Bear in mind that this headset won’t work with the Galaxy Note 7 since the latest flagship features a USB Type-C port. However, it will work nicely with the Galaxy S7 series, the Galaxy S6 series and the Galaxy Note 5. This deal is available for today only and through Amazon so it will be in your best interest to not waste any time in picking one up. Chances are the online retailer is going to sell out of these discounted units by the end of the day. If you’d rather have the latest Gear VR headset that comes with slight improvements, Amazon is selling that too albeit at full price.

Galaxy Note 7 shipments have been delayed for quality testing

Samsung has confirmed today that the Galaxy Note 7 shipments have been delayed as it’s conducting further quality testing on its new flagship smartphone. The company said in a statement that “Shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 are being delayed due to additional tests being conducted for product quality.” It did not provide any details on the tests being conducted and the markets that will be affected by this delay.

There have been some reports recently of the Galaxy Note 7 exploding while it was being charged, the reports primarily came from South Korea and some other markets. Samsung has not confirmed whether this is the cause of the shipment delay and subsequent additional testing. There have also been reports of some Galaxy Note 7 units crashing and getting stuck in boot loops for no apparent reason. If the quality control problems are confirmed and Samsung has to take steps to rectify them it will deal a significant blow to the company as it’s counting on the Galaxy Note 7′s sales to continue the stellar performance of its mobile business in the second quarter aided by the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. There are pre-order customers in several markets who are still waiting to receive their units and delayed shipments will have a direct impact on sales.

Galaxy Tab A 2016 with S Pen pictures leaked

Samsung launched the latest tablet in its Galaxy Tab A (2016) series about four months ago. The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is a mid-range tablet that’s available in both Wi-Fi only and cellular models. Just last week we reported that Samsung has a new variant of this tablet in the pipeline that features the new S Pen which was introduced with the Galaxy Note 7. We have now obtained some images of the Galaxy Tab A 2016 with S Pen that shows off the tablet in all its glory.

Samsung doesn’t seem to have made any major changes to the specifications of this tablet so expect the same 1.6GHz octa-core Exynos 7870 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. The original Galaxy Tab A 10.1 also features an 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front camera as well as a 7,300mAh battery.

What we can tell you is that the Galaxy Tab A 2016 with S Pen has the same stylus as the Galaxy Note 7 so it features the same Air Command menu and S Pen features as the new flagship smartphone, features like the ability to translate a word by simply hovering the stylus above it. Screen off memo is present as well and so is the new Samsung Notes app that arrived with the Galaxy Note 7 and will soon be released for older Note handsets. Expect Samsung to officially announce this tablet in the near future.

Samsung answers some of the most popular Samsung Pay questions in new interview

As I’m sure you’re aware, last week Samsung Pay celebrated its one-year anniversary. To honor this achievement, Samsung published an infographic consisting of some of the platform’s usage statistics. From this, we learned that the service has been used to process nearly 100 million unique transactions and store over 4 million registered membership cards.

Gear VR users will soon be able to fight Minecraft bosses in virtual reality

Minecraft for Gear VR was released a few months ago even before the game received support for the Oculus VR headset and now developer Mojang has confirmed that it’s going to get the much awaited “bosses update.” Minecraft is best known for enabling players to build whatever they want out of blocks but it also has a Survival Mode that makes things very interesting once the sun goes down or players find themselves in a dark corner. Mojang has confirmed that Survival Mode is getting support for the Gear VR meaning players will be able to have boss fights in virtual reality.

Aside from bosses, the latest Minecraft update also adds ocean monuments, blocks and beacons. The Wither, Ender dragon and Elder Guardian are the three original Minecraft bosses and The Wither and Elder Guardian are making their way to Gear VR. Mojang hasn’t confirmed when this update is going to be out for the Gear VR edition of Minecraft. It says that we should expect this free update to drop “soon-ish.”

European content providers will soon bring HDR content to Samsung TVs

Samsung is improving the premium TV viewing experience for its customers by expanding its partnerships with new and existing Ultra High Definition (UHD) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) content providers in Europe. The company’s 2016 UHD and SUHD TVs already support UHD and HDR content streaming from major providers like Netflix and Amazon, they will soon get HDR content from local providers in Europe as well.

“With fresh UHD and HDR content debuting soon in the European market in the coming months, we are excited to offer consumers more of their favorite television shows and movies in the best picture quality,” said WonJin LEE, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung has also expanded partnerships with Amazon and Netflix to bring more HDR content to subscribers in Europe. Amazon was the first provider to launch HDR with Samsung TVs and the partnership carried over to the Galaxy Note 7 as well. Netflix now offers some of its best titles in HDR. Both providers are on track to offer more than 300 hours of HDR programming combined through their apps.

Some European content providers will also offer HDR programming aside from dedicated UHD channels and content. Arte and Sky will be launching UHD services for Europe this year while Insight TV and RTVE will be launching new HDR and UHD services. Samsung’s existing partners CHILI, Infinity and Videoland will expand their UHD services to add HDR by early 2017.

Samsung is building a new battery factory in Hungary

Samsung’s battery-making arm Samsung SDI has confirmed that it’s going to set up a new battery factory in Hungary. It’s going to invest $358 million in the factory so that it can supply the auto industry in Europe with lithium ion batteries. With car manufacturers gradually shifting towards hybrid and full electric powertrains the future looks bright particularly for battery manufacturers like Samsung SDI.

Samsung SDI already operates battery manufacturing plants in China and South Korea. Its European plant is scheduled to open in the second half of 2018 near Budapest and will have the capacity to produce batteries for 50,000 cars per year. The company’s clients include BMW which uses a Samsung battery in its BMW i3 electric vehicle. Samsung SDI says that this new factory in Europe is going to help the company cut down on logistics costs and quickly keep up with demand from European companies as most of them have manufacturing bases around Hungary.

This can be seen as yet another move by Samsung to establish its footing in the car market. Samsung has been taking a lot of steps since earlier this year for precisely this purpose and it’s now expected to spend as much as $3 billion to acquire Fiat Chrysler’s auto parts subsidiary Magneti Marelli.
