How to buy paid Galaxy Themes from Samsung’s Theme Store even if they aren’t available in your country

Samsung started offering an option to install third-party themes for its recently released smartphones. A theme has an ability to customize wallpapers, backgrounds, icons, ringtones, and many other parts of the UI, which completely transforms the look and feel of the UI. There are plenty of gorgeous themes in the Theme Store. Some of them are free while others are paid.

Free themes are available worldwide, but the company is currently offering paid themes only in five countries: China, Japan, India, Korea, and the US. Many of you who live outside these countries have been wanting to download paid themes that are showcased in our Themes Thursday section every week. Now, there’s a way everyone can download paid Galaxy Themes from the Theme Store.

Before you go ahead with the procedure, you need to have an active PayPal account so that you can pay for premium themes.

Step 1: Download and install a VPN app.

A VPN connection hides your real physical location and lets you browse the Theme Store from a country where paid themes are available. You can download and install any VPN app that lets you channel your Internet through a location in the US. TunnelBear is our favorite VPN app for Android, and it provides 500MB of free data every month.

Step 2: Remove the SIM card and restart your compatible Galaxy smartphone.

Step 3: Open the VPN app and create an account or sign-in to an existing account.

Step 4: Choose United States and wait till the location change is completed

Step 5: Clear Themes and Theme Store data and cache

You need to clear data and cache from two apps: Themes and Theme Store. You can find these apps from Settings > Applications > Application Manager > More > Show System Apps. Select each app and clear their app data and cache from its storage menu.

Step 6: Open the Theme Store to find paid themes via PayPal

After opening the Theme Store, you can find paid themes. When you click to purchase any free theme, you can see a pop-up menu that gives you an option to pay using a PayPal account.

Step 7: Disconnect the VPN and re-insert the SIM card.

After installing required paid themes, you can disconnect the VPN and re-insert the SIM card. It’s also better to clear data and cache from the Galaxy App, Theme Store, Google Play, and Google Play Services.

Note: If you want to update themes (yes, themes get updates too!), you will have to go through the entire process once again.

New images reveal USB Type-C port on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7

The upcoming Galaxy Note 7 was leaked in all three color variants earlier this morning, also confirming a curved display and an iris scanner. We exclusively reported that the Galaxy Note 7 would feature a USB Type-C port two months ago. Now, a new image from accessory maker Olixar has confirmed the presence of USB Type-C port.

The image of a tempered glass screen protector meant for the Galaxy Note 7 reveals the USB Type-C port on the bottom along with a bottom-firing loudspeaker, an S-Pen slot, and a headphone jack. The screen protector from Olixar also has openings for the front-facing camera, iris scanner, an ambient light sensor, and the earpiece.

Samsung might announce a new version of the Gear VR virtual-reality headset that would work with the Galaxy Note 7′s USB Type-C port. We expect both the devices to be unveiled by Samsung on August 2 at an event in New York.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 revealed in three color variants with iris scanner and curved display

Samsung is yet to announce its next Galaxy Note smartphone, but almost all the information about the device has leaked already. Now, the design of the Galaxy Note 7 has leaked in a fresh set of press renders.

Serial smartphone leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) has tweeted an image that shows the Galaxy Note 7 in all its color variants – Black Onyx, Blue Coral, and Silver Titanium – along with the presence of what looks like an iris scanner and a curved display. The image also pretty much confirms that the next Galaxy Note would be named Galaxy Note 7.

The design of the Galaxy Note 7 looks quite similar to that of the Galaxy S7 edge with curves on the front as well as the back. You can also see three new S Pen-inspired wallpapers in the press render. Samsung is expected to announce the device on August 2, which is when we can expect to receive information about its price and availability.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition will be launched on July 7

We exclusively reported three months ago that Samsung was working on the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition, it’s a limited edition variant of the Galaxy S7 that Samsung is creating to commemorate the upcoming Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. A press render of this handset was leaked online just last week and now it appears that we’re only a few days away from the official announcement.

A teaser has been posted on the official Samsung Mobile Deutschland Facebook page which tells us to “Ge7 Ready” for a new unpacking and directs us to an offer for the Olympics on Samsung’s website. All of this suggests that the company is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition on July 7. It’s unclear in which markets this limited edition handset will be released and how much it will cost. Samsung is a major sponsor of the Olympics so its customers get the exclusive privilege of watching the Rio 2016 Olympics in virtual reality. The 2016 Summer Olympics are taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with the opening ceremony taking place on August 5.

Samsung is offering 10 percent cashback on its high-end smartphones in India

As a part of its ‘Special Affordability Offers’ program, Samsung is offering a 10 percent cashback on most of its high-end smartphones in India, including the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5 (single-SIM and dual-SIM variants), and Galaxy S6. Buyers in the country can avail cashback when they make a purchase through a debit card or a credit card. The cashback scheme is not valid on Citibank and AMEX cards, though.

Samsung is also offering 3/6/9/12-month EMIs on its high-end smartphones at no extra cost when purchased using debit or credit cards. Buyers who don’t have a debit or credit card can avail a 10-month EMI through Bajaj Finance and Capital Finance. High-end Samsung mobile prices have dropped quite a bit in India since their release.

Samsung’s consumer electronics division might post healthy profit but components business may see loss in Q2

Market analysts are of the view that Samsung’s consumer electronics business is going to post robust operating profit of 1 trillion won ($870 million) in the second quarter of this year. This is going to be the first time since 2009 that the company’s consumer electronics division will see its operating income cross 1 trillion won. Analysts also expect the business to demonstrate strong performance in the second half of this year due to the weak Korean won that’s a result of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union, commonly known as Brexit. It’s said that the profits have been driven up by Samsung’s high-end TVs, connected home appliances, and air conditioners.

Things may not be this good for Samsung’s components business. Analysts forecast that the company’s component division, including Samsung SDI and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, will post disappointing earnings in Q2 2016. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is expected to post 21.7 billion won ($18.9 million) in operating income which will be a 49.4 percent decline from the previous quarter with total revenue coming in at 1.6 trillion won. Samsung SDI – the conglomerate’s battery-making arm – had a lot of red on its balance sheet in the first quarter of this year with a 704 billion won operating loss. Analysts expect that Samsung SDI is going to post another operating loss in Q2 2016 with some suggesting that it could be as high as 38.2 billion won.
