Samsung wants US carriers to speed up their Android Lollipop update rollouts

You often wonder why it takes so long for an Android update to roll out, even though Google’s made the iteration official months back. This can be a complicated thing to explain, but more often than not, the culprit is the OEM; customizing the Android skin along with its proprietary features is what makes companies take so long to deliver updates to you, the end users. Of course, a lot of testing is involved as well, which again takes a lot of time and acts as a bottleneck in pushing updates. At times though, such as in the US market, network carriers have specific variations of a particular model which means there’s even more time to be vested in order to make the update go live.

Samsung has already been rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Galaxy S5 in certain regions in Europe, but the update is yet to show up in the US market. According to reports, however, a Samsung rep has conceded that the company is pushing US carriers to make the Lollipop update official soon. And, this is not only for the Galaxy S5, but also the Note 4, Note Edge and some of its older models, including the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3. While we can’t confirm a timeline as of now, it wouldn’t be wrong on your part to expect a Lollipop update soon, given you have any one of the above mentioned phones.

Samsung launches Milk VR to bring immersive video content to the Gear VR

Bringing great content to owners of the Gear VR is no doubt one of the things Samsung is tasked with if it intends its virtual reality headset to find success. Thankfully, the company seems to be making all the right moves – Samsung has announced that it is launching the Milk VR service for the Gear VR as a technical preview. Milk VR will be focused on offering videos that provide a immersive 360-degree experience, with the content coming out at a frequent pace to keep consumers interested.

Samsung is hoping that budding artists and filmmakers will use the Milk VR service as an opportunity to bring their work to the virtual reality field, while also helping the company increase the amount of content it has for the Gear VR. It’s unclear when a stable public release of Milk VR will take place, though Gear VR users can currently download the technical preview from the headset’s home screen and download or stream videos at their leisure.

Frame of upcoming Samsung smartphone leaks, allegedly it’s the SM-G430

Samsung has quite a lot coming up next year, including the mighty Galaxy S6 and the SM-G430, details about which we leaked a few days back. Today, we caught hold of another leaked image from Samsung’s camps, one in which you can see the frame of an upcoming Samsung phone. While details about this are scarce to say the least, we assume it is the outer hood of the SM-G430. If you aren’t aware, the SM-G430 is an upcoming 5.5 incher with a 1920 x 1080p full HD resolution, with a 2.5GHz processor of unknown make. If anything, we’d assume the processor to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, simply for the fact that it operates at the same 2.5GHz, and has been a favourite among manufacturers during the past year. Also, the SM-G430 will have KitKat out of the box, or so it appears thanks to import listings that we’ve gotten hold of.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware now online

As Samsung continues to launch it’s curved screen Galaxy Note Edge phablet in markets across the world, one of the first firmware images of the device has now been made available online. The image comes from Samsung’s Finland wing, if you’re wondering. Those interested in doing a manual flash can head over to the SamMobile firmware section to get hold of the image. Images of the firmware are available localized for Luxembourg, Italy, Poland and Germany in the section.

New video from Samsung shows wonders of the Multi-Window feature on the Galaxy Note 4

Samsung has always focussed on the productivity and multitasking features of its Galaxy Note lineup of Android smartphones. Now, it has released a new 2-minute video which showcases all the features of the Multi-Window mode on the new Galaxy Note 4. This mode allows using of two compatible apps at once on the Galaxy Note 4′s large 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. The position of the apps can be changed and even the size of these apps can be altered by using the split bar between them. The video also shows how to use the apps in the pop-up window mode and keep it floated over any app in the, which is running in the background. The Multi-Window mode is also available on other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Note 3, the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy Note II, the Galaxy Grand 2, and more.

Android 4.4 KitKat is rolling out to T-Mobile’s Galaxy Tab 3

Galaxy Tab 3 owners on T-Mobile are getting a rather huge upgrade in the form of Android 4.4 KitKat, which is now rolling out to the 7-inch tablet that has been stuck on Android 4.2 ever since it launched. The update will take the tablet to the latest version of KitKat (4.4.4), and like all other updates, is making its way over the air and via Samsung Kies, with the OTA available only on a Wi-Fi connection for the initial few days. T-Mobile hasn’t mentioned any special changes, but you can expect the usual KitKat features like faster performance, white status bar icons, album art on the lockscreen, and wireless printing support.

Oh, and do keep in mind that this will probably be the last update that comes to the Galaxy Tab 3, as the device is neither that high-end or new to warrant an upgrade to another major iteration of Android.
