may not arrive until early next year. The 5G smartphone may also be due for an early 2019 release. Clearly, the company needs to do more in order to improve the performance of its mobile division.

Samsung manages expectations after posting record Q3 2018 profit

Samsung released its Q3 2018 earnings guidance last month. It predicted record profits this past quarter compared to the same period last year. Samsung expected sales of 65 trillion won or $57.5 billion and 17.5 trillion won or $15.5 billion in operating profits. That would have smashed its record for the highest profit ever in a single quarter.

The company today released its full earnings results for the quarter. It has indeed met expectations with 65.46 trillion won in revenue and 17.57 trillion won in operating profit. That’s a 20.9 percent surge in profit compared to Q3 2017. However, the company in now managing expectations as it warned of lower profits until early next year.

Record Q3 2018 profit driven by the semiconductor business

Samsung’s semiconductor business has once again driven the company to a new quarterly high. The revenue increased on the back of strong sales of memory products. There was also strong seasonal demand particularly for server and mobile memory.

The Korean giant now says that it expects overall earnings across the company to dip in Q4 2018. This will largely be due to the weak seasonality for the semiconductor market. This period of low demand will also hit the memory chip business. It expects this to impact the first quarter of next year as well. Earnings are then predicted to pick up in subsequent quarters as business conditions improve.

This two-year boom in memory chips has contributed significantly to Samsung’s record earnings. Samsung has now signalled its end by slashing its 2018 capex by over a quarter. It says that the capital spending this year will drop by 27 percent to 31.8 trillion won or $28 billion from the record 43.4 billion won last year.

Analysts expect that this capex cut should assuage the market’s concerns about further supply growth during a period when demand and prices are likely going to drop. Memory chip prices have already fallen to two-year lows. New production lines by Samsung’s rivals are coming online next year and the increased supply may push prices down even further.

Samsung says that it will continue to improve its competitiveness in emerging technologies such as AI and 5G. It aims to sustain mid- to long-term growth by doing this.

Galaxy J7 Duo update introduces AR Emoji to Samsung’s budget lineup

Samsung has been bringing many camera features from its newest flagships to mid-range devices and existing flagship phones in recent months. Devices like the Galaxy A8 Star and Galaxy S8 were updated with the AR Emoji camera mode, and the feature has now come to Samsung’s budget lineup. The Galaxy J7 Duo seems to be the first J series phone to be getting AR Emoji support, although it remains to be seen if it will make its way to other existing Galaxy J smartphones.

New Galaxy J7 Duo update also includes November 2018 security patch

The Galaxy J7 Duo should get a basic version of AR Emoji like other devices, which means it will not work in real time and, therefore, not support the Disney AR Emojis. The J7 Duo is also the third Galaxy device to have been updated with next month’s patch ahead of schedule, following the Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy Tab 2 Active. The update comes with software version J720FDDU3ARJ3 and is a 480 MB download over the air.

To update your Galaxy J7 Duo, open the phone’s Settings app, tap Software update, then select the Download updates manually option. You can also grab the latest firmware from our database and install it on your phone using your desktop computer or laptop.

[Poll] If the Galaxy S10 looks like this, would you buy it?

A recent report about the Galaxy S10 suggested that its front camera might be under the display. The company has teased this implementation of the front camera already. It has shown off others as well which give us an idea of how Samsung will go about killing the notch.

The company was never one to adopt the notch. It continues to stick to its guns even though many of its rivals have gone the notch way. The upcoming Galaxy A8s might show us how it intends to put the front camera under the display itself.

No actual images or press renders of the Galaxy S10 have surfaced online as yet. Ben Geskin has created some mockups based on the information that’s available about this device so far. It depicts a tiny hole up top which will be used for the front camera. This implementation may prevent the use of components that allow for 3D facial recognition but many would be willing to make that trade-off for not having a notch on the device.

The question is, would you be willing to buy the Galaxy S10 if it looks like this? Do you think this hole up top for the camera is a better alternative to the notch? Vote below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

Samsung’s foldable phone display might be branded Infinity-V

The Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) next month is expected to be the world’s first official look at the company’s mainstream foldable smartphone. Even if the device itself doesn’t make it, Samsung could show off a “detailed conceptual image” and highlight its features and user interface. And thanks to a trademark application, the possible branding for Samsung’s foldable phone display has been revealed.

Samsung Infinity-V could be a simple yet effective branding

Samsung Infinity-V

Samsung has recently applied to trademark the terms ‘Samsung Infinity-V’ under the category of smartphone displays. Now, we all know the company’s 18.5:9 displays are marketed as Infinity displays, so the possibility of the letter V being affixed to the existing term for the foldable phone seems high. The V could represent the foldable nature of the display, although Samsung is reportedly still deciding between two final designs for its foldable device.

Infinity-V also suggests that the foldable device will stick to the low-bezel design that has become commonplace in the smartphone industry. Samsung’s foldable phone is also said to have an external 4-inch display for quick access to notifications. With SDC set for the first week of November, we will probably learn more about what Infinity-V means and also whether it’s actually related to the foldable device.

Addicted to Fortnite? Download the Galaxy Fortnite watch face

Fortnite for Android started out as an exclusive for Samsung’s smartphones and tablets. Naturally, you can’t play these games on a smartwatch, but if you’re addicted to Fortnite and own a Gear/Galaxy smartwatch, you might be interested in a Fortnite watch face that’s available on the Galaxy Apps store.

Fortnite watch face is based on the game’s Galaxy skin

This watch face is based on the Galaxy skin that was offered to buyers of the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4, one that many people tried to obtain by walking into retail stores and using their accounts on demo devices. The watch face isn’t customizable, but if you have the Galaxy skin in Fortnite enabled on your Samsung phone or tablet, you can use the watch face to have a similar theme on your smartwatch as well.

You can download the Fortnite watch face from the Galaxy Apps store on your connected device. If you’re viewing this page on your phone, click this link to directly open the Fortnite watch face download page. Otherwise, just go into the watch section of Galaxy Apps and search for Fortnite. The first result should be the watch face.

New Samsung image sensors will further promote multi-camera phones

Multiple cameras are now the norm for smartphones. The new Samsung image sensors that have been announced today will help promote them even more. They will be able to integrate multi-camera systems in their devices with maximum space utilization.

Cameras are now an important distinguishing feature in smartphones. Manufacturers have consequently integrated multiple cameras while maintaining the sleek designs of their devices. Samsung’s new solutions will address this demand for ultra-small, high-resolution image sensors.

New Samsung image sensors will offer greater design flexibility

The 48-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GM1 and 32-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GD1 sensors are now official. They’re 0.8-micrometer (μm) pixel image sensors. Samsung launched its micometer sensors back in 2015. It later reduced the size to 0.9 micrometers in 2017.

The reduced pixel size enables these sensors to provide greater design flexibility. Camera module manufacturers can, therefore, build smaller modules or pack more pixels in existing designs. This will let smartphone manufacturers maximize space utilization in sleek, bezel-less smartphones.

Both sensors are equipped with Samsung’s latest ISOCELL Plus technology. It optimizes performance for smaller-dimension pixels. The Tetracell technology which merges four pixels into one to improve light sensitivity is present as well. These image sensors can deliver light sensitivity that’s comparable to a 1.6μm-pixel image sensor at 12-megapixel and 8-megapixel resolution, respectively. There’s support for Gyro-based electronic image stabilization as well.

Finally, the GD1 sensor features a real-time high dynamic range feature for richer color and detail. These new Samsung image sensors will be in mass production in Q4 2018. Smartphones equipped with these sensors will arrive in the coming months.

Samsung’s cheapest fast wireless charger is coming soon

A month ago, the Korean media revealed that Samsung might be bringing wireless charging to non-flagship Galaxy phones. It’s uncertain if and when that will happen, but the Korean giant now has a more affordable fast wireless charger to sell us. A new fast wireless charger with model code EP-P1100 is now listed on Samsung’s website with a price tag of €34.99.

Samsung wireless chargers to become more affordable

Samsung’s existing fast wireless charging pad costs €59.99 at the moment, while the Wireless Charger Duo that the company launched with the Galaxy Note 9 is priced at €99.99. That makes the new €34.99 charger the cheapest wireless charger yet from Samsung. Its specs are the same as the older fast wireless charging pad, but it has a slimmer and more compact design. It runs off a USB Type-C cable, which is to be expected. However, you can’t purchase this charger just yet, although that shouldn’t be the case for long since Samsung has already listed the price.

It also remains to be seen if budget or mid-range phones with wireless charging support will join the Galaxy lineup anytime soon, and whether the first such model will have fast charging support. It probably will have fast charging support, as it’s a feature that makes Galaxy phones stand out from the competition. Again, nothing is certain at the moment, but if you have been eyeing one of Samsung’s fast wireless chargers for your flagship Galaxy phone, you may soon be able to get one for cheap.

PUBG or Fortnite: Which one are you playing on your Galaxy device?

It’s not an understatement to say that PUBG and Fortnite are the most popular titles in multiplayer gaming right now. The arrival of PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) on mobile devices as a free title made it an instant hit, and Fortnite followed in August as an alternative with a light-hearted tone and Minecraft-like building elements. Fortnite’s launch on Android as an exclusive for Galaxy phones and tablets made it less accessible at first, but at this point it’s available for a number of Android devices.

PUBG vs Fortnite: What’s your poison?

If you open Samsung’s Galaxy Apps store on your phone, you will see banners for both games. But PUBG is more well known, perhaps because it has been around for longer and also because it’s available on Google Play. Galaxy phone and tablet users can grab Fortnite off Galaxy Apps, but for everyone else, installing Fortnite on an Android device involves manually downloading the APK file in the browser. Fortnite also doesn’t run on as many devices as PUBG yet, so its reach is comparatively limited.

But both PUBG and Fortnite are undeniably fun, especially when you’re playing with friends. The question is: Which one are you playing on your Galaxy device? Which one do you like better? Let us know by voting in the poll below, then tell us more down in the comments section!

Galaxy A3 (2017) October 2018 security update is out

Samsung’s last compact mid-range Galaxy A smartphone is now getting an update with the latest Android security patch. The Galaxy A3 (2017) is being updated with the October 2018 security patch in Turkey, Morocco, and the UAE. The update comes with build number A320FXXS4CRJ1.

Galaxy A3 (2017) October security update released

The October 2018 security patch fixes a dozen critical Android OS vulnerabilities and 11 critical ones discovered in Samsung’s software. Does the update include anything other than the new security patch? We’re not sure, but it will hopefully fix any lingering issues users might have since the A3 (2017)’s Oreo update was released. Samsung has already patched the one major issue A3 (2017) owners had been facing after the Oreo update, which is random reboots.

Have a Galaxy A3 (2017)? Check and see if the update is available for you by opening the phone’s Settings app, going into the Software update section, then tapping the Download updates manually option. Our firmware database has the latest firmware available for download for those looking for an alternative route to update their phone. Do let us know if you have received the update already and whether you notice anything new or different once it has been installed.

Samsung’s 512GB microSD card costs as much as a mid-range phone

The Galaxy Note 9 is the first Samsung phone to offer official support for 512GB microSD cards. However, the company didn’t have a 512GB card of its own to offer alongside the phone when it went on sale around the world. But Samsung did confirm that it would release a 512GB card at some point, and it is now listed officially on the company’s website in Germany.

Samsung’s 512GB microSD card is quite pricey

Samsung’s 512GB microSD card is part of its EVO Plus range of cards. It’s a class 10 card that can reach read and write speeds of 100 MB/s and 90 MB/s respectively and can store up to 24 hours of 4K videos and 150,300 pictures. And it comes at a premium, as expected. Samsung Germany has it listed for €289.99 ($330), which is nearly the price of the mid-range Galaxy A7. It’s also nearly triple the price of a 256GB EVO Plus card, so buying a 512GB Galaxy Note 9 would be a more affordable affair. And the price isn’t likely to drop anytime soon, although it should become cheaper in a few years as demand for higher storage capacities continues to rise.

Samsung isn’t taking orders for the card just yet and doesn’t have a release date mentioned on its website. It’s also unclear just how many markets the 512GB card will launch in. Of course, you could always opt for 512GB cards from other manufacturers if you need all that storage on your phone right away.

Android Pie will bring floating mode to Samsung Keyboard app

Android Pie will bring many new features to Samsung devices. One of those will be a floating mode for the Samsung Keyboard app. Yes, it’s a feature that Samsung phones already had a few years back. Many of these features were termed as gimmicks by the competition back then, but with popular keyboard apps like Google Keyboard (now called Gboard) recently adding the floating mode ‘gimmick’, it seems Samsung is ready to bring it back as well.

Samsung Keyboard getting new features with Pie

The floating mode option was discovered in the leaked Galaxy S9 Pie firmware by the folks over at XDA Developers. Floating mode should be a nice addition for two-handed typing on today’s big-screen phones, as it can be inconvenient at times to bring one’s fingers down to the bottom of the display. It’s a feature Samsung could release with just an app update on Google Play, but the company is likely holding it back to pad the list of features Android Pie will bring. Samsung’s Oreo update also introduced a few new keyboard features, including high-contrast themes, new emojis and stickers, and a customizable toolbar.

The Pie update will also bring user interface changes, many of which haven’t been received kindly by our readers. But there’s hope that Samsung will make everything right through beta testing. A Galaxy S9 Android Pie beta program can start any day now, so it’s only a matter of time before we can test out the keyboard’s floating mode and other new features.

Galaxy A5 (2016) October 2018 security patch update released

Another Galaxy smartphone is being updated with the October 2018 security patch this week. The Galaxy A5 (2016) is now receiving an update in various European markets. The new software version is A510FXXS7CRJ5 for some markets and A510FXXS7CRJ6 for others, but both include the latest security patch.

Galaxy A5 (2016) October security patch available in many countries

The October 2018 security patch fixes a dozen critical Android OS vulnerabilities and 11 vulnerabilities discovered in Samsung’s software. Samsung already has the November 2018 security patch out for two devices, for those who missed it, and it may be because the company is stringently following Google’s new rules for security updates for popular devices. In any case, updates have been flowing in thick and fast for various Galaxy devices in all segments. If you own the 2016 variant of the Galaxy A5, you should check to see if an update is available for your phone.

To do that, open the Settings app, go into the Software update menu, then tap the Download updates manually option. As always, you can update by downloading the relevant firmware for your country from our database. Do let us know if you notice anything new or different other than a newer security patch once you have installed the update.

Is this why the frequency of Samsung’s security updates has gone up recently?

In the last couple of months, Samsung has been doing better at releasing regular security updates for many of its devices, especially flagship phones. And part of the reason for that might be Google’s stricter contract with manufacturers. Google now mandates regular updates for devices that have been activated by more than 100,000 users (referred to as popular devices henceforth).

Google’s rules for security updates got stricter in 2018

Google had revealed earlier this year that it would be making new agreements with its partners to ensure that they roll out regular updates. Google hadn’t revealed terms of those agreements publicly, but The Verge has been able to access confidential information that sheds some light on the matter. Apparently, any device launched after January 2018 has to get regular security patches. As long as the device has more 100,000 users, it must receive regular security updates for a period of two years. And for Samsung, that’s a lot of devices

Monthly updates aren’t necessary, but every popular device must be updated with security fixes at least four times in a year. That means that every eligible device has to be protected against “vulnerabilities identified more than 90 days ago.” This rule has apparently been applied to 75 percent of each manufacturer’s popular devices in July this year. Starting January 2019, the rule will expand to cover 100 percent of popular devices in a manufacturer’s lineup.

Samsung seems to have started following the law already

And if you look at the recent uptick in how frequently Samsung updates its devices, things did start getting better around August. That suggests Samsung is already following the law for 75 percent of popular devices. That may be why 2017 flagships and budget devices have also been getting more frequent updates recently. Samsung’s flagship phones have benefited in particular, which many of you may have noticed.

However, things still aren’t great in all countries. While Samsung has been releasing monthly updates for flagships in recent months, it’s not happening everywhere. But if Google’s new contract is indeed the reason for the increased frequency of security updates, we can expect to see Samsung updating every popular device once at least every three months. The company already does that for plenty of smartphones, but starting January 2019, the update scene for Galaxy devices should get even better.

Too bad none of this extends to major OS upgrades.
