Tizen Z1 in Bangladesh gets OTA update

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have now officially launched worldwide, and all the eyes of the world are upon them. Android Lollipop has been pushing out to Note 3 and Note 4 users this week on various carriers (AT&T and Sprint), with others still waiting their turn.

And in the middle of all this, there are some lucky Tizen customers out there, too.

India was the proud recipient of its Tizen 2.3.0.1 update two weeks ago, and Bangladesh is now next on the list.

The Bangladesh Z1 Tizen update weighs in at a small 26.9MB, so Z1 customers won’t see anything new here. Rather, as is the case with all small, incremental updates, bug fixes will be the new gift for Tizen OS.

If you’re not seeing the update at the moment, you can always visit your settings and then select the “software update” feature to see if a little “push” won’t bring a notification to your device. If you’ve already gotten the update, write in and let us know.

Latest Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop OTA brings in new features, fixes bugs

Samsung didn’t really make a big deal out of this for some reason, but the latest over-the-air update for the Galaxy Note 4 brings in some nice new features added with some bug fixes.

First and foremost, the notoriously annoying forced close error on the Contacts app is now fixed, which should give users some respite. Other than that, the update also brings in a new feature called the Side View Panel, which essentially is Samsung’s implementation of the Pie Controls (if you’ve ever been a Nexus user). Side View Panel brings the two capacitive buttons – Back and Recent Apps – along with the Home button to the screen, thus making it easier to use the device with one hand.

Other than that, the Mute feature is back for when vibrate and sound modes don’t cut it for you. Lastly the update, details of which can be had from the screenshots below, also change the notification selection mode from All/Priority Only/No notifications to a new Do Not Disturb mode.

Verizon Galaxy S6 models now shipping, just in time for worldwide launch

Verizon’s been a little behind the other carriers in shipping its Galaxy S6 and S6 edge pre-orders, but some evidence uncovered today shows that the Cadillac of carriers isn’t wasting time getting its pre-order shipments to excited customers.

Verizon is sending emails to pre-order customers, informing them that as of today, April 8, 2015, pre-order GS6 and S6 edge models are shipping and should be at your residence soon. If you didn’t know, you can still go view the Galaxy S6 at Best Buy here in the US, to get a feel for what you can expect when your package arrives.

There are a few things we’d like to remind you about as you eagerly await your Galaxy S6 or S6 edge. First, if you order the 32GB models, you can expect 23GB of storage out of the box, although Verizon’s carrier apps could steal more storage from the remaining amount left on your device. Samsung is to be commended for increasing its storage models, since many a tech journalist has aptly stated that 16GB is not enough for the needs of most smartphone users. 32GB should suffice, and cloud storage services such as Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive will aid you in extraordinary circumstances.

Next, check your device carefully when you open the box for the first time. Some T-Mobile users are seeing scratches and dead pixels on their new beauties, and you want to make sure to spot the problems immediately so as to inform your carrier in the event you are an unfortunate recipient of a smartphone with defects right out of the box. As we reported on earlier today, Samsung’s camera flash software bug could be a problem for you if bad luck befalls you.

Then, you should charge your device. It’s tempting to have some hands-on time with the device, but you may want to charge it first, to make sure that your fun lasts a while. AT&T customers will have worse battery drain that most other US customers, since the packaging is responsible for reducing battery drain below normal levels before the customer receives the device.

Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and 8.4 now $100 off through April 11th

The Galaxy Tab S, unveiled last August, is eight months old now but is still a stellar tablet to own. Not only was it thin and light (a point Samsung emphasized in its New York “Tab Into Color” presentation), it comes with the company’s trademark AMOLED display with a “super AMOLED” resolution. Samsung produced two sizes of this tablet that was designed to take on the iPad Air 2 (didn’t emerge until October). Even at eight months old, it’s still one of the best tablets to own on the market.

Samsung agrees, and to this end, has decided to discount its iPad-rival tablet by $100 (both sizes). This means that the 16GB Tab S 8.4, priced at $399.99, is now on sale for $299.99. The 16GB Tab S 10.5, priced at $499.99, is now $399.99. And the best part of all is that these tablets both provide expandable storage up to an additional 128GB – which means that you could potentially have 144GB of storage for your device (of course, the microSD card is sold separately).

This deal isn’t long, though, so you’ll have to visit Samsung’s site and take advantage of the deal between today, April 8th, and Saturday, April 11th. Vodacom Galaxy S6, S6 edge pricing now available

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are just three days away from their official worldwide launch now, but so many individuals interested in the devices want to know what it’ll cost to pay for the device outright or sign a two-year agreement. South African carrier Vodacom is back to provide its own pricing scheme for the two devices.

The entry-level model, the 32GB Galaxy S6, will cost R12,399 ($199 USD) for South African customers, but you can get the device on a monthly payment plan for R529 ($8.49) if you take advantage of Vodacom’s Smart S plan which provides 75 minutes, 200 text messages, and 200MB of monthly data for R199 monthly ($3.19 USD).

The 64GB Galaxy S6 edge will retail for R16,149 ($259.28 USD) or R679 per month ($10.90 USD) with Vodacom’s Smart S plan.

Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will come in Black Sapphire, White Pearl, and Gold Platinum versions. There is no word on whether or not you can expect the Emerald Green Galaxy S6 edge.

Vodacom has stated that it will provide a free wireless charger and cover (worth R1,100) for both the S6 and S6 edge when the devices go on sale in the region on April 10th.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are Korean manufacturer Samsung’s latest mobile devices that provide a 5.1-inch, Super AMOLED display with a 2,560 x 1,440p resolution (higher than 1080p), a 5MP front camera and 16MP back camera, both with f/1.9 apertures, the company’s own homegrown octa-core, Exynos 7420 processor that is on a planet of its own, with a 2,550mAh battery that should provide around 13-15 hours of normal use. We’ve received word that light usage should get users 3 days, although the nearly 3.7 million pixels in the display alone will be enough to drain your battery.

Samsung expects to beat first quarter operating profit predictions

Samsung’s financials aren’t going to rise back to its glory days anytime soon, but the company seems to have high hopes of turning things around a bit in the first quarter this year. The Korean manufacturer has announced that it expects to beat analyst predictions for the operating profit in Q1 this year – Samsung expects to post an operating profit of $5.43 billion USD, which is slightly higher than the $4.88 billion USD predicted by analysts.

For the total revenue, Samsung expects to bring in $43.25 billion, though this figure is lower than the $45.83 billion that was earlier predicted. Both the operating profit and revenue are also considerably less than the same period last year – Q1 2014 saw the company generate $7.82 billion in operating profit and $49.42 billion in revenue. However, with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge just around the corner (the two devices go on sale on April 10 in 20 countries), there’s a high chance the company will do better than anyone might have expected it to do even last month.
