Leaked images show it will be easy to spot a refurbished Galaxy Note 7

Samsung confirmed a few months back that it’s going to release a refurbished variant of the Galaxy Note 7 in select markets across the globe. It’s going to be the same handset that was recalled but with a smaller battery.

Samsung is yet to confirm what it’s going to call the device and how much it’s going to cost. Reports suggest that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 may be called the Galaxy Note FE or “Fan Edition.” Again, no confirmation from Samsung about this as yet.

If the latest leaked images are believed, it may be very easy to differentiate a refurbished unit from an original Galaxy Note 7 unit. The Galaxy Note FE may have a big “R” symbol at the back on the bottom to denote that it’s a refurbished unit.

It will enable people to ascertain at a glance whether or not it’s a genuinely refurbished unit. This is something we’ve seen in a previous leak as well so the likelihood of this happening is increasing.

Samsung is yet to confirm when we can expect the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 to come out, the markets in which it’s going to be released and how much it’s going to charge for this handset.

Global Payments announces full support for Samsung Pay in the UK

Samsung Pay was launched in the UK a couple of weeks ago, and it is currently compatible with credit and debit cards from MBNA, Nationwide Building Society, and Santander. Global Payments, a leading worldwide provider of various Point of Sale terminal solutions, has now announced that its fully supports Samsung Pay in the UK. All the merchants in the UK who use Global Payments’ PoS terminals will be able to accept payments using Samsung.

Samsung’s new SoundAssistant app lets you personalize sound settings on Galaxy devices

Samsung has released the new SoundAssistant app that provides various audio-related features for Galaxy devices. The app allows you to control the media volume instead of ringtone when you press volume keys, and some people might find it quite useful. It can also be used to set separate volume levels for apps and games.

The SoundAssistant app also offers 150 steps of fine volume adjustment. It also supports a floating equalizer, left/right volume balance for connected headphones, and mono audio. Users can create and activate sound settings based on their personal preferences. If you’re a Galaxy S8 or S8+ user, you can use it to set different audio output path for apps (such as Bluetooth speaker for music app and the phone’s loudspeaker for a game).

It also has a feature called Scenarios, which you can use to set volume levels and vibration mode for specific days and time durations. You can download the SoundAssistant app’s APK from the source link below and install it on your Galaxy device. It is also available on the Google Play Store.

Samsung SDI showcases new household energy storage systems for the European market

Samsung SDI, Samsung’s storage battery manufacturing unit, recently showcased its energy storage system (ESS) products for industrial use at the Energy Storage Europe 2017 expo. The company will now showcase household ESS products at the Intersolar Europe 2017 tradeshow in Munich on May 31. Its production will start in the second half of 2017, followed by a commercial launch next year.

The company, which usually supplies batteries for smartphones and electric vehicles, is targeting the European household market with its new products. Its new high-capacity, high-energy ESS solutions can be used to collect energy generated by solar panels. Samsung SDI’s new solutions offer 4.8kWh/module, and up to 39 modules can grouped together for one unit, offering a maximum capacity of 188kWh.

Samsung says that an average European home consumers around 10kWh per day. So, the company’s new ESS solution can theoretically power up to 19 homes in a day. Samsung supplies these modules to end product ESS makers who then fit them into neat cases and sell them as finished products. The South Korean battery firm’s modules are claimed to be highly scalable, catering to diverse client needs.

Samsung SDI currently holds around 30 percent share of the household ESS market. The company has been holding the number one position in Japan since 2013, following the Fukushima nuclear disaster. It also supplies modules to Tesla, which is planning to build Gigafactories.

Samsung launches the Galaxy J3 Pro in India with Android 5.1 Lollipop

Samsung had announced the entry-level smartphone Galaxy J3 Pro (SM-J320F) for the Indian market two months ago, but the phone is available for purchase starting today. The Galaxy J3 Pro is priced at INR 7,990 (approximately $124) in the country, and is available for purchase from Flipkart as well as Samsung’s official online store. It is available in Black, Gold, and White.

The Galaxy J3 Pro features a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel primary camera with HD video recording, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera with F2.2 aperture. The phone is equipped with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor from Spreadtrum, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot (supports up to 128GB cards). The phone also features the S Bike and Ultra Data Saving modes.

It’s a dual-SIM smartphone with LTE connectivity (with VoLTE), Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, GPS (with GLONASS), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, microUSB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It packs a 2600 mAh battery and comes with three-year-old Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. It even lacks a fingerprint sensor, something that is offered by most devices in its price range, making it a deal breaker for consumers.

The Galaxy J3 Pro was launched in China last year, and we don’t know why it took Samsung so much time to launch it in India.

Samsung heads to Cuba, opens brand shop in Havana

Cuba, best known for the 1950s-era cars that line the streets of Havana and its legendary cigars, hasn’t really evolved as a lucrative market for consumer electronics. The country itself has to progress considerably before most of its citizens are able to spend a good amount of money on consumer electronic devices.

The market is opening up, albeit gradually. New business opportunities have came up following the thaw in the country’s relations with the United States a couple of years ago. Others who kept themselves out of this market have started to take notice as well.

Samsung announced today that it has opened a brand shop in Havana, Cuba’s capital. It’s a very rare move by Samsung as it’s making a full-fledged entry into the market. Samsung has opened its brand shop in Havana in cooperation with a local retailer Cadena De Tiendas TRD Caribe.

TRD is a major retailer in Cuba. It accounts for over 50 percent of the sales in Cuba’s electronics market, so Samsung has a good partner in TRD.

Premium Samsung products like TVs, refrigerators and smartphones will be displayed at the brand show. It hopes that this brand store will help improve the company’s brand reputation in the region.
