Samsung, KT announce 5G GiGA LTE, available for S6 and S6 edge today

You may think that your Galaxy S6 and S6 edge Download Booster is fast, and that 4G LTE is as advanced as it gets, but your better buckle your proverbial seat belt: It turns out that Samsung, the first smartphone manufacturer to produce a device on the LTE-Advanced (or LTE-A) network, the Galaxy S4 LTE-A, is revolutionizing wireless technology once again by bringing 5G GiGA LTE technology to the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, and future devices, reports The Korea Herald. The Korean manufacturer has partnered with carrier KT over the last nine months to inaugurate the new technology in its native country.

What is GiGA LTE? GiGA LTE, or 5G as some call it, is made possible by taking your fast, Long-Term Evolution (or LTE) networks and making them possible via Wi-Fi connectivity. Wi-Fi speeds are about to take a turn for the better. How much better, though? According to the report, the new GiGA LTE network will have a maximum download speed of 1.17Gbps – that’s right, “Gigabits per second –, a speed four times faster than tri-band LTE A networks, and upload speeds ten times faster than tri-band broadband LTE-A networks.

GiGA LTE (or 5G) will not become mainstream until about 2020, but that won’t stop Samsung’s latest devices from experiencing cutting-edge tech now. For Samsung’s latest device owners of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, GiGA LTE will become available to use today with a new firmware update that should be rolling out to devices even as you read this. Of course, the new GiGA LTE will become part of all Samsung’s high-end devices and a portion of the company’s mid-end devices in later 2015. LG Electronics will also release new devices this year incorporating 5G wireless capabilities.

KT will be the first Korean wireless carrier to deploy the technology for its customer base, but SK Telecom and LG Uplus have voiced approval for 5G wireless as well, so customers at those carriers should also see 5G wireless technology implemented in their phones soon.

Galaxy A8 pictures leaked

We reported back in March that Samsung had filed for trademarks on the Galaxy A6, Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A9, reiterating our belief that the company is going to take its Galaxy A series forward with new models. We later reportedly exclusively on the specifications of the Galaxy A8 (SM-A800F) which was initially believed to be a China-only handset but is now expected to be launched in various markets across Europe and Asia. Today the very first pictures of the Galaxy A8 have been leaked online showing us that this handset may have the same metal frame as the Galaxy S6, which makes the upcoming addition to the Galaxy A lineup look like a completely different device.

Specifications accompany the pictures, the Galaxy A8 is said to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage with microSD card slot, a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED 1920×1020 pixel resolution display, 16-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera, fingerprint reader in the home button, 4G LTE support and a 3,050mAh battery. It will run Android 5.1.1 straight out of the box.

No information about pricing and availability has come up until now and Samsung has not yet revealed when it plans on launching the Galaxy A8 which is certainly shaping up to be its most feature-packed mid-range smartphone to date.

Some quick toggles automatically disappearing from the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge

Many who own the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy S6 edge have taken to social media to voice their displeasure over the disappearance of some quick toggles from their devices. Multiple reports suggest that a large number of Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners are missing either one or all of the toggles that trigger mobile data, hotspot and private mode. No one really knows why this is happening, the handsets shipped with these toggles and seeing as how they correspond to some very important functions it wouldn’t make any sense for Samsung to remove them altogether.

There’s no official fix for this just yet though reports claim that Samsung has acknowledged this issue through customer support, some of the company’s regional Twitter accounts have acknowledged it as well. At least one regional account offered a temporary solution which involves backing up important data and performing a factory reset on the device. While it brings back the toggles, it doesn’t reduce the possibility that those toggles simply won’t disappear again, and it will prove to be a nuisance for users if they have to perform a factory reset every single time that this happens.

Some XDA forum members believe that this is happening due to a software feature that’s gone rogue, so to speak, that it’s automatically removing toggles that users haven’t used in over 30 days. That doesn’t seem to be true though since many of the people lamenting the loss of these toggles are the people who heavily rely on them during daily use. Samsung is yet to provide a fix for this issue, or an explanation for that matter, we’ll keep our eyes and ears open for more information.

Latest Galaxy S6 promo is all about mobile gaming

Samsung is releasing a promo for the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge almost every other week, often it highlights many of the features that the devices offer though that doesn’t mean it’s giving up on iPhone bashing altogether, that has factored into Galaxy S6 promos as well. The marketing push for Samsung’s flagship smartphones continues with a new promo that was put up on the Samsung Mobile YouTube channel, this one is all about high-definition mobile gaming.

You might be well aware by now that the Galaxy S6′s hardware package enables it to provide a stellar mobile gaming experience, not to mention the unique viewing experience that you get if you’ve picked up the Galaxy S6 edge, the 5.1-inch Quad HD 2560×1440 pixel resolution display is certainly something to write home about. Realistically though, mobile gaming is the battery’s enemy and since the Galaxy S6 doesn’t have a removable battery you might want to be close to a charger if you’re already low on charge before kicking off the gaming session. The fixed onboard storage might prove to be a hindrance as well if you’re someone who likes to install a lot of storage intensive games on the device, but that in no way diminishes the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge’s ability to provide an amazing high-definition mobile gaming experience.

Samsung teams up with GQ and Vogue to create fashion campaign featuring Galaxy S6 and S6 edge

Samsung has been on a marketing blitz for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge, from the looks of things the company doesn’t mean to stop any time soon. From outlining the handsets’ features to outright bashing the iPhone for not being up to the mark, Samsung has used multiple methods to market its latest creations. The company has now teamed up with popular fashion publications Vogue and GQ to create global fashion native campaigns featuring the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge.

Vogue and GQ are among the most popular fashion magazines on the planet so it makes sense for Samsung to go with them for this particular campaign, millions of people around the world solely rely on these publications for their fashion fix. With technology increasingly being positioned as fashionable accessories it’s no surprise that Samsung has taken this route to further promote the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. Images from the campaign show models posing alongside the devices as well as shots of the Galaxy S6 edge placed close to other luxury accessories such as branded shades and luxury watches.

Samsung SM-G150N shows up, could be the Galaxy Young 3

A new Samsung handset, carrying model number SM-G150N, seems to be nearing an official release. The SM-G150N has recently been certified by the Bluetooth SIG, listed in the IMEI database, and been sent to India for testing. No name is attached to the device at the moment, but it could be the Galaxy Young 3 as the Galaxy Young 2 – launched last year – had the model number SM-G130.

On the import tacker website Zauba, the SM-G150N is listed with varying pricing (starting from $99), suggesting that development on the device is at a stage where different models are being tested. A 3.8-inch screen should be part of the spec sheet according to the import database (the final screen size could change to a more standard 4-inch or 3.5-inch), though other hardware details are pretty much non-existent at this point. The device might not be called the Galaxy Young 3 when it is released, but we can be sure that it will feature some extremely low-end specs.

Samsung Galaxy Tab E, an affordable 9.6-inch tablet, is now official

Samsung’s newest affordable tablet, the Galaxy Tab E, is now official. The company trademarked this device earlier this year, and its press renders was leaked last week. Now that the device is officially introduced, at least in Taiwan for the time being, let’s have a look at its specifications and features.

The Galaxy Tab E (SM-T560) features a 9.6-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels and runs Android 4.4 KitKat instead of Lollipop. All the processing heavy lifting is carried out by 1.3GHz quad-core processor (possibly a Spreadtrum SC7730SE). There’s 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, along with a microSD card slot. Power is supplied by a non-removable 5,000 mAh battery. It’s a Wi-Fi only device, but Samsung will most probably launch another variant (SM-T561) with cellular connectivity in the near future.

It is currently priced at $225 in Taiwan, and will hit the retail shelves by the end of this month. There is no information regarding its launch plans or availability outside of Taiwan, but as soon as there’s something new, we will let you know about it.
